Life Care Center of Hickory Woods

My husband stayed at the Life Care Center of Hickory Woods. Some of the technicians were very good and caring, but some of the nursing staff were very short with their answers. It seemed all they cared about was getting your money. They kept directing him to give up his medical insurance that he was on and apply for Medicaid, and then, as I did a further search, I found out they wanted him to get Medicaid because Medicaid would have charged him all of his assets and stuff. He would have had to sign all of his bank accounts and everything. And they would only allot him $70 a month after that. I wasn't happy with that, much less that we couldn't afford that. After his hundred days were up, I needed time to find a place for him to go. They just wanted him out, no matter what. They didn't want to give him another day or two until I could find somewhere, and they were like, "No, he has to go today, either that or come up with $13,000 for another 10 days." He was bedridden. I didn't know this until one day when we were going to go home. I was changing him and took his socks off, and his skin was all crusty and falling off of his feet because nobody had bothered to wash his feet in a hundred days or put any water on his feet. They just covered his feet up. The facility was beautiful, but the food was a little worse than hospital food. They have ice cream days, and they hand out ice cream to the patients, but he was always in his room, so I didn't see much activity going on.

My mom stayed at the Life Care Center of Hickory Woods for rehab. That was a very good community. I like the facility itself; it was very clean and well maintained. The rooms are spacious. The staff is very, very caring. The food was good; it was very good portion size, and very tasty.
