My husband is at Life Care Center of Columbia. The staff is friendly, compassionate, and helpful. The facility is beautiful and very clean. When you walk in, you wouldn't think you were in a nursing home because it doesn't have odor. It's very pleasant. The food, the majority of the time, is tasty. It looks like you want to eat it because they put it on the plate organized, it just looks good. He's in a private room, and it's big. It's very clean and housekeeping keeps it neat and clean.

The rooms were comfortable, and the staff was kind and confident. The Physical Therapy was very helpful and got me back on track to return back home to my loving family. I would recommend this facility to anyone seeking Rehabilitation services. I am well on my way to RECOVERY!

One of the worst places I have had the misfortune of staying. The nursing staff (and I use that term loosely) was horrible, extremely rude and always slow to respond…food was horrible and always cold when served. If I ever have the need for any type of rehab again, it will definitely not be at Life Care. Physical therapy was useful but occupational therapy was a waste of time. No activities were ever offered and there were no amenities.

I was in Life Care Center of Columbia for my rehab, and it was horrible there. It was hard living there for the fourteen days. I was there eighteen days, and when I got out of there I was glad to be out of there. I had to have surgery again on my foot, and I'm praying they don't put me back there. It was a horrible place. My sister had to call the administrator because I was sleeping in a juvenile bed. I'm 6'1" and they had to give me a full-size bed. The therapy was wonderful. The therapists were very nice; I'd give them a "five." I didn't have any activities or anything. I was in my room the whole time I was there. It was fairly clean. I never went to any outdoor areas because of COVID. I was quarantined fourteen days. I got out of quarantine two days before they released me from there, so I never got to see the outside much. I would push the button, and I would have to wait for an hour for somebody to respond -- and that's too long. One night after I got a little bit better, I got in my wheelchair because I kept calling for a nurse and nobody answered. I went out on the floor, but there was nobody on the floor. There's a new administrator there, and he's trying to turn things around. He's working hard on doing it.

I've visited Life Care Center of Columbia, and I know the administrator there, Tina. The experience was nice. We would go there on Saturdays or Sundays and sing songs or spiritual hymns, and they enjoyed that. The rooms were nice, well kept, and organized, and the staff knows what they're doing. It's always clean. If I ever had to put a family member somewhere, I would be comfortable with them going there. It seemed to be a very nice community.

I had a couple of elderly friends that were in Life Care Center Columbia. We went out there once a week for five years with my friend and seemed to be well taken care of. They did have activities and a social worker that did that, but neither of my friends participated in it. They had two people in one room. We went out there for the Thanksgiving dinner that they had, and the food was good. The place is clean. We got to know some of the people there, like the aides, the nurses, and they seemed to be doing a very good job.

My mother went to Life Care Center of Columbia for about two weeks or so, and that was only because she was in between doctors, so I could not take her home right away because you have to have an established physician. Her stay there wasn't very good. At least, at that point, she was already off the feeding tube, so she could eat. They wouldn't let her do anything except fall. She fell twice from trying to get out of her chair, stuff like that, and they wouldn't watch her. They just turn around and there she goes. There was one nurse who was completely useless. The only thing about that place, which was strange to us, was they had some really nice carpeted rooms right there near the front when you walk in, and they were all empty. So, I thought it was kind of cool and we could get a good room, but they don't do that. They put her all the way in the back in a non-carpeted, nothing special room. And then, they kept telling me that they keep those open for some special occasion or something, but I don't know what that would be and they wouldn't elaborate. I had a feeling that maybe those were only for show.

Life Care Center has a decent reputation and is one of the larger nursing homes in Columbia. I have been regularly transporting patients to and from there for many years. As far as the building itself goes, I would rate it a 4/5 - the only thing that keeps it from a 5 is that it feels slightly more like a hospital than a place for people to live. The staff is very caring and friendly, and they provide lots of activities for their patients. Amenities include a large dining hall, a library, a barber shop/beauty shop, and even an Ice Cream Parlor (My personal favorite). The staff in the Alzheimer's/Dementia wing of Life Care is of particular note. They have always been very kind and compassionate towards any patient I've ever brought into their ward. While Life Care is certainly not the absolute best facility in Columbia, it is far from the worst and I would recommend it.

Life Care seems to have an intense desire to help your loved ones recuperate from an unexpected wreck, sugery, illness, etc .They even offer private services such as running errands, shopping and a little housekeeping as well. Great atmosphere. They're so serious that they have over 200 centers in 28 different states, EVEN HAWAII....Whoa!
