NHC HealthCare Cookeville is very nice. It is where my sister is now. We usually eat with her every weekend. They have choices with meals. She could have a dinner-type meal at lunch. Another option would be to have a soup and sandwich for lunch, and then she could have a full meal at dinner. Her only complaint for breakfast is that there is so much food. Then by the time lunch comes, she's not ready. The staff are very compassionate. Her room is very roomy and sunny. In terms of amenities, if you're up to it, they have bingo and those type of activities. There is a beauty shop, so she can get her hair done, cut, or whatever. There is somebody who comes to see if you want your nails painted. They have a little common area, where we had a birthday party for her.

My mom is currently staying in NHC HealthCare Cookeville and they have been great. If you have a problem, all you have to do is call and tell them the problem, and they will connect you with the right person, and they'll see to it that the patient gets the necessary things that they need and take care of it. So they're really very attentive. She loves all of the CNAs and the nurses, and they're just great. She likes the food, I've never tasted it, but she says it's good and they give you plenty to eat. I've been there when they've brought snacks, like one day they brought cookies and coffee in, and yesterday they brought her strawberry floats. She goes to the cafeteria and eats and gets to socialize with the other patients there. One day I went and she was in class doing painting, and she has a little snowman that she made with a thermometer in it, and then she has a little wooden airplane that she put together and decorated. They also do word puzzles and they play bingo, so she likes that. They seem to do quite a few activities; she's enjoying it. So I decided as long as she was happy there then I won't move her. The building is very nice; they have a new part that's also really nice. They've remodeled some of the older areas, so they look a lot better than they used to. It's just a very good, nice, and clean facility. It doesn't have this smell when you walk in like it used to. years ago. It's more expensive than assisted living and we have to pay out-of-pocket, but she's not required to do as much on her own, so that part is good.

Staff was slow to respond and often not helpful. My mother would have to wait several minutes or even up to an hour for someone to respond to call buttons. Physical therapists were great and she was very happy with them. Would not recommend.

My mother is in NHC. We chose it because she had been there once before, and the hospital recommends it. The staff in that nursing home is wonderful. Everyone is very caring. It is very clean, and I am totally happy with all the care there. The rooms are kind of small, but they are very clean, and cleanliness to me takes priority over a lot of things. The food is great. They have a dining area for people that want to go down to the dining room. They have tables and chairs. It is cozy and comfortable. They have daily activities. They have sewing, movie nights, crafts, singing, and all of the different types of activities. They have church services going on there during week, and the security is good.
