I had reservations about my daughter being in a nursing home but since there I have found everyone there to be extremely supportive and a pleasure to work with. It's a very relaxing environment and the cna's have done a great job of making sure she recovers and has what she needs. The administrators there I think have gone overboard to help in transitions by making phone calls, and talking with me to help in anyway they can. The physical therapy she was there for was great and she is walking better than she was.

The rooms are a bit run down but very clean. The food is not great. The staff is very kind and responsive when asked to help with something. My husband has been a resident there for the past six weeks.

Items that he had when my friend was admitted have disappeared and they have made no offer to locate or replace. This is outright theft.

My husband was admitted, under hospice care, on July 24th. He died July 30th. I WOULDN'T TAKE A DOG HERE!! Staff I met seemed to care ... but they appeared to be woefully under-staffed. The facility is in such a run-down condition ... not like it used to be. Due to Covid restrictions, I was not allowed to visit him the first 2 days - - they were "revising the visitor policy". Had to wait until Monday to see if and when I could visit him. When I went in on Monday, (outside temps were running in triple-digits), there was NO AIR CONDITIONING in his room! I was told there was AC in the hall, and the door was left open. Never received an answer as to why no AC. I asked for a fan - - they didn't have one! I had to go buy one and bring it back. Covid visitation restrictions: Residents could have only window visits. However - Hospice patients could have 1 visit per day, 1 hour per visit. And if actively passing, you could be there as much as needed. Fast-forward to July 30th. Received call from facility nurse: my husband had had such a dramatic overnight change, and she didn't believe he'd last until the week-end. I was with him for 6 hours (and his sister came for a couple hours also from out of town). Hospice nurse said probably wouldn't pass until Monday. We left at about 3:00, to go get a some lunch. I'd said I'd be back - no comments came back to me. I returned at about 5 pm. They would NOT let me back in! Even though my husband was actively passing, it didn't matter to them. Staff was very rude, very cold to my request to be with my husband. As I was finally walking back to my car, I was told in a very snippy, sing-song voice "Have a nice day!" He passed at 7:25pm - - ALONE!! I wasn't notified until 8:28pm - by the hospice nurse. A friend came with me back to the nursing home. We entered wearing masks; our temps were taken, and that was it. No other protocols were followed - - no health questions - - did not have to gown up or put gloves on - - went unescorted to his room. (There's more that happened, but this review would REALLY become a book!) Repeated requests to speak to the administrator, Megan, were ignored. Until today, not a call, no contact has been made. This place is so poorly run. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. There's no communication evident with the staff. They DON'T KNOW what the proper protocol is. And management has NO HEART! That place is just being treated like a cash cow!!

If you love your family, DO NOT take them to this facility. I work for a fellow hospital and was less than impressed with the communication and abilities of (or lack thereof) the staff. I called diligently every day to make contact with the nurse that was taking care of my aunt, I would be transferred to lines that were seemingly unattended and never answered. I even called to the administrators in order to get some sort of information relayed back me as promised, and still nothing. 5 different people told me they would assure I got a call of some sort, and no contact was ever made. When I arrived at the facility, I was rudely questioned about what I was doing there and received very little help to get to my aunt's room. She was in her death bed on hospice, and as I spent 6 hours there at her bedside, not a single person came to reposition her or make sure she was clean and dry. All in all, I am very disappointed with all aspects of this facility and wish no one to suffer at the Highland house. Incompetency and misunderstandings is what you CAN expect.

We had to place our 95 year old Aunt M. in this facility thinking we had one of the better 'homes' in the area. WE DIDN'T!!! I feel so awful that we had her here as long as we did. She was routinely ignored. Lost weight even when we said she needs help eating and can't feed herself. Her medications got mixed up from what she had been taking. I went in there twice and it was FREEZING! I went out and bought warmer blankets and jackets for her. Then they finally fixed the heater.I would not recommend this place and for the prices they charge, I'm thinking someone is making big money but it's not the staff and it should be!

The care or the lack of is horrific. This place is surprisingly still open! The smell of urine/feces is so overwhelming. I observed how long lights were on for patient help, way to long. (I understand the fall rate is out of control.) They leave the elderly on toilets for far too long. Which Inturn causes falls. Staff walks right by patients asking for help not even to acknowledge them. You can't get ANY help from the front desk, they avoid any eye contact, when asked anything, they don't have a clue. Several doc appts. Had to be cancelled due to fasting not being done. I was told "they are rough with me". Hygiene is bad, these people need help, restorative therapy was ordered by doctor only two sessions happened. The only time I have been approached or called is due to a fall or something Financial. Food and money has been taken from patients room, along with all the missing clothes and personal items. I have to write this place less than a one and then looking for a new facility

Our mother was transferred from the hospital to Highland House for the physical therapy. I asked the nurse to put an alarm on my mother or her bed because she was wanting to get up, they didn't and she fell. Food was horrible so we often brought her outside food. Physical therapy for the 10 days we were there and the main reason we went was non existent. Some days they didn't come, others were just for a few minutes. Only one day that I was aware of did they actually take her to the therapy room. It be interesting to see the actual bill for the "therapy". The CNA's work extremely hard and they did all they could. We decided to get her out of their asap. We we reassured by the social service director that they would order the wheelchair and get transportation to another her facility. We even made a specific trip to her office to confirm this was done. She said Everything was ready. She didn't do either one. We didn't find out until 5:00 the night before her release that the transportation wasn't taken care of as promised. I thought I would follow up with a phone call to the transportation co. To confirm the pick up. He said it was the first time he had heard if it. Luckily he had only a 9:00 am slot available, we took it. Administration gets a bit of an attitude if you are planning on leaving so be careful and make sure everything is in order. We had heard that the lady in social services doesn't do what she says she'll do. The house Dr. Is absolutely wonderful, along with the hardworking CNA's. It's close to 9000.00 a month for room and board not including nursing and physical therapy. You really have to stay 24/7 to be sure they are eating, being taken to the bathroom in a reasonable time and getting the prescribed meds on time, especially when the patient can't speak for themselves. My mother-in-law had the same experience at Royale Gardens as far as needing to stay to be sure she had adequate care. They had an extremely hard time getting her mother out of there, they were really pushing to put her mother on Medicaid. Anyhow, I would not recommend Highland House or Royale Gardens since they are owned by the same company. I will thank the CNA's and the on staff Dr for everything they did.

My dad stayed in Highland House for a short time. It was recommended by a nurse from the hospital. They were shorthanded and they don't seem to have much specialized care. The food is terrible. It was just not good and I wouldn't recommend it. They need more people to work there.

After my 87 year old Mother broke her shoulder in a late evening bathroom runin which she fell. Her Doctor ordered two to six weeks of in house rehabilitation and gave us two choices covered by her health insurance in our local area. We chose Highland House as others we know have stayed there.Highland House located in North Grants Pass is a unique long or short stay assisted living facility and rehabilitation center having both private and shared rooms. Two lovely apartment type rooms are available to prepare a person for leaving for home. My Mom was going to stay in one for a few days, so we were able to view it; it was just wonderful as it resembled a small studio with a complete kitchen. The decorating was amazing with a very large wood antique bed frame with frillywhite lacy bedding! They have gone to extremes in every aspect for this inexpensive in comparison assisted living facility. When we first entered the center we were greeted by several of the residents sitting in the living room area decorated warmly including leather furniture; I have heard they decorate it beautifully for each Holiday. My mother arrived late in the afternoon and was not too pleased, but under heavy medication. I was very observant as this was my first experience with my mother being placed in what she called prior to her stay, a Nursing HomeAnd well, we all hear horror stories right. Mom was shone her shared room, introduced to the lady she would be sharing with and admitted to the assisted living facility by a very welcoming nurse.During this hour everything seemed to be quite busy and there were some red flags such as one of the nurses left a syringe on my mothers bedside table that belonged to her last patient. That was horrible and I was scared to death and quickly drew it to the head nurses attention. This being the worst thing that happened in the weeks she was there. Our family members took turns daily to be there with her so she would feel comfortable while getting the rehabilitation she needed.Daily we watched the nurses in their kindness attending to needs such as bathroom. Being busy sometimes the residents were left longer than they wanted in the restrooms. I asked my Mom daily about such things. She would tell me overall things were good, but she did get left in the bathroom one time; too long, in her opinion. Meals looked very good there and the choice to go to the dining room was always an option with or without help from a CNA or a guide. The center has framed art work done by the residents in each of the hallways. Each hallway has a theme with names such as Tulip wayto help the resident and others find their way around to places such as the dining room which doubles for several of their activities such as church meetings, fiddle playing, singing and crafts. In this same hallway is a beauty salon which did a pretty good job on my Moms hair with a quick spur of the moment appointment. I did not like having Mom away; however feel that she received the care she needed at Highland House and over all would recommend it and feel it was a positive experience for us.
