I wouldn't even give it a 1. My mother stayed there for several years and it was horrible for her. She was always calling me complaining about the staff. Even though we had to pay for oxygen, they were always running out so I couldn't take her anywhere. The doctor there was horrible too. This whole time in my life was a nightmare. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I had heard they cleaned house shortly after my mother passed away. I hope they got rid of all the horrid people. THis place was defintely everyone's worst nightmare of a nursing home.

My aunt spent seven years at the Barbara J. Egan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She received excellent care. The home is located in a rural setting in south central Pennsylvania. In nice weather we were able to sit outside and look at the flowers and birds. All of the staff were kind and caring, but I was especially impressed with the nursing assistants. Once when I visited my aunt, I saw a recently assembled photo album. I knew my aunt wasn't capable of doing this on her own, so I asked around and found out that one of the nursing assistants had stayed after her shift to help her do it. This type of kindness is unusual anywhere, but in a nursing home, I thought it amazing. The only thing I found fault with was the actual nursing staff. It was hard to get information from them on the phone as at that time they didn't seem to be computerized and things had to be looked up in books.

The facility is clean and there are now hand sanitizers. I would give 5 stars except that the nurse management has changed too many times, this time is is bad POSITIVES The 3 to 11pm staff is amazing and takes extra, extra special care of the patients. I do not know the night staff. Day staff seems to be less available than the evenings, but they have 2 meals to deal with so it understandable. Stacy in therapy is a great therapist. Diana at the front desk is very helpful and treats the patients like gold. The social worker goes out of her way to help the family and the patients but i do not remember her name. She is aways seen assisting someone . George is a total hoot, the best social director ever. There are many activities for the residents and the family is always included. The Nurse or PA Gayle from Wellspan is a very friendly, knowledgeable woman. She is kind and a good clinilcal practitioner. There are evening concerts, outside when weather allows, birds and bird feeders and lovely gardens. The CNA's on all the shifts are awesome, even during stressful holiday weekends and the like. The billing office has really helped me hammer out problems with insurance. I had issues that spanned many many months and was pulling out my hair, Nikie fixed it like that. Bam! Pastoral services are available. Rooms are kept very clean. Residents are mostly neat and tidy. And the facility does not have that awful odor some do. It is very tastefully decorated . The rooms are double rooms but you have a dresser and closet , plenty of space on the wall and you can hook up to cable TV for free. NEGATIVES: Mom has been here over a year, the nursing care was much better prior to arrival of the latest head of nursing.Hearing the bossr yell at nurses, yell at families and I saw her cause a little lady to dissolve in to tears., it was awful.Mom avoids her like the plague . My husband has overheard her speaking about patient's in the hallway and allowing others to hear private info. This should be stopped., but there is no administrator at the facility all the time. It is a shame it doesn't not encompass the caring nature of the Lutheran facility. I think all the change in staff is not good. there have been about 6 secretaries in the past 18 months. Once they get there act together, I can give a 5 star review . But not now.

Floors are often filthy, if you take someone there make sure you go there often to clean tables and surfaces on your own. My fathers eyes are never cleaned like they are supposed to be 3 times a day, I have to do it myself and wash his hands too. If you take in any products to clean hands, face or surfaces, LABEL it or they "will" pitch it. There is a CNA that works during the days and she is very rude. In the past six months they have gone through 3 different Rehab staffs and 3 Admissions coordinators. The new owners have taken out all of the hand sanitizers in all of the rooms and the morale seems to have suffered with the staff in the past six months. You must stay vigilant over your loved ones if this is the only place they can go, the night time nurses and staff are better than the day timers.
