My mom was there for a LONG 6 weeks. I will say, in contrast to the rest of the staff, the therapist were excellent. We requested a doctor consultation the third day, and never heard a peep from her, though we made repeated requests. Through research, we learned the doc was from an outside group of doctors and actually "serviced" several nursing homes. We were not allowed to use our private physician, which seems to be contrary to patient's rights. We repeatedly hit the call button to not have it answered in over 1.5 hours. Keep in mind, the alarm sounds until the responding nurse comes to answer the call. We would give up due to the sound and take care of the need ourselves. We learned where to go to ask for supplies, we changed diapers, we cleaned floors; we did not get paid for our services or receive a discount for their lack of service. The truly irritating part was the call nurse would be in the hall shooting the bull with her apparent boyfriend, who was not signed in as a guest or wearing clothing indicating he was an employee. Amazingly, we received letter after letter, begging for donations after this horrible experience. This stopped after a phone call to explain why they did not want to remind us of this terrible 6 weeks. If I were a board member or administrative staff, I'd be concerned about my interview at the pearly gates, as there is little but neglect of the helpless to be found at St. Barnabas.

This assisted living provider isn't terrible. The staff for the most part seem to care about the patients. They have an appropriate number of people staffed the majority of the time, unless of course people call out. Most of the residents are happy with the staff and their lives at St. Barnabas, but the staff sometimes neglects the patients in the worst conditions or saves them for last which I think is wrong. They also provide meals that don't seem too appealing and seem mostly like gross hospital food.

My mom stayed in the St. Barnabas Nursing Home after a fall and emergency surgery. At first, I wasn't sure what to think about St. Barnbas Nursing Home. My mom did not seem to be getting better, and I wasn't sure if she was getting the attention she needed. I think at the time, they may have been a little under-staffed on CNAs. But once the nursing staff realized there was a problem and that my mom was going to need a little special attention, they did a marvelous job. Every nurse I talked to about her gave me detailed reports on her condition and asked questions about her so that they could better meet her needs. The building is a beautiful, light-filled modern building that almost never smelled like a nursing home. It's location right by Erlanger hospital is good, too. But it is the caring nurses and staff at St. Barnabas who I think made a difference in my mother's recovery.

My aunt recently moved into St. Barnabas. She lives in an efficiency apartment with her own bathroom, a small kitchen, and a bedroom/living room area. She was able to bring in her own furniture and decorate her unit as she liked which she appreciated and made her happy to have a personalized space. She was also able to bring her cat to live with her, which was very nice. Every time I have gone to visit, the staff has been very positive. They have a large bulletin board with pictures of their residence and a calendar of activities. For each day, there is at least four things they can choose from. They offer everything from movies and bingo to trips to Wal-Mart. There is one employee in particular, Marie, who I have been so thankful for. She is always very prompt, and you can tell that she genuinely cares about the people living there. The facility also is always clean and well kept.
