My husband and I used to live in a place called Leighton Place in Williamsport. The thing I liked most about it was the activities. There were lots of arts and crafts and gardening. The thing I liked least was, towards the end before I left, they made it feel like a prison. They put cameras in the hallways, changed the locks on the front door, and you have to sign in and sign out and say where you are going. The people who took care of the residents were great, but the management was terrible. The food was not very good. They didn't have balanced meals for the elderly. They put too much salt in it which wasn't good. When I moved there, I moved into an apartment with my husband, who needed assisted living care. Once he passed away, I stayed there for a year, just until I could figure out what I wanted to do. The assisted living was good for him, but it didn't work out for me. We chose the place because they agreed to provide an apartment for both me and my husband. They agreed that they could take care of him rather than putting him in the nursing home. They also helped in providing hospice care for him in those last months.

My mother has moved into Leighton Place. They had an opening, and we thought it was a nice place. They seem to know what they're doing. The food is not all that good, and it doesn't seem like they're giving them enough to eat. They have bingo, noodle ball, movie night, and other things. It's kind of a residential area. There is a hospital not far away.
