I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband spent 19 days at this facility, he lost 17 pounds during his stay, promises he would have food he enjoyed, nothing was offered My treats and daily newspapers were not given to him, but were packed up to go home. The changes of clothing were never used, sent home they way they arrived, clean and folded. No return of phone calls from Director. Upon his day of release, I was called and told he had lost 17 pounds and they were concerned I would be upset When released he came home in filthy clothes he lived in for 19 days, his body odor was so bad, even having the windows and sunroof open could not cut the stench. This is no place for a human to reside much less regain some strength, if I could give it a 0 I would! There are far better choices. One last question…where are the state inspectors?

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad is at West Hills Health and Rehabilitation. The staff is very caring, and they do everything they can to make him comfortable. They try to get him to participate in activities that are suitable for him. The place is clean, and it seems like a friendly place. Dad has a roommate in his bedroom, and it has a nice view of the courtyard. It is small but it has closets, a TV and a nightstand for each resident, and then a shared bathroom. They have quite a few daily activities and field trips, and I think they have 3 activities a day. My dad is doing candy bingo, movies, music, and exercises.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother is in West Hills Health and Rehabilitation. The staff is very attentive in what they have to do. If your loved one is towards the end of their lives, it's certainly a good place to be. The rooms are small, but adequate and clean. They try very hard with the activities to keep the senior population very active as much as they can. Most of the people at that age are really limited, so they do a lot of coloring and crafts. If the weather's nice, they take them outside and let them work in the garden. The staff couldn't be any more caring.

I am/was a resident of this facility

The room was ok. Basic. View of parking lot and construction. I think it had been unused for a while; the toilet was filthy when I arrived. 2/3 of the room was constantly shadowed even in bright daylight and purely dark at night, as only one above bed light fixture was provided. HOWEVER... The staff were amazing. Caring, careful, compassionate. The food was surprisingly delicious and varied. The campus is beautiful. Everything was done with CoVid-19 safety precautions in mind.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

We have used the services of this facility many times, it is my first choice of places to go. Our rooms have always been clean, the views magnificent. We found the staff members to be very helpful. They tend to be a bit short-handed so sometimes you might have to ask for things or remind them but they are good about it. They allowed me to stay past visiting hours to be with my husband and to help him, this was nice because he had dimentia and often had the most confusion at night. There were always a variety of activities to take part in; singing, games, exercises with balloons, art, etc., all sorts of fun things. The food was very good too. When there were things that we didn't like, most of the time we could ask for and get substitutions. For a small price I could eat with my husband. This is a really special place.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I cannot even express how disappointed I was by the care received by my father at West Hills. When my seventy year old father left OHSU, he could walk and feed himself and had full mental capacity but, after 20 days here, he was nearly dead. And in fact, 6 days after we removed him from their care, he died. The short version is that this place is terribly under-staffed and, while some are good-hearted, the staff that they do have is completely overwhelmed. Weekends here were especially terrible- they go down to bare bones staff, and thus every resident is ignored except for meds/food delivery. Examples of the lack of attention: my father spilled a drink on his sheets, and they did not change the sheets until FIVE DAYS later, when I literally chased a nurse down a hall and begged her. Also, while they offer a "menu," they consistently ignored my father's choices and brought him random meals. He didn't want to complain, so he wouldn't eat them, and I'd find out the next day when I would visit and see a full tray of food. Another thing: the place was infested with scabies while my dad was a resident, so that was just one more thing that kept the already overwhelmed nursing staff busy. And finally, one more insult to our family from this place: we paid upfront for my father's care because they told us that Medicare wouldn't cover it. I found out later that medicare DID cover part of it and, even though I called and emailed their business office 7 times, they will not return my calls or send me the itemized bill that I requested. The one last cherry on top? Even though we paid them 9 grand for 20 days of care, and then Medicare paid them an additional 2 grand, today my dead father received an additional bill in the mail from them... keep in mind that I informed them of his death 3 months ago. I strongly recommend that you avoid this place- it's clear that the management is only running this center to maximize profits. I feel terrible for trusting them with the care of my father.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father was a resident there for two years. It was a constant battleto keep him and his room clean. Always excuses.. Hundreds of dollars worth of clothing was always amiss and always it was blamed on laundry. After two years the stilled served him food he did not like and that was on his chart of "nots". I met the director one time. She never participated in the quarterly care conferences and I feel that should have been part of her job. After all it starts at the top. I felt her leadership role was definately lacking. There were a couple of good nurses and I felt sorry for them that they were trying and the others were such slackers. Again,, the head person was not showing leadership skills. They tell you what you want to hear at a difficult time. I lost my dad in May and I still feel strongly that their lack of care was his final demise.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My husband was in West Hills Health & Rehabilitation Center. This was where he got a bone infection; they did not take care of him. A social worker told me, "If you do not want to stay, you can just leave." The room he was in was hot. They were not good. He had physical therapy, which was very good.
