I was a resident at Maplewood in Nov and December. I experienced good care. There is one person I would like to comment about who stood out to me. His name was Mario. He went about doing his work quietly and efficiently while also demonstrating a sweet personality. And when he smiled it perked me up!. Sure makes a difference when you are lying in that bed and dependent on who comes in that door. We need more people like Mario. I am not complaining about other people who cared for me, Mario was just special!

My mom was at Maplewood Health Care Center. She went there for rehab. She was there for two weeks. We did not feel like she was getting the attention or care that she needed. The facility was okay. The rooms would be average for a place like that. The people working there were inattentive and unorganized. Food was average, too.

Maplewood Nursing and Transitional Care are doing a really good job in taking care of her. She is kept clean, keeping bed sores clean, and they make sure that she has her medicine. It’s clean, and the food is better during the week than on weekends. I would recommend it. They should have more private rooms to transition into. She is in a private room now, but after 100 days, she will have to go with the nursing care, and they do not have private rooms for that area. They are excellent people, sweet, easy to talk with, and easy to give you feedback.

My experience with Maplewood has for the most part been satisfactory, with the exceptions being with the afternoon/evening shift and the weekend staff. The day shift people, have a different, more personal relationship with the residents, which results in a better level of care for them. The evening and weekend staff have been known to use "punishment" if a resident says or does something that the staff does not like. The "punishment" that I am personally familiar with is not putting my mother to bed because she insisted on her diaper being changed after she had a bowel movement. Needless to say when my mom called me, I calmed her down, and when I got off the phone I immediately called Maplewood and insisted that my mom get put to bed immediately as it was four hours past her normal bedtime. This has happened three times but since the third time; I have went to the administration and spoke to them about these incidences and I am confident this will not be an issue again. I visited numerous other care facilities before deciding on this one because of the cleanliness and seemingly caring attitude that most of the employees have.
