I moved into Friends Home in Kennett, and it's been a very positive experience. It's not real modern, and the building I'm in was built in the early 1800s. Kenneth Square is a lovely small town, and everybody is so nice and welcoming. I'm very pleased. I have a beautiful apartment. It's a lovely place, not inexpensive, but affordable. The move-in fee is very low. I recommend it highly. They provide three meals, and the food is quite good and quite healthy. The dining room is like a restaurant, which is lovely, and it has nice tablecloths. They're gradually changing most of the flooring in most of the places. They have independent living, assisted living, a nursing home, and hospice care. They bend over backward to take care of everybody. They're still replacing the carpeting in the walkway up to where my apartment is, and they've just redone the kitchen. They're upgrading it gradually. Most of the activities are geared toward the assisted care, but they have excursions. The staff is great.

My mother is going to Friends Home in Kennett. The director was very nice. They had a nice front porch. The staff during the tour seemed very upbeat and knew a lot about Kennett Square. They have little outings from time to time. They have a beauty parlor. When we walked around, we only saw one other person there. Then my mom went for a luncheon at a later date. She said the people were friendly enough. The whole place needs updating. It's an old building. They just put new elevators in. The dining area was kind of old. The facility looked pretty clean. I'm kind of surprised my mom chose this place, but she is just going to go for a month and try it out. I wouldn't choose it for myself. Her room is just a simple one little room with a bathroom and it has no kitchenette, refrigerator, or microwave, nothing like that.

I had been to Friends Home in Kennett to tour it. It's convenient. It's right in the middle of town, it's not too far from the senior center, and it's not too far from my son. I haven't met any of the staff except for the lady that shows you around the place, and she was very helpful. The amenities they offer are meals and laundry. I also saw the salon and the courtyard. I think the upkeep was pretty good. I'm only good for one bedroom, plus I don't need anything else, but it was adequate. In terms of location, they got a lot of restaurants up and down the street. They got all kinds of little hospitals and then they got the big hospital.

I have visited Friends Home in Kennett several times, and every time I leave, I feel absolutely wonderful. The staff and residents are wonderful. It is different from some others because it is an old mansion built by the Quakers in the 1800’s. It is a wonderful, very warm, very caring, and very loving place. You don’t get that feeling in one of those big corporations that are just going to suck you dry. The staff members work there because they want to and they like it. It is a great place. My mom is not in there yet, but she will be next week. I don’t foresee having any problems. It is going to be a good place.

The staff at Friends Home in Kennett was lovely. I spoke with some of the residents who seemed to be content. However, the facility was very old. It's an old historic building, but it had a real homey feel to it, like 1930s homey, and it does need a lot of updates. I spoke briefly with the nursing director. I was happy to see that there was a lot of involvement and presence from the nursing staff. They had a lovely dining room. The place seemed bright and cheery. In terms of staff, they could get a high rating, but physically, it was a little shabby. I was told that they could not accommodate wheelchairs. My mother has mobility issues and uses a walker. Because the facility itself is so old, they can't widen the hallways. They've been very gracious and patient and answered questions, but I just couldn't see my mom living at this place because the facility was limited. It would be more accommodating for people without mobility issues, are completely ambulatory without a wheelchair, or without walkers.

We used Friends Home in Kennett for my mom’s respite care. It was very good, and we were quite happy with it. Everything, including the food, was quite good. The amenities were excellent, the cost was outstanding, and it was close to home. Everything we wanted was there. We’re quite happy with the choice and would go there again and recommend it to others.

It was very nice, and my mother enjoyed being there. But just because it was a very old building, the feeling was she would probably be in a wheelchair and they were really not set up for wheelchair accessibility. It was farther from us, so we felt that it would be better if she would be closer. When she went there, she was a person seeking independent living, and they had a nursing station downstairs, but the people there were expected to come and go pretty much on their own and in that way it was fine until she fell. It was a very friendly environment; it was very much like a small town, and the people were like small-town people. The staff was very friendly, but we didn’t have much interaction with them because mother was living independently. We were very satisfied with it.

My grandmother has been at this facility for over 3 years and we have never had any problems. The staff is excellent. They are always kind and friendly, and very understanding when we bring my grandma home late! They also call to inform us if my grandmother is sick or behaving strangely, like not eating. They always keep us in the loop. The facility is small, but it has a comforting, community feel to it. Each room is a single with closet room and a bathroom. The facility also allows residents to bring in their own furniture like chairs and dressers if they want to. The facility also has a spacious wrap-around deck with lots of chairs. The lawn and garden beds are well kept, and it is a beautiful place to sit in the spring and summer. They also have lots of activities throughout the week to keep residents entertained, like holiday parties, craft days, and musical groups that come to perform. Overall Friends Home is a fantastic facility.
