My husband needed specialized care and therapy after a 2 week stay in the hospital. This was so unexpected and we did no research as we had no time, we needed a place to go that would be central to all our family members and Dickson NHC was just that. When we arrived, I was very pleased with the atmosphere. It seemed like a hotel to me. Of course, we were there mainly to get IV medication and physical therapy so that my husband could return home again. He had lost all strength in his arms and legs and was in intense pain. We couldn't have asked for a better place. The nurses were kind, compassionate, caring of our concerns. The social workers were on top of things and the nurse practioner was always helping us with getting the right medications. I was able to stay in the room with my husband, they brought me a rollaway bed and we were allowed to bring our little puppy dog with us. She hadn't been away from us ever and she was in shock for the 3 weeks that we were in the hospital. So, as long as I kept her from attacking the staff (she's 5 pounds) and took her out to do her business, she was allowed to stay. They made us as comfortable as they could under the stressful situation we were in. The psysical and occupational therapy helped my husband (even when he didn't want the help as he was in extreme pain). They helped him get his strength back and at the end of a month he was able to walk quite a ways with a walker. That's pretty good for someone who couldn't turn over by himself in bed when he first arrived. All in all, I couldn't be more pleased with the facility and every staff member-from all departments. Everyone was kind, compassionate and helpful. I thank God for everyone of the people who helped us in our time of need. Thank you all and may God bless you.

Mommo as we called her always hated the idea of a nursing home, but here she felt comfortable and collected. The staff was very nice and patient even though she was difficult to work with with her fading mind. They made her more comfortable than any of our family could have. They were very tolerant of me visiting after allotted hours and didn't get angry when I stayed late. They knew what I was going through and were very kind about it. I'm glad my family put her there.

The staff seemed very friendly here. The building itself was very clean and very large, easily accommodating all of the patients. My problems here, is that a lot of the patients are either bored, lonely, or medicated so heavily they are practically in a state of perpetual sleep (and if they aren't asleep, they're dazed off). I wish they would have activities for the patients, so that they weren't so sad and lonely all the time. It would help them a lot, and it'd be a better option than doping them up all the time. My grandpa stayed in this facility for a couple of years, and he stayed depressed a lot, because there wasn't a lot to do here. Having family or friends visiting patients is good, but this shouldn't be the only thing they have to look forward to. There should be fun things to do at the facility, things that they have to look forward to.
