I visited this facility

Phoebe Richland Community was clean, but I didn't see residents in the common areas. The rooms were pretty up-to-date. They had kitchenettes in them with a refrigerator and a microwave, and they had storage spaces. They had their own physical therapy room which looked well equipped. The staff assigned to our tour wasn't ready for my appointment. I had to wait till he finished his lunch. The other thing that I had a concern about this place was that because of COVID, visitors were not allowed in the common areas. They had to visit their relatives in their private rooms.

Provider Response

Hi there, I would like to get some more details about your experience with us. We do follow all CDC recommended guidelines for COVID, and at the time of your tour residents may not have been able to congregate in common areas. This is no longer the case, and you will notice that residents are excited to be active across the Richland campus! If you are willing, please reach out to us to discuss this further. Thank you for your comment, and we hope you have a good day!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband is at Phoebe Richland Community. The staff does what they're supposed to do. They take care of him. He gets his shower and so on. They have a nice dining room. The food is good and my husband seems to like it, but they are short-staffed. They can't do so much. He just sits in there. They took him out of the one bedroom and put him in another bedroom for two people and it's so crowded. Now with two beds, you can't get the wheelchair in. They do the best they can, considering that they're short-staffed and they have a lot of people in there, but that's just the way it is. They have a courtyard and I've had him out there a couple of times when the weather was nice. They also have a room with machines where they take you to do your PT. The staff is nice. Everybody wears a mask and if they see something is not right, they'll correct that situation.

Provider Response

Hi Billie, we appreciate your honest feedback as we always look for ways to improve. We hope that we can provide your husband, and you, with the best experience possible. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any additional questions or concerns. Thank You!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister moved up to Phoebe Richland Community. It was very welcoming. They gave her all the physical therapy she could handle, which was great. She had physical therapy almost every day and occupational therapy almost every day when she got there. She still gets it quite frequently. The staff is very nice. She enjoys the other residents there. She says she has a wonderful time getting to know them and they're very caring also. I was there one Saturday when the director himself was helping someone move into their memory care area. He was moving the clothing and stuff in himself on a Saturday. They're just delightful. There's an exercise class of some kind every morning, wheelchair volleyball, chair, or tai-chi. There's at least one activity every morning and one or two activities every afternoon. Every day I call or when I talk to my sister, she'll say, "Oh yes, we had an exercise this morning." It's a smaller place, so they can't offer the diversity of activities that a larger facility might offer. The assisted living has a beautiful lounge area when you walk in. The dining room is lovely. You couldn't ask for anything better. I get no complaints from my sister except there's no salt, but she can bring some herself. That's for health reasons. I saw two small library reading areas, a game room, a big lounge, and a dining room. She's in a temporary room right now because there were no rooms available, so it's a little small but very nice and furnished. It has a dresser, a wardrobe, a chair, a bed, a little kitchenette, and a beautiful bathroom that's handicapped accessible. It is less expensive than others for definitely something better. Their staff is especially caring. This place is much more consistent with their staffing, which means the staff gets to know their people better.

Provider Response

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is a resident of Phoebe Richland. Her level of care is the end of life; she's going to stay there until she passes. She needs 24-hour care. It's not one of the nicest places she's been, but the rooms are a nice size. She's got a roommate, and she doesn't spend much time in her room. She spends a lot of time out of the nurses' station, only because she's a high fall risk, and they don't want to leave her alone. It's clean, and I think she's well taken care of. The tour was great, and the nurses do their job. They don't keep me as informed as in other places that she's been. I have to say, not that they're lacking, but they're just not in as much contact with me as the previous place where she was. I've seen trivia games, and arts and crafts activities, and they do lots and lots of puzzles. They do color activities. They've got a big poster, and everybody can color it. That went up a few weeks ago for the residents to color on that. There are not as many activities because of the level of care. At this stage, she's not doing much. The people there are not doing much, so there aren't as many activities. The place is very well kept. They're large and clean, and they have an outdoor gazebo, which is nice. They have flowers planted, which my mother enjoys because she always planted flowers at home. What I'm seeing now is spring flowers, and what I have seen on the complex in the last year, they have all kinds of flowering shrubbery. I've seen planters at this place that will be planted probably this spring or summer. When you go out to the gazebo, there are planter areas. It's nice to look at it, and it's nice to be there. It's not shabby. It's very welcoming. My mother likes it here, and that is all that matters. She started in assisted living, and then she went to memory care, and now she's at the end-of-life kind of section of the building. Overall, it was pretty good. She fell too many times at the assisted living place, but when she went to the memory care unit, they were fantastic. I love that. When she couldn't walk or stand or go to the bathroom by herself, she had to be moved here to this section. They're good with her, I think. For the staff, in this particular section, I would only give them a four; in some of the other sections, I would have given them a five. Mom says she likes the food, she put on quite a lot of weight. The facility is not brand new. They don't have many activities in this section because the people can't do anything. I have nothing else to compare it to, but senior care is very expensive, and it is depleting her funds very rapidly.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother went to this facility to regain her strength to walk. I removed her after a week and a half because she was getting worse by the day. They don't do one bit of rehab on the weekends. It took them 2 days to get her a reclining chair. The food was cold and terrible a majority of the time. She had a sore mouth and it was too much trouble for the nurses to look at it. They also did not attend to her hygiene properly. We have had quite a few family members in this facility in the past, NEVER AGAIN!

This facility is extremely understaffed on Sundays. Therefore, the aides are stressed out with double workloads. We as a family are extremely upset and worried about this situation. There are some very helpful employees and there are other employees with bad attitudes. The healthcare facility is an outdated Hospital like atmosphere. The only nice, beautiful looking place is their new personal care facility. I am only reviewing the healthcare facility which is the Skilled Care Facility. Meal times are awful when they are understaffed. On One Wing the double rooms are extremely small.

Phoebe Richland is amazing. They made my mom feel at home, and she's happy. The grounds are beautiful, and it's a wonderful place. She's in long-term care, so she's right by the nurse's station, and they take good care of her. They have great activities, like bingo and arts and crafts. The food is not perfect, but it's OK.

I visited this facility

Phoebe Richland was beautiful and new. It’s kind of a rural setting, and the building itself is new and very nice. We had one meal, and it was good. It’s a Phoebe facility, so it has the same reputation. The dining area was very pretty. They had plans for a library and gardening spot; I’m a gardener, so that would be a very appealing to me.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I was a resident of Maple Glen for the first two months it was open this year. Since I was there for respite care (short term) after having a total hip revision, I chose a studio unit -- which was plenty of space for one person. The facility is beautiful, and the dining room very open and airy with a complete wall of windows overlooking the rest of Phoebe's acreage available for future development. The staff was extremely efficient, and most of all, very caring and concerned about their residents!

I visited this facility

We visited Phoebe Richland Health Care Center's The Cottage, which is a skilled nursing memory care unit for individuals with Alzheimer’s or dementia. It is very attractive. The staff appeared to be caring and attentive to the residents of the unit. They had a small dining area in the memory care unit itself, like a common area or a small dining room.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mom is in Phoebe Richland. They're very caring, friendly, and helped us tremendously in getting Mom moved in. They met her at the door and greeted her warmly. My mom has a really nice, deluxe studio apartment and is getting very good care. The food is excellent; you're given a menu at every meal with specials of the day. I have eaten there with my mom three or four times and it has been very good. It's new. Where my mom is in the personal care facility with 44 units. They have just opened a dementia unit on the first floor and skilled nursing facility with it, but they don't have independent living. For activities, they are not organized in that area yet. It's expensive. There's no entrance fee, which was a big deal for us, and they do have a benevolant program if you do run out of money.
