If you are looking for a community for a Disabled Veteran, American House in Johnson City, TN is the place for you. I couldn't have asked for kinder people to care for my brother, from administration to middle management to care providers to the facilities and operations management, I can only say good things about this facility. When my brother left American House after placement in a Tennessee State Veterans home, I was floored by the exaggerated and blatant contrast in quality of care. You would think the care would be better for a disabled veteran, but not so. American House's nurse administration, Vanessa, personally worked with the VA to ensure her care reflected the directives of the VA, yet when she knew something should be changed, such as his meds, she contacted them personally and directly, then kept us, the family, informed when the VA did not. Having been in hospital leadership for years, I'm not easy to please but the professionalism, kindness and compassion of this team, even from the BOM's, Annamarie, involvement in ensuring patient quality of care is beyond impressive.

I toured American House Johnson City. They do things with them. They have bingo and they watch TV on certain nights. They've got a courtyard where they can go out and sit. The facility was nice. They've got a beauty shop and stuff. They've got different areas that they do different things in. It depends on the patient. They had services to go to the doctor from there. The staff had a great personality. She's very caring. The food looks good because they have chefs come in and make it. They're good all the way round.

We toured American House Johnson City. When we walked in, it looked clean and felt comfortable like you'd walk in your own house and everything. The room they showed wouldn't have room for a refrigerator. They might have a larger room apartment later on that we could move into. She said people who were already there have the first choice if a larger apartment comes open. The person who gave the tour was super. She showed us the menu and they have three meals a day. I understand it's an older building that has been remodeled. I thought it was almost a brand-new building, but it looks super nice. Right in front of the entrance, they had people that could sit there and they had an enclosed courtyard.

We went to American House Johnson City for a tour. I like it. It was very nice, cozy and friendly. The lady who explained everything to us, Sabrina, was very friendly and very helpful. The halls were nice and clean. The room that she showed us was beautiful. But it was one room with a bathroom. If I was going to go to one, I would want a one-bedroom, but she didn't have a one-bedroom to show us. But I would highly recommend it. The dining room looked good, the food smelled good, and they looked like they had a good menu. They have two different entrees, where you could pick whichever one you wanted, so that was a plus. It sounded like they take care of you really good. The common areas were very nice. The staff showed me the screened-in little porch that they had. The only negative I had about them was cigarette smoke. I cannot stand cigarette smoke, and as soon as you walk through the door, you smell it. Nevertheless, everything was very nice.

I toured American House Johnson City. The person who gave the tour was very nice. She was young and full of energy and very knowledgeable about what you may be asking questions about. It was kind of like in assisted living. They were going to help me with changing my clothing and my shower. Again, there are a lot of options. There was a big dayroom with a lot of people in it, and they were to me more like a nursing home.

I went to American House Johnson City. The staff was nice. She walked me around the whole place, showed me where they eat, and showed me what the rooms looked like, it had an outside area. So, she was very accommodating. It's like a nursing room, it's like you're stuck in one hallway, and then you've got other people living there.

I've had different friends/relatives at 9 various Assisted Living facilities in Tri Cities: American House is the very best of those. Their rooms are bright, laid out well; the food is better than most places, there are several activities most days and multiple places to enjoy Outdoors. The best feature is their STAFF the nurses, CNAs and RAs are patient, caring, kind, enthusiastic -> the best overall group of ANY facility I've ever seen! *HOWEVER * American House is suffering from lack of staff; they're missing 1 to 2 people on every shift and in every position. While current staff are covering marvelously- they simply canNOT keep up if American House doesn’t do something to Hire and Retain good help. (Probably Pay Their People!) This would be 5 stars but their lack of staff has made them late with meals, showers, miss answering their phone, late helping with personal grooming, unable to Interact in Genuine Kindness (ie take 2min to work a puzzle or watch a bird with a resident-the real meaningful moments they used to share.)

We liked our tour of American House Johnson City, but they didn't have what we needed available. They were a little wishy-washy when I would call, they wouldn't return my calls so I'd have to keep calling back to get a hold of somebody. So that kind of put me off a little bit, but they were very nice and the facility is very nice. The only thing that worries me there is that they have different levels of care, and it could get very pricey because you don't have a say in what level they decide. Their base price is very good but when you add in their levels of care, it can get very expensive very quickly. The place was very nice and clean, it was an option I was thinking of considering, I was just a little concerned about their levels of care. They showed me both assisted living and memory care, they showed me everything. Their apartments were just single rooms and all they had was a room and a bathroom. You had to provide all your own stuff over there, they didn't provide anything. What I saw was a nice-sized room that had a good-sized bathroom and a closet. And they all had a private bathroom, which was very nice also. They allowed you to bring a refrigerator, but the only thing they allowed was might be like a mini fridge. They serve three meals a day and they always had snacks and things like that available. They also seemed like they had a lot of activities and they did medicine, so they had 24-hour nurses there that took care of their medicine and all that there. They were very helpful and informative. The staff who took me around was very nice and helpful. They had a private dining room where they serve their meals and it was nice. You would just have to be mindful of the added costs that are there. If you're on a budget, you might want to be very aware of that.

My sister had moved into American House Johnson City. The lady that's over the health care facility is fantastic. Her name's Sabrina, she was very helpful and very caring. She has done all she could do to assist my sister with the care that she needs. The place itself is friendly and nice and it's just altogether fantastic. I would recommend that facility highly. The rooms were very nice, very clean, and open. It's accessible to those that are handicapped and I'm pleased with where she's at. They have the semi and the private type. They are pet friendly. The day that my sister went in, as I was leaving there was a group coming in, and they played music. The residents enjoyed that. They have church on Sundays, and I think they have Bible study. They do have all kinds of activities for the residents. They get three meals a day, and snacks are included. It's very affordable and very nice. They have a courtyard and a library. They do have an exercise room. The walk-through was great. It was neat. They're redoing the carpet and remodeling. I have not tried the food, but when I went back there, they were in the area eating. It's a very nice cafeteria there. The room and the food smelt wonderful, and the food looked good. My sister enjoyed it. They are very reasonable in price more so than the others that I had been to.

We went to American House Johnson City. I thought it was nice, and the lady, Sabrina was great. She's even called back to check on me to see if I needed anything else to help my dad. She gave me a lot of information to help him apply for grants and stuff that he might qualify for. What I like best about this place is probably how nice it was inside, and Sabrina, she was great. What I like the least was probably the size of the rooms. They weren't very big enough for like an electric wheelchair. They have like a courtyard and screened-in back porch with bird feeders. My dad did like that. They have an activities room separate from the dining room, so I like that.

American House Johnson City was very inviting, very clean, and organized. The staff was very, very nice. I got a very nice walkthrough. I didn't see the food, but the dining area seemed to be very clean and well organized. The staff was wonderful, very informative, answered all my questions, and took me on a complete tour of the entire facility. It was a very nice experience. American House is someplace I would recommend. They were just a little too expensive.

I toured and overall it was a good experience. It's just the dimensions of the room were small, but it was set up nice and they did have a physical therapy room and everything that was needed. The staff was also very friendly and helpful.

Here you have to use your own furniture. One thing that impressed me is that I like to be able to see the outdoors, and they had a kind of an activity room that had a large exterior area and bird feeders. The fellow who helped me during the tour is very efficient, and he did a good job. It has a nice kind of a community room. It was very clean.

My husband moved into the assisted living. I am extremely happy with it. It has a wonderful atmosphere, the employees are wonderful to the people there, and my husband is doing exceedingly well. The food is generally very good, but my husband and his friends complained that weekends are iffy. They have gotten him to go to bingo, and he watches sports with friends. It's very clean.

The staff seemed to be very scattered. The place was also austere inside. They need to renovate it because it's older and it's not pleasing.

It had a great porch. The people who worked there and the facilities were just very nice. I didn't really pay much attention to the activities, but if my dad had been there, he probably would have asked more about the activities. There was no swimming pool, but they have an activity room.

It was very plush and nice, decorated very beautifully, and they seemed to have everything there that you could want. The staff that we dealt with -- the lady whom you talk to when you are getting ready to move in or who you ask questions to -- I talked with her and the nurse, and both of them were extremely nice. They told me that they'd help with anything I needed, agreed to go out of their way to try to get it for me, and said that I didn't have to worry. The rooms are a little small; I would appreciate just a few more square feet of room.

This community was the first one we went to, and they liked it. They haven't moved in yet, but they liked how close it was to their doctors and their home so they could have friends. I think what they really liked was the variety of activities there were to do. It turned out they have some friends there, which also helped, as did how friendly and helpful the people were. The rooms were fine, since they can't get around as much anymore. It didn't bother them that it wasn't as big as the home they were used to, but they still can get around and have some privacy. The staff was very nice, very helpful, very open. The sanitation was very good. It was clean and well kept.

We visited and this is a very nice facility. The room in this facility is a little bit smaller, but they have a very nice dining room. The staff were excellent, and the people were very friendly. The food is good. They have different activities for the residents to choose from. They took day trips and shopping. They also have different games that they could play, and they also have exercise.
