My mom has moved into Diversicare of Smyrna. I've had good luck with them. They've been very responsive to all of my questions and suggestions. Everything's well maintained. The staff is excellent. They can improve probably on their resident programs. It's laid out well. There are rehab centers on both ends, close to the residents, and the dining room is in the middle of the community.

I once had a high opinion of this facility. I still do compare to a lot of others because they do keep the residents clean and fed. But I became disappointed in them when they let my mother fall leading to her further decline. Although it's been two years since my mother's death I would probably recommend it if there were more staffs on hand.

Mayfield Rehabilitation Center was very nice. We went on a Sunday, so it was really hard to meet everybody, but they would not take my brother. He has dialysis 3 times a week, and they don’t have the staff that would do transportation. He also has wounds really bad, so they said that they don’t have the staff to take care of him. The location was good. The facility was very good. I like it. It was nice. It was a nice center, and everybody was nice and clean. We were only there for maybe 45 minutes on a Sunday. Once we found out that they’re not going to be able to take care of him, we didn’t pursue it any further.

My wife is in Diversicare of Smyrna. They’re doing a good job. When she first went in, she was sharing a room with three others, but since her Alzheimer's got worse, they moved her into an area where patients can't get out or stroll, which is good because they can't get out. They take care of her really well and watch her closely. My wife says she's full all of the time.

My mother was in Mayfield for five days before I removed her and she had to go to the hospital. She was not given a bath, her false teeth were not removed at night. She was left in her same cloths when put in bed. But what really hurt was at ninety she received a head concision multiple bruises and was never given medical treatment until I removed her and took her to a emergency room for treatment.

My parent is in a nursing facility called Mayfield Rehab. It is very nice and clean. The people are very friendly. The rooms are nice. My parent is in a locked facility because he has Alzheimer's, so it is not just a nursing home. With regards to activities, they have several activities for all of them, even for Alzheimer's patients. The staff is great. My overall experience with this place is great. It is a good place.

My Mother was sent to Mayfield for comfort care in September 2011. I spent from 2 pm until 6 am with her for 10 days. I was astounded by the degree of care she received. Everything that could be done was done to make her final days as comfortable as possible both physically and mentally...even removing her chin hair when she fretted about it! Since Mama's death I have continued to visit (three or four times a week) with friends I made. There are lots of activities for those able to participate; birthdays are celebrated. The staff, both nursing and administrative, are caring, concerned and involved. The administrator sets an example to the rest of the staff by having an open-door policy for residents and family members. Before my interaction with Mayfield, I had a somewhat negative view of such facilities. Unfortunately, that view was based on what I thought and not what I knew. My Mother's experience during her final days and my experience as a "drop-in" visitor have changed my opinion. And if I ever need such care, Mayfield will be my first choice.
