I visited Fairmont Skilled Nursing & Therapy, a skilled nursing facility, and they were wonderful. If I ever have to be in a skilled nursing facility, I will go there. I like the staff, the food, the activity director, and the social worker. I couldn't say enough good things about them. You couldn't smell anything except fresh air and it's wonderful. The physical therapists were great and they did the therapies right there. The facility was so well-kept and clean. Everything, even the courtyards and the flowerbeds, was good. I was so impressed. The food was also fabulous, it was really good. The dietician in the cafeteria was good, too. It had the best hospital food I've ever seen. There was a huge breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausages, biscuits, gravy, and oatmeal. Every day there's juice, milk, and coffee. Lunches were great, too and you could order off the menu. It was good and I didn't want to leave. It's also less expensive than most of the others around this area.

If you can find another place for your loved one, please do so. Unfortunately I had to place my father in this facility and one of the nurses was so rude and uncaring that it was rediculous. When I went to the administration to complain, I did not even have to tell them who I was referring to, but they knew who it was. That is a problem. They are supposed to be there to care for the patients, not to sit on their butts and gossip. My dad hated it there and deteriorated after only about 3 days there. There was no sense of urgency for the care of the patients. When my father had an emergency and was rushed to the hospital, the administration told me that they would store his belongings and would make sure that his things were secure. When I contacted them about his belongings, I was told that they could not locate his belongings, that included his brand new wheelchair. I still have not been paid for his stuff yet.

We visited Grace Living Center-northwest, and we chose it because they're the only place that takes Alzheimer's patients. We were sent there, we liked it, the administrator, Chuck, was very accommodating, gave us a tour, and the skilled nursing side was just gorgeous, and very beautiful. The staff is very friendly, they have an area for lounging, they have a wonderful rehab area, they have a great contraption for showering, and you can open the door and just sit inside. They have bingo, and just all kinds of activities. They have church there, and there's a lot for them to do. Her room is ready, and we met her roommate yesterday. It was very clean, updated, and all the staff was just wonderful. Chuck knew everything about Alzheimer's patients, he was very eager to help us, and he just dropped everything and took us on a tour. The staff was clean, dressed nicely, smiling, and helpful.

The facility was very understaffed which affected my grandmother's care. There were not enough nurses or aides to go around. She contantly had to wait long periods of time for a nurse to show up. Another issue was cleanliness. I know these facilities smell bad but this was overpowering and the floors were always dirty. She also got her property stolen frequently. Things like a tv, clothing, and DENTURES!I know it is hard for the staff to keep tabs on everything that goes on, especially since there are so few of them. Increased staffing and a better screening process for staff would go a long way in fixing some of these issues. In their defense, they were incredibly helpful and compassionate in the last days of my grandmother's life. The staff that was there was great...just not enough of them
