We chose Oak Pointe for my mother-in-law because it was close to us (it's just right down the road), but also price wise, and it doesn't have a nursing home or hospital feel. It's just like an old house that was redone and made into an assisted living, and they have the option of shared rooms and private rooms. They're always on top of everything. I can call or send a message and they're right on it, and they come to me and keep me updated. I get messages from them and they update me on stuff. She loves the food and it's more like homecooked meals. She's loved just about every meal. They're still updating some stuff. They have a salon, an activity room, and two TV rooms. We're getting what we pay for.

We chose Whitehaven for my mother-in-law. We like that it's small, prepare the meals, have 24-hour nursing care, and in country setting. It had large grounds on it where you can go outside. Their staff is awesome.

I would NOT recommend this facility. I was assured this was a secure facility for Alzheimer's patients and after only 6 days, my aunt was able to leave the premises and walk to a major highway. I am her Power of Attorney and Responsible Party. I was not informed of her elopement until a family member that was visiting my aunt was told by a young worker who knew the my relative from school. This facility does not appear to be qualified to give the medical care necessary to patients in an assisted living facility. In the week that my aunt was a resident, I never met any staff members that had any medical credentials (RN, LPN, etc). I requested a meeting with the owner to ask for at least a partial refund of the $1,700 for 6 days and was met with hostility and a refusal for any type of refund. I was also informed by the owner (without provocation), that if I was considering legal representation to let them know she "would be there and waiting". The owner is very unprofessional and this facility should be investigated in my opinion.
