My mom moved into BeeHive Homes of Amarillo. We have dealt with them since about the first part of March, and they are doing great. They have been very, very compassionate and caring with helping her get adjusted. They met every need that we had and every concern, including everyone from the administration, nurses' aides, and the kitchen help. They have taken good care of her. The food is just different than home food, and she is having to adjust. It would be like going from home cooked food when you're a college student to learning to eat cafeteria food. It's been fine. From what I've seen, the food looks appetizing and well-balanced. They are serving a nutritionally sound diet. It has just been an adjustment. They just renovated it, so it's clean. It never smells. It's a lovely facility.

I toured BeeHive Homes of Amarillo. It's not a big facility. The unit was a nice, good-sized room with a little kitchen area with no stove and a nice bathroom. It was very stylish and fresh. When you come in the door, you come into a big open room that has a sitting area to the left with the offices of the employees around there. Then to the right was a big open kitchen that had a half wall around it, and it was all open, and the people that were cooking for them were in there. It was a big kitchen. To the right of the kitchen was a big dining area with tables that looked like what you have in your home. My daughter and I were looking for my husband, and we were concerned that for a memory care person that needed what he needed, he would call for a lot of help, and we didn't think there were enough on-hand employees there to attend him. We just thought that he would drive them crazy. We just thought for a memory care patient, the attending staff at night, especially that it would be hard on them and hard for him. What we saw when we were there, we did not think was enough for his memory care needs. I like the staff though. One gentleman tried his best to give me a discount on the price of the room. He tried to help me out financially. They came down a little bit, but they couldn't come down enough for me. But they tried.

I did a tour of BeeHive Homes of Amarillo. It was adequate, but I'm not overly impressed. It felt like a place to live out the rest of your life. It looked like it was run on a shoestring budget. The staff were good; it was multitasking. It seemed like they had a smaller staff, and they had more things that were required. There was very little activity. There's not a lot of life going on there, there was very little living. You didn't feel like taking your loved one there or someone that you care about. The staff was trying. They had more required out of them because of the smaller staff, and more expected out of them. It was very dirty walking in there. They're serving a niche, but not the higher-end niche. They're serving kind of the lower standard to a lower price point. Pricing wise they were comparable; they were within $500, but the rooms were not the same thing. A lot of it had to do with the fact that it was a small staff. The only person I saw never moved the whole time they were in a chair. I'm thinking somebody needs to check on them. The other places were feeling a little more upscale, you feel like you could live in them. In this one, you did not feel it, you feel like you're going there to die. That's the best way I can put it.

BeeHive Homes of Amarillo was very nice and clean. The staff was very helpful as far as explaining what they do. They have movie nights and a place they could step outside doing barbecue. The meals are included, and it was more of a home environment. The staff was very nice and welcoming.
