I visited our neighbor here in Memory care. The residents were not being attended to and the whole building reeked of urine. I would not recommend this facility, and I think it's really sad our elderly are treated like this!

The tour experience at East Cascade Retirement Community was good. The people seemed friendly. The facility seemed clean. From what we saw from the food that was being served, it looked like it was homemade and not processed stuff. We were there for 45 minutes, and from what we saw, we thought it looked pretty good. We looked at a studio and a one-bedroom. They covered all the assisted living services, like bathing, toileting, and dressing. It looked like they had a garden that you could plant. You could dine in your room, or you could dine in the dining room. They would tailor menus according to diet. They have activities. They have a bus that would take people to places if they needed to. There were a variety of things to choose from.

I would not recommend this place to anyone at any level of life under any circumstances. My mother lived in both the Skilled Nursing Facility and the Assisted Living having lost her battle with apparent old age not too long ago. At first glance, the entire establishment, 6 buildings in all including Memory Care, appears charming and clean, well set up with some sort of promise. After a horrendous 2020 amid COVID-19, they can be credited with trying to improve since new leadership took over early 2021 but have consistently lost old staff and new alike, as in hired today and quit with no warning next week. Repeatedly. Who pays for this? The residents. They have lost new administrators in all buildings, necessary nurses at the drop of a hat and interim fill-in higher ups are on a revolving basis. Speaking now about Skilled Nursing only, the staff is doing the best they can, at least they will tell you that, but it is not good enough when there are not enough to go around. While true that during the age of COVID-19 healthcare workers are overwhelmed Nationwide, I watched as resident after resident would die and less new ones ones would be admitted because they did not have enough staff to care for them. Not enough time, cutting corners with food, helping residents to eat, drink, , bathing, moving around, regular hygiene, proper meds, with no activity director, and sporadic to zero physical therapists. Hospice workers saw this. In fact Hospice pointed it out to me. And the present residents were still there to be under-cared for. The one or two staff running their tails off needed help, which blessedly did show up in temporary fashion here and there, long enough to admit a couple new residents, then repeat the process of being under staffed again. Our small family was on the phone with DHS and Ombudsman regularly about inadequate care from understaffing but those outlets were equally over-worked and I was actually told by my mother's case manager I needed more people to join with me in my complaints. So be forewarned - if you are considering placing a loved one here, ask questions about staffing issues. Then ask more questions. And then even more. And have a big family to back you up or keep on top of what is going on around the clock. Thank You for reading. Blessings

The patients they prefer in the memory facility are those that are basically not mobile so they don't have to help them. My father has fallen 5 times in 2 months with 4 of them resulting in a hospital visit -- the last one included staples on the scalp. Facility is dirty and the director very disorganized. I spent 3 hours cleaning the rug because they had not done any cleaning prior to move in. Very, very disappointing.
