I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My wife is in a nursing home right now, Juniper Village Rehabilitation and Skilled Care at Brookline. The facility, buildings, and landscaping is the best thing. What I like least is that the CNAs are somewhat unskilled and not emotionally attached to the residents. The staff is generally friendly and helpful, but not too personable. The facility is clean and the building is very good and strong. Some of the activities that I've seen include singing, watching movies, crafts, entertaining, dancing, and guest musicians. The community has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Juniper Village Rehabilitation and Skilled Care at Brookline is a nursing home and a rehab hospital connected to each other. My father-in-law felt that everyone there was pleasant and did a nice job. The food was terrible and he didn't care for it, but he was comfortable with the people. The place is actually very attractive and spotlessly clean. His room seemed a little on the small side to me but it was comfortable and clean. We had some communication issues in the beginning. They have a very nice pair of social workers there, and as soon as you get to them, then you can get things done.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Excellent personal attention to all needs. One on one physical occupational therapy was enthusiastically executed with care for patient's abilities. Personal attention available when needed. Loving attention given by entire staff. Timely meal service with good menu variety.

I visited this facility

In my experience at brookline village, I get the impression that it is a very nice place. Its connected to a nice golf course right in the middle of state college pa.The staff were extremly friendly and although a few situations arose which included but werent limited to bathroom accidents, the staff stayed friendly and showed no sign of frustration or disgust. all the people staying there that i spoke with seemed to enjoy themselves and eachother very much nobody had anything bad to say. The place looked very clean and had plenty of room and chairs for everyone. the only thing I personally didnt like was the food, it was cheap tasting and the place looked very expensive I couldnt understand why the food was so bad. but nobody else seemed to mind. Anyway after about 5 hrs it was time for my group to leave and everyone we had spent time with was very greatful for our visit and we even received a thank you letter signed by everyone that was there that day. we all enjoyed our trip to brookline village so much we went back a month later....sadly not everyone was still there but thats life....I had a very wondeful time at brookline village in state college pa

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I did not have very many interactions with the staff except for a few nurses that helped my grandmother. Overall the interactions was friendly and the staff seemed like they enjoyed their jobs and generally cared for the patients. I wasn't able to explore much of the facility, as I spent most of the time in my grandmother's room. The room was a little hospital like but it was comfortable enough and my grandmother did not seem to mind it. We were able to have a nice time in a large seating area and enjoyed our time with the other patients and staff. Overall I would recommend this facility to others. My dad, who was there every day checking on her only had positive comments every night when he came home.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

They didn't care about my father at all, which I understand in an understaffed facility like this one, where the staff are under trained and under paid to boot. They also appeared to take very little pride in their jobs and most appeared to not want to stand up at all, much less help someone else move around. I saw people who had fallen next to their beds and were left there, yelling as best they could, for help. The first few days, the staff were very nice and everything seemed fine, but as I kept coming back every morning, the awful treatment of the residents became more and more apparent - I felt like they stopped putting on a show for me as a family member and started being themselves. There were never other family members visiting at the times when I visited. My father was not incontinent, but was not helped to the bathroom at all if it was after 8PM at night. The staff couldn't understand what he was saying, because of the brain cancer, and I can only imagine that they thought no one else could understand him either, but I was still able to understand him talk about the abuse and neglect he suffered. The grounds were very nice actually, well kept and clean and welcoming, but the food was terrible and the care was negligent and cruel. I gather this is pretty standard for nursing homes, just from talking to people involved in the industry. It was depressing that we put up with people being treated that way as a society.
