My stepfather moved to Cypress Square. I had two meals with him that day when we went. My sister takes him out for walks. The ladies were all talking to him, so it was pretty interesting. They're way too expensive, but we're satisfied with the care and everything. We know it's going to be way too expensive, and it's worth it.

My dad moved into Cypress Square. He was in an independent living facility prior to this, but he needed more care, so I had to move him up where he'll get more care. So far, Cypress Square has been absolutely amazing. They take such good care of him. They check in on him numerous times a day. They make sure he doesn't stay in his room. They bring him out into the communal area, so he's not just left to walk away. They keep his room clean. They keep him clean. Even with dementia, he's made friends. All the family members have asked about food. He says it's very good, and he's kind of picky, so I was surprised that he was into that, so he's where he needs to be. I can sleep at night knowing that he's safe. The lady who helped me sign all the papers to get him in was amazing. She is emotional about what she does. You could tell this was not fake care. It was real, legitimate caring. It's a beautiful place. It's not fancy. It's not shiny and pretty, but they have a really nice garden where they could run around and walk around, and they don't get lost because it's on the inside.

My mom moved into Cypress Square, and she's doing great. She's very social. She also gained five pounds, which is wonderful. She's happy with the meals, and she's happy they have snacks. The place is very nice. Everybody is very nice to her. It's one floor and shaped in a rectangle where they have a courtyard that is not street-accessible. They don't have to be locked in and they don't need to ask to go out. They could walk into the courtyard from anywhere in that rectangle of the building, so the structure is very good, especially for someone who might be a flight risk. The staff members have been wonderful so far. They've been great from the beginning. They have musicians come in and entertain. They have sing-alongs with the residents. They play bingo. They have crafts, a movie night, and family interactive things, like parties on holidays, and they invite the families. They go on outings if they want. There's nothing that has raised a red flag for me at all. The facility is very easy to navigate. It's a smaller place and smells good.

I thought Cypress Square was decent, but not great. It had more of like a hospital feel to it, because the rooms were very, very small. They had the smallest rooms out of any place that I've seen. You could barely even fit a queen-sized bed in there. It just seemed like they just assume that you're just going to bring a bed and maybe a chair, and that would be acceptable. But I don't see that as being remotely acceptable for someone that's going to be living there. It's a one-story manufactured type looking building. It is basically a big circle around a courtyard with the rooms on the outside. There's no movie theater, they have limited activities, and their dining hall is very small. It just seemed not as clean and as well organized as other places I had seen. The staff member who toured me around was very nice and very matter of fact. My thing is, in touring all these places, and in my experience over the years (because my mother has been in a nursing home for years), is that I know that they have room to negotiate what your monthly is going to be, or how much you pay for the community fee and things along those lines. There was absolutely no room for that whatsoever at Cypress Square. And it was, "Nope. This is what it is, and it can go all the way up to this, and that's it." It just didn't feel like they really wanted my business. They need to improve their exterior too. The dining hall looked cheap. They had folding chairs and stuff in there. The exterior could use a gardener and some pressure washing.

It was an excellent place. The people were super friendly. It has everything there that we were looking for. Everything's kind of in the air at this minute, but it was a very nice facility. I liked it. I love the people. The staff has followed up with me a couple of times. They were super informative and super people. They told me they would send somebody out to visit with my mother a little bit to judge what level they thought she was going to need. The dining area was very nice. We didn't get to actually sample the food because it was in the afternoon, and it wasn't dinnertime yet. The rooms were very nice and spacious. It was a nice place. They had super attitudes all the way around. Everybody seemed to be in good spirits there. They had a game room and a TV room. They take them out for visits to places around town, as long as they're able to do that. I believe they have people come in and entertain them. The person during the tour was outstanding. I would be comfortable if my mom was there.

We went over here. The only reason why we did not pick this one was because they did not have a room available. The location is better for us personally because it is here in Summerville, where I live. The room is identical to what we chose over at the other facility. The staff was friendly, very warm and welcoming. They have a library and a courtyard. It is spacious and well laid out. It is also a small community.

It was very bright, cheerful, and they do a lot of activities there. They also have transportation and a lot of nice programs for their residents. They had a very nice kitchen. The rooms were large and they've got very open hallways. Their activities director does an awful lot to keep their folks engaged. There was so much enthusiasm from the residents there. They are very concerned about what their residents do and how they stay active.

My visit was fantastic. Everything was nice. The people were really trying to please my husband, he joked around, and he enjoyed the people there. He didn't find any fault with it; he just doesn't want to do it. They invited us to a social event, and they had picnic food that day. They had it all prearranged. They always have entertainment maybe once a week. I just sat in the back, and I witnessed them being entertaining and really nice with the patrons. It seemed to me like it wasn't phony. I actually went in a room, there was a woman in there who was doing her knitting, and she didn't mind us coming in and talking. It seemed like everybody was friendly -- the patrons, the workers, the employees -- it just looked like everyone was happy. They even allow pets, and someone had a dog. They had also this gentleman who was into gardening, and he had done herbs and vegetables for the place. It wasn't overly large, but what grounds that they had, it's a very smart thing to let people plant things if they're into that. We liked it because it's close to my house, I could bring in his medication, and they would give it to him.

The staff who assisted us was Carol, and she was very good. My dad has a one room studio, and you have to bring your own furniture so it is what you make it, but it is very nice, and it has a small kitchenette. The food is very good, but my father is 91 so he doesn't eat a whole lot. It is a very nice place, the kitchen is good, and the dining room is nice; the whole thing is very nice. They have games and exercise classes, bingo, and all kinds of things like that. I was most impressed with the staff and their dining room.

My wife liked them, so that’s the one we put my mother-in-law in. To me, it’s just a real nice place. It’s very comfortable. They seem to care for her. They seem like genuine, caring people. It’s a little apartment, like a 1-room apartment with her own bath. It’s large enough for her and very accommodating for her. They have church on Sunday. They have things throughout the week like bingo and sing-alongs. I’m very impressed with them. She’s happy there. She’s made friends, and she has a lot more to do than she did when she was with us.
