My husband is currently at the memory care section of Alexander Guest House. It's very attractive, comfortable, and homey. The staff is helpful and friendly. If you have any concern, they address it immediately. He's very happy with the food. He likes it and it's good. We chose this place for him because it was only five minutes from where I live, it's a good value, and they had an empty room for us.

At Alexander Guest House, the memory care was segregated from the rest of the place. The outside architecture was quite nice except the memory care part was more like a simple concrete box. The rooms were decent in both assisted living and memory care. It's an older facility. The building dates from World War II. I grew up in Oak Ridge, and sometimes we'd go dine there. It was a very nice restaurant at one time. It's on the National Register of Historic Places. It had kind of a nice homey atmosphere. I like its location close to Jackson Square. It's within walking distance. I liked it. It costs about as much as the ones in Knoxville that I visited. It might be at least $500 less a month. The staff during the tour was pleasant and competent. I'm thinking I might try the respite care there. They welcomed my wife and me to come and have a meal with them to check that out. It seemed quite clean. I liked the part of the building that the assisted living is in, its classic architecture of that time and place. The memory care and assisted living were both clean and the rooms were adequate, if not more than adequate. The memory care was limited compared to the assisted living.

My mother-in-law has been in Alexander Guest House for almost five years now. When we first went in, the management was wonderful and they had health care round the clock. It was a well-run situation. The manager then moved up into the company, and the current manager who took over afterward is petty, very arrogant, and won't listen. They are cost-cutting to the point that the food is minimal at best. We're not happy with them. After 10:00, there is no nurse or medical staff on the site. It's just kind of sad when we need them at night. Their option is to go to the hospital, and that's not always an appropriate option. The current manager doesn't do any continual housekeeping to be able to take care of issues. The air conditioners are not always working appropriately. They've had to put in window units. The heat is intermittent. The help staff are generally good, except they don't stay a few months because they get so frustrated trying to deal with the current manager so they leave. Their turnover is excessive, so it's just really a difficult situation. There's little relationship that is able to be developed with the residents because they don't stay. They have a new lady who has come in for activities though and she seems to be somewhat better and offering things that are more appropriate for the residents' age.

Alexander Guest House is a much more home-like atmosphere. You don't feel like you're in a facility because of the way they have everything laid out. It is a facility that came from remodeling, it's a historical hotel but they have done an excellent job of putting everything in place and having made it seem more like a house. There were several areas where you're feeling more like you're at home, so I like their common areas. I like the fact that their memory care facility is on the first floor. And I like that the rooms that I looked at, all of them had a large window that looked out onto a courtyard, and the area was very pleasant to look out to. They had a private dining room area where residents can have their families, like if they just want to have dinner. It's very appealing to me. They have amenities, they provide transportation, they provide subscription management to a local pharmacy. So we would have to get the coordination between my husband's Medicare Advantage Plan and that. I didn't try the food but the menus looked good. The rooms for this facility were much smaller, although they were also suite-like. They have the bathrooms and the rooms. I like that they provide the furniture if you don't want to bring furniture. They'd provide the bed, a dresser, a nightstand, and a lamp, then you can add what you want to bring for your family member. That's a plus as far as I was concerned.

Although The Guest House at Alexander Inn was an older building, it has been renovated. It was an old hotel, but they redid all the rooms and they did a beautiful job. The place was welcoming and very friendly. I also felt that the residents were happy there. The staff was very friendly, very cooperative, answered all my questions, and I was very pleased with the person that assisted me.

I was very impressed with The Guest House at Alexander Inn. It’s very clean, but it’s a smaller facility. They did have a separate bedroom and a sitting area, but the rooms were small, and also there was no independent-living there, so if my mother was to get a lot better with her physical therapy, there wouldn’t be any area to move up to. The atmosphere was very nice. It was a historic place before, and they restored it so it’s very nice.

Alexander Guest Home is really good and probably my first choice. It's a historic building that was redone and had a lot of meaning to the community. The rooms were very adequate, and the patients' rooms were very nice. The dining room was every nice and looked like an old-fashioned dining room.

I visited The Alexander Inn a couple months ago, and it was great. The staff was very nice, very helpul, and answered all of our questions. The place had an excellent location. The rooms were perfect, just the right size, really clean, and new. It seemed like they had everything we needed in the room. I just wish they had a pool for water activities.

Everyone at Alexander Guest House (The Guest House at Alexander Inn) was so gracious. I would have moved into this place myself. I brought my girlfriend, and we were in awe. We were just so excited and impressed. The manager was so gracious and welcoming and showed us the best of the best. It did not have independent living, though.
