I went to Brookdale Ebenezer Road. There were a few lax in safety. Some cleaning supplies were left out. And there was a project that the residents were working on which was really nice. They were recovering a bench, but it was left out with staples and tools and stuff lying out, and it was right underneath a fire hydrant. So it was blocking the way of getting to an emergency station. I spoke with Howard, he was pleasant.

I toured Brookdale Ebenezer Road. It was just the whole atmosphere. We liked them and we liked the security of the place as well. And all the people from the residents to the staff, everybody was cool. They really enjoy being there. We looked at a one bedroom that's got a little living room area. The studio was nice too. We just figured the one-bedroom would be better for Dad, just because when we go to visit him we could just sit in his living room area, or go outside. The layout, we love the way it's like a circle, so it's not like you're locked into one specific area or anything. It's more open and inviting. Damon gave us a tour, he was great, informative, and gave us any information. And even the staff that we met, a couple of the therapists, and they would talk about different cognitive therapy, physical therapy, and speech therapy. They do a lot of different therapies there and that was a great thing too, because it was about doing different cognitive things that might help Pops with the memory stuff.

Brookdale Ebenezer Road was a friendly community as far as the different residents that were there, but everyone was kind of by themselves. The facility was a little on the dark side as far as the color. It wasn't bright. We didn't get a chance to speak to the sales manager, but we got to speak to the office manager so we couldn't find out what kind of price there was. The ladies were a lot older than my mother was and probably couldn't identify with them. It wasn't something that she was looking forward to. The rooms were smaller. The showers did not have seats in them and some didn't have grab bars. So, it wasn't something that my mother could use.

My impression of Brookdale Ebenezer Road is very positive. I liked that the place was clean, and there was no smell of pee. I liked the fact that everybody has meals together for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They do activities together. They showed me a one-bedroom and two-bedroom that were empty. What I liked the most was the menu. They have a choice of three kinds of meals. They don't have a pool.

Brookdale Ebenezer Road was homey, comfortable, had a super friendly staff, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. They did a great job of showing us the place and showing us every available floor plan. They were just very gracious, and we really liked them. The one drawback there was the air registers. It's like a hotel register under the window. We're used to central air, so that would be very difficult. Other than that, they were great. They let you age in place, so you can stay there until you have hospice. It's well kept up and well maintained. It looked like they kept their paint up, and it was very clean. I didn't smell any urine. It was not like a nursing home. It was more like apartments. It was very nice. They gave us a cake, and it was very good. We met everybody from the nursing assistants and the cook, to the executive director. They were very friendly, and they took time with us. I was impressed.

My mother is currently at Brookdale Ebenezer Road. It's convenient, they were very helpful when I was looking, and they provided everything I needed. They're very good, and have a really good staff. The food is so-so, some days it's good, and some days it's not so good, but it's fine. They have a nice courtyard for outdoor, if they sit outside, a nice sunroom, they have different religious singing groups that come in, they have a bible study, they have bingo, they play some games, they have a nice library with books, and they have nice activities for people like corn hole.

I'm not thrilled with Brookdale Ebenezer Road right now. They raise my mom's rates significantly every year, yet their new rates for incoming people are significantly lower. In addition, they did not tell me that if my mom had a wound or an injury, they would not be able to treat it there. They were supposed to have weekly trips out but shortly after my mom moved there, the man that was doing that job left so there's very few trips. I'm not happy with that at all and my mom says she's not happy there. My mom's room reeked of urine for months and the only time anything seemed to be done about it is when I would complain about it. They are charging me for them to go in every two hours to make sure she went to the bathroom, then they upped her clothing charge because they said they helped her get dressed because she didn't change her pull-ups. If they were checking on her every two hours, I don't see how her pull-ups were overflowing at that point. The facility's public areas are very nice, but they changed one of the public rooms that used to be a very nice room for families to meet into an office. There's no private area in the general area anymore. Some of the staff members are very good, and some are terrible. The food isn't horrible but it's not very user-friendly.

My mother is in Brookdale Ebenezer. They have a recreational lady who does different things with them like bingo and ball games. They serve three meals a day. The staff is very nice, pretty quick in responding, and do what I ask them to do. I have been there when she is eating and it seems to be good. They have someone that straightens her room every day and cleans it once a week and someone who washes her clothes. There is a lady that comes there and does her hair once a week. They have services and people who come in there and look at them, but my mom has already her own doctor. I like it.

She’s in Brookdale for about a year now. The staff is better, as far as the care is concerned.

This community used to be a great place. However over the past few years it has really ran down hill pretty quickly. Seems like the employees are never happy, quite rude at times and barely do the duties asked of them. I have known many people who have placed their loved ones here- several of them complain about the care and one elderly lady didn't receive a shower for WEEKS! She always had on the same clothes every day. Some were found laying in their beds with feces around them. I also know that the director of the facility would rather heavy medicate the seniors than redirect or offer other solutions. Too many other options in the Rock Hill area to consider than take a chance on this facility

Brookdale Place Rock Hill was expensive. The staff was very nice. I liked the rooms very much, but one of the rooms that I visited had a terrible smell. The dining room was OK -- nothing special.

I wasn't really thrilled with Sterling House. The living environment was just acceptable and I really didn't feel it was that good. A room there includes a private bath, a kitchenette, a small closet, and a dresser. They would provide a bed but you can bring your own furniture. I told them that my husband doesn't sleep in bed and that he sleeps in a recliner; however, they didn't like that. Regarding activities, they didn't have anything going on then when I was there. We did think about moving my husband in this facility. I told them that my son is going to be visiting us. When they noticed my last name, they said, "Well, he can't come in." My son had some legal issues at that time, and basically they said that our son can't come in to see his dad.

Sterling is very nice. I was a little surprised at the diversity of the rooms that they have. I've had meals there and it's very nice. The staff was always very accommodating. They have an assisted living facility and total care. The residents are interacting with each other and they're very happy there. I think it's a very nice and homey facility.

My mother-in-law was a patient at this facility. She had the onset of Alzheimers and this made it very difficult to care for her at home. This facility was a locked facility. No one in or out without permission or being accompanied by someone. The nursing staff, at best, was adequate. They provided the basic of care. I don't feel that they went out of their way to take care of the patient's needs. It was basically, here you go take this and move on. The cleaning staff seemed to do a good job. Rooms were cleaned very nicely and trash was collected regularly from the apartments, as they were called. Inside security was in question as male and female alzheimer patients were in the same area. Men just walked in to my mother-in-laws room while we were there. This was not acceptable. The food provided was healthy. Meals were served 3 times a time and they could ask for food or snacks at other times. The problem here was if they did not show up for a meal, they were not always followed up on. She could miss several meals. Family was to be notified of all appointments and extra care given or needed. This did not always happen. I know the facility was for assisted living and not total care, but I think this facility fell short of its duties.

Due to the high costs of mom's previous facility where she was in an Alzheimer's unit, we had to reduce monthly expenses. Also, we felt that most of the patients where she was were mentally more impaired than she was and I wanted her to have more meaningful interaction with residents. So, I put her in Sterlinghouse, which is a for profit continuing care facility that does not have various units and does accept Medicare benefits. All of the levels of care are together and as a patients' conditions worsen, they simply change the list of services that a patient receives. This seems to work well as far as individual one on one patient care goes, however since there is not a concentration of memory patients, there is a dearth of activities for patients of mom's specific condition of dementia. All in all I found mom's care at Sterlinghouse satisfactory, however Sterlinghouse did not identify mom's dehydration. The single limitation of Sterlinghouse's level of care is that they do not accommodate patients needing IVs or feeding tubes.
