My sister has been a resident for 2+ years at Rose Valley. Because of her need for more advanced care she will be leaving. Everyone from the manger to the day to day staff, the care was excellent. The were pleasant, helpful, and went out of their way to do extras for the residents. I cannot say enough good things about the staff. They have buses to take residents to medical visits, supermarkets, Walmart, and different activities. As someone who has been in the medical field for 55+ years and eaten institution food, the food is good. The food is not home cooking, but good. They have coffee, juice, fresh fruit and chips throughout the day. If you will be gone during meals, dietary will make you something to to go. Lastly, it is the caring staff, that I and my sister will miss.

Brookdale Rose Valley Scappoose was very nice. The food was really good. The layout was great. The rooms were very light and airy. The light was good. They were very nice. It was a little nicer than the other facility. The community was a little bit more alert as a group They had a lot of ladies that were communicating well in the cafeteria, and they seemed to be having a good time. They had a nice library, a pool table, and a puzzle room. I thought it was very nice, and in fact, I told them if Mom chooses to move, I would like her to go there. The staff was really helpful and very good. He answered all our questions. We had a lot of questions, and he was very good. The nurse was good. The kitchen staff was very nice and accommodating. Mom is very picky. We all went to lunch there, and the food was excellent. Mom said the food was cold and wasn't very good, but my sister and I both thought it was good. She had salmon and I had the chicken cordon blue. We tried to mix it up, so we had a variety to try, and it was good.

I live in Brookdale in Scappoose. In the four years that I have lived here, there have been 3 different ownerships. Brookdale is the most recent. Because of the budget limitation and what-not, there is a continual shortage of staff, and what we see is burnout because they have to work a lot of overtime and double for other people and what-not; it is a very tough situation that way. But they have concentrated a lot on the food, and they have tried to go more as if you were dining out in a fine restaurant. Brookdale is a small place. We have 15 independent cottages, and those are very nice with good floor plan -- e.g., 2 beds and 2 baths and a single car garage that feeds right into the kitchen so when you bring in your grocery, it is very handy. Even though the maintenance man is very efficient, he has a lot to take care of. Up in the main facility, there are at least 60 people plus the 15 cottages to maintain and only one man to do it. Of course, when the room changes or the cottage changes residents, it has to be all completely gone over -- e.g., re-cleaned and all of that. It is really an extreme load. Now the rates on the cottages are going up the first of the month, and that will be an extra $150 per cottage, so I'm hoping with that increase in income that they will be able to hire some more people. Brookdale is the most reasonable in price. It has less amenities as far as exercise facilities or golf courses or swimming pool. It is a pretty basic place. They have a good activities director.

We went to Rose Valley (Brookdale Rose Valley Scappoose). The staff was very nice and very informative. Their accommodations are small retirement cottages. Their dining room looked like a very nice dining room, but we didn't feel like the food would be something that we would be completely satisfied with. We preferred to be some place where we have a little bit more choice in what we eat. However, we like the location of it because it is in the town that we live in. The location is what we like the best, but they need to have more variety or more choices in the food.

The cottages at Emeritus were really nice. It's just that the arrangement of the windows in some of the rooms didn't work out well with my furniture, and I would have had to drive everywhere when I wanted to see people and do things. I liked their cottages, especially since they had oversized garages, which would have been nice for extra storage.

Rose Valley Campus is a really nice facility. It is very clean. My mom is in a one-bedroom unit, but they also have some studio apartments that are almost the same size as the one-bedroom units. They are very clean and each room got a good view of either the mountains or the courtyard that they have there. She has her own bathroom and it is a really big bathroom, which is really nice. The people that are working there are very kind and helpful. They just really take care of my mom. They also have great food there. With your rent there, you have a call button that comes with it and you can wear it as a bracelet or a necklace around your neck so that any time any where you go in the facility, if you need someone, you just press that button.

I was very impressed with the facility. The first thing I noticed was how clean and inviting it was. The rooms were large and well laid out. The staff was well educated and very friendly. The ratio of staff to residents was pretty high and they had medical professionals on staff 24 hours a day. They took us on a tour of the lounge and dining rooms which were also clean and very inviting. The kitchen was nice with all of the up to date equipment. They held daily activities for the residents which included bingo, game and movie time. There was a modern library that was free for the residents to use whenever they wanted. They were also allowed to check out books and movies to use in their rooms. We talked to the activities manager who plans outings such as shopping trips and other fun activities. Another thing I likes about this facility was that they were conveniently located near the center of town. When the time comes, I would definitely trust them with my mother.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. They took everything very seriously and didn't treat me like i was stupid. Many of the places i have visted made me feel less than human. The facilities were kept clean and organized. There was pletty of events run through the establishment that people staying there could participate in. Over all, I really enjoyed my visit.
