My mother was put in rehab called Canterbury Place Pittsburgh, PA. It's a UPMC place in Lawrenceville. I think it's a combination of nursing home and rehab, and they were good. Last year, she had a bad year and she was there twice. The first time was when she fractured some vertebrae, and then the second time was when she fell and cracked her tailbone, and broke her wrist. They provide 24-hour care so it's more like a nursing facility. They were also in charge of her medications and meals, which she didn't like much. When she had to see other doctors, they would make arrangements for her to see them. The nurses also work closely and always pay attention when my mother presses the bell. The place is very clean. It's also a secure building. You need a passcode to get into the floor where they're at. I was there at meal times and I don't like the institutional food. Sometimes it's overcooked or undercooked. They did have things for the residents to do. The first time my mother was there was July and they had some festivities for the 4th of July and Thanksgiving. They had things going on for Christmas and even for Halloween, and they had a party for the residents, their children, and grandchildren.

Dissatisfied with weekend Skilled Nursing staff. Only one on the Rehab unit. It took 3+ hours for patient/family member's wound covering to be cleaned/changed although gauze and tape were visibly damp and discolored. Other staff were pleasant and helpful.

I toured Canterbury Place for my brother. It was clean and the people were nice and polite. The rooms were really clean and neat. There was a young lady who showed us around, she was polite and helped a lot. They had a crafts room where they do arts and crafts, had outdoor recreation, and things of that nature. The dining area was nice, their food looked catered.

First, the food is terrible; the facility is short staffed. minimal facilities, no amenities to speak of. very few people to talk with or socialize with. Would not recommend unless you are well down the dementia curve.

My mother is cared for and the workers know her and give her help and assistance. When I call the nurses are attentive to my mother's needs and they are respectful with me on the phone. They are cooperative. They are accommodating. Activities become personalized. When visiting was available, I was welcomed. The bedrooms with roommates are on the small size. Need names on everything even dentures and glasses. They have music and art and social activities.

Canterbury Place has all levels of care, including a memory unit. The location is convenient because it's near a lot of things. There's a nice chapel inside the building, it's really pretty. The problem was there were no apartments available. That's probably why the person who gave me the tour seemed rushed and not very engaged in getting more clients.

Canterbury Place is nice, and the staff is fine. My wife's room is clean, spacious, and comfortable, and she likes the food. The place is well-run and clean.

The room at Canterbury Place was not very impressive. Their food was buffet-style, not restaurant-style, and they had very limited activities. The staff was excellent.

I helped my good friend look for a place and we found Canterbury Place. She's in there now. I was impressed the first time I went there. I liked the idea that I wasn't being rushed. I also felt that there's a sense of family there. I liked the idea that it's very, very secure. I speak very highly of this place and told other friends of mine who are looking for a place for their parents.

The therapists were great. The location is convenient. The building is pretty. The food is horrible. Effective but not a Pleasant place to visit. Double rooms are really unpleasant and it is a shame that they are still used anywhere. My father was there after a stroke and he did recover well and I was able to bring him home eventually after having moved him to the assisted living facility upstairs. He simply could not tolerate the food. The assisted living was not great, but really no worse than other places we tried in the city. The aids are unpleasant but that seems to be the unfortunate norm.
