My Father-in-Law was deteriorating from ALZ. We needed a safe place for him to live with dignity. He used to be afraid all them time. At Arden Courts he was always cared for. He looked presentable, he was never afraid. He was a very proud man, even with dementia. The staff were amazing and supported him all the way until the end. When Hospice was there, so many staff came to say their goodbyes to him. He was cared for until the end.

Arden Courts of Allentown needed maintenance work done to it. There were no private showers in the room, which was a turn-off. It was the director of physical activities that gave the tour. So, it wasn't the normal person that would do it, so it was lacking.

Keeping My Special Mom Safe

When my Mom’s condition rapidly deteriorated, I was forced to make an almost overnight decision on where to place her. One of her doctors recommended I visit Arden Courts of Allentown. I did so and was very impressed with both the community and the staff. Without visiting any other facility, I chose to move my Mom to Arden and, after two years, have never regretted that decision. Arden is a very bright and cheerful property with absolutely no resemblance to an institutional facility. Residents have their own private room with private bathroom. Other amenities include a beauty parlor and a community room with ongoing activities. In addition, access is available to two nicely-furnished courtyards where residents can relax outside with family and other visitors. Having said all that, I must say that my number one decision in choosing Arden was the staff. From the Executive Director to the kitchen staff, they are a very professional and caring group of people who treat the residents like family. What more could I (and my Mom) ask for.

Most of the caregivers are great! Very caring towards the residents. However, they are always short staffed and the nurses are rude. They seem to not care about the caregivers or residents. Also, I've had family talk to the director about different problems and they never get resolved. Management seems to not care about the residents at all. I really feel bad for the caregivers and all of the work that they do for little pay and for as much as my mother pays a month....where does the money go? To the bosses who do nothing all day. What a shame.

Some of the staff is great, but some are not. It's clear the upper management does not treat the staff that actually looks after the residents very well at all. The place is generally understaffed leaving residents with much less assistance than is assumed by families. The head nurse is great but other than another male nurse, the nurses are horrible. They make it clear it is only their job and do not go beyond this. There is little compassion and one of the younger nurses in a more supervisory role is downright rude, uncaring and completely self absorbed. The conduct of some of the staff such as this nurse somewhat outweighs the few decent staff for the very hefty price that you pay. The place is not overly clean either, possibly again a symptom of understaffing. There reception seems to not have any problem with staffing though and the older head receptionist is great. Based on the care received I would not recommend this place if your family member needs a lot of assistance because they are not offering what they advertise for and what you would be paying for.

It was very hard to place my mother into a home but after visiting Arden Courts I was reassured this was the best place for her to be . Very loving and caring caregivers. It took a few weeks, but then my mother became adapted. I finally be relaxed that she was safe and I didnt have to worry. I knew that this would be my mothers new home.
