I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Here’s my Landmark review… My aunt was placed there when her dementia became too much for her to live on her own. Landmark came highly recommended so we anticipated a positive experience. The only positive experience that came out of this was the ability to warn others to be cautious if they are considering putting a family member there. My Aunts dementia progressed very quickly and when she was no longer able to communicate I relied on the nurses and aids to tell me what was happening with her care. Unfortunately, when I questioned anything the staff members consistently answered with the standard “I just got on shift” or “l don’t know the patient” nonsense. Many times after she was no longer able to care for herself I would visit around meal times and find a tray of food sitting next to her bed. She would be laying in her bed mumbling and tugging at the covers. She did not know she needed to eat. And I was very aware that the staff didn’t know that they needed to feed her. So because of this, she was not fed regularly. When I mentioned anything about her care the aides always gave me the "I'll let someone know" line and walked away. She was only bathed once a week and had multiple UTI’s. Because of her advanced dementia she did not know she needed to change her clothes if she was wet. And again the staff seemed to not know they needed to change her clothes if she was wet. I came in and found her wet and changed her myself on multiple occasions. I came in many times to find new bandages on her arms and hands with the current date written on it. When I asked what happened, I was told “I don’t know. I think she got a skin tear.” How could they not know when it just happened?! When I asked to see a picture of the injury once, the “nurse?” at the desk advised me that pictures of injuries are not standard practice. It was hard to tell if she was a nurse or aide because many of them did not wear a name badge and the ones that did were turned backwards. The day she died we were not informed that she was in the active dying process so she passed away alone. This was an injustice to her and to us. When we asked why we were not told until she passed the “nurse?” told us that they attempted to call both her daughter and myself. Neither of us received such call. When I picked up her belongings the final time, the only person to acknowledge us was an aide who was standing at the desk. As we were walking out the door she hollered access the room to us, “Sorry for your loss” that was it.

I visited this facility

I visited Landmark of Midwest City, I talked to the administrator, and she has been doing nursing homes stuff for 30 years. They've done a lot of improvements there since she's been the administrator, and it smelled nice; that's kind of a big thing for me. She also answered all of my questions. They have activities for the residents. With my father-in-law's insurance, there wasn't going to be an out-of-pocket expense, as far as we could tell at this point. You can visit from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. any day. You have to make an appointment but they have a huge time window for visitation. You can bring in your own furniture if you want to. The location is also ideal. His wife is handicapped, so it's important that he's close to where she lives; it's a major factor. That was also the first place the caseworker mentioned whenever we asked about a quality place for my father-in-law. It's an older facility but it looks like it has been maintained well.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother is in Midwest City Nursing Center. When we first went, it was okay, now, it's not the place I would put her again. She was first placed in an apartment with a roommate, then they moved her into a single room, the sink has leaks, it's a constant run, no cold water, just hot water, and it's not clean, we had to clean the bathroom ourselves. The morning staff is not good at all, and in the afternoon staff there's one lady who is helpful to her, but the food is pretty good. They play bingo, they paint their nails, and they have movie nights. They need more help.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

When my friend first came to this nursing home facility, it wasn't the "prettiest" place but at that time it did have clean floors, the food looked good, and it didn't seem to have that nursing home smell. However, my friend has been there for a couple of years now and this facility has gone continuously DOWNHILL! There is almost no person who is NOT in a wheelchair. i very much got the impression they seem to want their residents to be wheelchair-bound. My friends room had torn wallpaper for months and a phone that had wires hanging from it. Phone in room was not operational. My biggest complaint is they don't seem to enforce any kind of "lights out" rule where the TVs and lights go out at a reasonable hour and send the visitors home. They let residents RUN their TVs all through the night so that the roommate can't get any sleep and let family members stay indefinitely, which is disconcerting if you are a female patient and your roommate has male visitor(s) that stay all through the night. Would you feel comfortable going to sleep with a strange man in your room? Then just this weekend I went inside and there was trash bags outside every room in the hall and laundry as well. Come to find out, NOW the RESIDENTS (not the staff) have to take their OWN trash and laundry to the door for pickup! It has now crossed the line to TERRIBLE!

I am/was a resident of this facility

I didn't like Midwest City Nursing Center. The location wasn't too bad because it was close to doctors, hospitals, and everything that I would need. The people inside weren't that friendly. They were trying to take care of so many people at one time. Residents had to go to the dining room, and I didn't like that. The services were mediocre. They didn't provide food that I really liked. They needed to improve everything. See, the residents were locked inside. They weren't able to go out unless somebody signed them out. I want to be able to step outside my door and have fresh air. There were two beds in the unit, which was kind of like a hospital room.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My family & I have been extremely happy with Midwest City Nursing Center. Since my Grandmother has been there the staff has made us feel very comfortable able making this decision. From being greeted at the door by Ms. Pearly, to the care given by our favorite nurse Kristi M. And the aides that are ready & available when needed (just to name a few...KD, John, Amber, Terri). The office staff has also been helpful, Stephanie, LaShawn, & the DON, Dee. I could go on & on but I won't.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother-in-law went to Midwest City Nursing Center for rehab. She hadn't been there eight hours before they let her fall off the bed and break her hip. Some of the nurses were very nice, some of them seemed like they really cared, and others acted like they could care less, but I know they have either of that probably in every facility. After she fell, we talked to the director, and I didn't think she really cared that much. The place was not clean; the room was always dirty. I would not recommend this place to anybody.
