My dad is in a senior living right now called Brookdale Penn Hills. Over the years that he has been there, if there have been any problems, they communicate very well with me and help me to solve any problems that they come up with him. He's taken care of very well, and the people that work there are really kind. Everything is clean. The food is good. They also have an outdoor patio where there's a garden, and they have an outdoor porch on the front. They always have something going on there. They have bingo, they do crafts, and they have guests that come in. It's not as expensive as some places are, and I think it's a very good value. And it looks like a little home inside.

Brookdale Penn Hills was very small. They only had 24 residents and there were no men, which is not unusual. But they had no empty suites, too. They seemed to have a lot of activities. We had no food there, but they did make us coffee, and that's when we sat down with the manager and went through all the information. He asked if he could put our names on sort of a waiting list. At that point, I didn't have a problem with it, but that would not be a choice. The building itself looked like a big yellow ranch house with rocking chairs on the porch. I think they only had 10 parking spaces in the parking lot. And when we asked the manager, 'You don't seem to have a lot of parking here, even for visitors.' He explained that they had an overflow parking area, but we didn't investigate that. The manager was a very nice gentleman. He knew what he was presenting. We also met with a woman that was in charge of the activities. They had quite a few of the members in the room, and they were playing some kind of a game. They were engaged. They also showed us the single room and the one-double suite that they had. It's assisted living, it's not independent, so you're not going to have an apartment, you're just going to have a room with beds in it, that kind of set-up. I think what overwhelmed me was just the smallness of the community. There wasn't a lot of space where you could go sit by yourself or listen to music or read a book if you didn't want to be in your room.

I toured Brookdale Penn Hills. Mike was very personable and very knowledgeable. He showed me around the whole facility and a sample room and how the setup was with my mom. They were doing some activity, so I got to see a little bit of what they had going on at the facility. It had a very personable, friendly atmosphere. I did not have a meal, but they said they had a personal cook on staff that made meals fresh, which I liked.

Brookdale Penn Hills was very, very nice, but their prices were extremely expensive. Their facility was clean. They were well-staffed. I looked at their menu. I didn't get a chance to try their food but when I went there, the food smelled so good. The residents were very nice. Their exercise program was good. Their activities were good. They had a nice courtyard where the people could go outside and sit in. It was beautiful there.

I like that Brookdale Penn Hills was clean. I like that the staff seemed friendly and I like that it's close to where I live at. The atmosphere seemed nice. The staff during the tour was very polite and very informative, and they helped me with anything that I asked. They gave you the schedule of what they had as far as their food, where they eat, how they treat people, how they help them go to make their appointments, their room, and stuff like that. The dining hall was big and it was bright and the furniture was nice. They are pet friendly. They have a beauty salon. The highlight of the tour was the building itself and the people.

My mom will be going to Brookdale Penn Hills, and we're very happy with our decision. It's very small, felt very much like home, and the staff was incredible. They told me about their activities. The staff was very helpful, they were informative, they answered all of my questions, and they were just very pleasant. The facilities were very clean and very nice, it's nicely kept, it's a very pleasant environment. They have a beauty salon, and a spa, they have a patio seating area that's nice, and they've supplied raised bed gardens for the residents to plant vegetables in. It's a serene setting, the setting is very, very pretty.

I looked at Brookdale Penn Hills. It's a smaller facility than the other one I toured, they only take like 25 people. But it's very, very pleasant and very friendly. The person I talked to, whose name was Jill, was very accommodating, very pleasant, and forthcoming as to their services. They were getting to play bingo when we were there. I thought the rooms were a nice size, they accommodate a queen bed, which was surprising. A person looking for a smaller facility would probably like Brookdale.

We are going with Brookdale Penn Hills. My mom really enjoyed them, so that's why we thought we would give it a try. The tour went very, very well. The manager, Mike, was wonderful. He was able to answer any questions and showed us everything. We were very pleased. The staff was very pleasant. The facility was very clean, very nice, and very welcoming. The location was very convenient. The menu seemed very nice. Unfortunately, my mom is on a special diet, so I don't know if she'll be able to eat that. She is on a pureed soft diet, so they are going to accommodate that. There are activities and scheduled things for them to do. There is an outside courtyard. There are a lot of things for them to do.

We would have preferred Brookdale Penn Hills but they did not have the lanyard or the ability to control the temperature in the individual rooms. Those were two things that my mother-in-law wanted. It's assisted living and it was a smaller facility so we like it. They only had about 20 residents but they had the same number of staff so the ratio of staff to residents was higher. The dining room looked inviting. The facility itself was just smaller and easier to navigate. One of the residents, unprompted by anybody, carried on a conversation with us during the tour and told us how happy they were that they were living there so those types of things made us like it. It was also clean, inviting, updated, and there were no odors. It looked well-maintained.

Brookdale Penn Hills was a very nice place. Everything I saw I liked. It's on one floor, had great parking, and it's easy to access. The staff was very wonderful, professional, and very informative. They had a salon. Everything that they have was nice. It would be someplace that I would consider based on the presentation. It felt like home and it looked clean. I didn't smell anything coming in the door, which is a good thing. The only thing was the cost. I didn't know it was gonna cost that much. The dining room was spacious, everything was clean, and people were helping out a lot of different residents, which was nice. Everybody seemed happy. The food smelled good.

I visited Brookdale Penn Hills for my grandfather. It was very clean and very nice. I did not interact much with the staff, except the salesperson, but he was very helpful and friendly.

My mother is a resident at this community. The building is small and clean. It’s truly a family setting. They run with 2 staff per shift but they work like hell! They provide all care and housekeeping duties to my mother. My mother loves it there. The staff is friendly and attentive.

I looked at Brookdale and didn’t like it at all. When you go in, a lady in the room doesn't speak or do anything. The community is made up of really old people. If your mom is able to hold a conversation, that’s not going to be a place that you should want her to go because there’s very few people that can even hold a conversation. The price was fine, but my mom needs to be around people who are able to speak. The other thing is its very small and there’s nothing to do. There’s only 12 rooms. You can go down one little hall, turn around and go down another hall. It’s very tight.

Sterling House of Penn Hills is just a great place. It's small, but very clean. The people are very caring, loving, and compassionate; couldn't be nicer. Her room has a bed and a chair. They have two activity coordinators. They showed movies to the residents, and they have arts and crafts. Sunday was my mother's 101st birthday, and we had a party for her. I'm very lucky I found them, and they take excellent care of her. It's better for her there than here at home.

Sterling house was a small facility and the rooms were lovely. Mom stayed there for three weeks. The staff was absolutely, incredibly wonderful. It has more of a homelike feel than one of the bigger ones. They had an activity director that came in, they played cards, they had entertainer come in and he sang and put on little shows for the people. They also had taken them all out to lunch on a bus. The food was wonderful.

My parent is still at Sterling House. We want to move him. Even though it is ASSISTED Living, they want to change more and more for everything they assist with. Bathing, getting dressed, pushing wheel chair to cafeteria, etc. When he first came there 2 years ago, everything was good. It has gone downhill. In the evening there are only 2 people around. What if there was an extreme emergency or a fire. I thought that Assisted meant that they helped the residents. Would not reccommend.

I have a chance to visit Sterling House of Penn Hills for my grandmother. They were very friendly there and very accommodating. They were under construction so I don't know that this is a true evaluation because I thought it was dirty. The rooms were small. I was there right after dinner and too many people were just sitting around and staring. They didn't seem to have any activities at that time. When I toured this facility, a woman kept saying, 'I'm going to pee my pants, I'm going to pee my paints ' and the head nurse who was giving me the tour, she never even acknowledged that lady. I didn't want that to be my grandmother sitting there and you are crying out for help because you're in a wheelchair and can't move and you're not even acknowledged. That right there turned me off. They did say they do have activities, but the head nurse didn't have an activity calendar to show me.

Sterling House has been excellent to my mom. We're really happy with where she's at and so is she. My sister who lives near the facility sees her almost every day. All the care has been excellent and the staff is very attentive. The atmosphere is homey and they make it out to be that way. They're really doing a very fine job.

I thought this facility was very clean and well staffed, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The location of this facility was very convenient as well, as it was close to major roadways and easy to find. One thing my grandparents really liked about this facility was that they have a personalized assisted living program. They could choose what types of assistance they needed, programs they wanted to participate in, what type of living facilities they needed, etc. They also liked that this facility offered lots of different activities, including movie nights, outings, shopping, etc.I did not care for some of the decorations throughout the facility. That was my one major drawback, is that looks wise, it felt a bit cramped and institutional. But overall, this facility is very nice.
