My friend has moved into Bickford of Rocky River. The reason we chose them is because of the speed at which I could get him in there, and it seemed to be very beneficial to him, and in fact, it is. The staff is very helpful. My friend's room is a one-room L-shaped with a small sink for a kitchen area and one large bathroom. They have a common area room, and I've seen the dining room and the grounds. As for activities, the other day I was there, they had bingo, and one other day, they had some sort of like a badminton game or something like that going on. The activities I think are just garden variety things. I don't know how much they add to people's general lifestyle. And I think all these places are way overpriced.

This facility was unable to help me. The person I spoke with was very helpful, but they did not have any beds available for my mom. She did offer the name of two other facilities that might take my mom.

I moved into the Bickford of Rocky River two weeks ago. I like the fact that the staff responds right away, and they're very friendly. I don't have anything bad to say about it. It has a lot of curb appeal. It's super clean. They have excellent food. The dining room is very nice. There is an exercise class. There's neighborhood walking, board games, puzzle time, bingo, and crafts. I'm satisfied at the moment.

Bickford of Rocky River was our number two choice. That was very nice, I liked that one. I've seen a menu but did not sample a meal there. They had choices. The only one that I met was the admissions director. I mean, I've seen some people that were living there, but I didn't have any conversations with them.

We went to Bickford of Rocky River. It got crossed off pretty quick. Not that it was a bad place. It was a beautiful house-looking building, but there were stairs. It's three stories tall. There was one elevator and a grand staircase to the second floor, which my dad can't do stairs at all. The one elevator was just too slow, the space was too small, and it was too dark. It looked beautiful from the outside. The staff was very nice. Everybody that we talked to was very nice, but the residents, it was more like a nursing home, and that just isn't what I'm looking for at all. Even the assisted living didn't feel like assisted living, it felt like a nursing home. You couldn't tell the difference between the assisted living and memory care. There was no separation of the two. There's nothing that I saw that really excited me. I didn't see a bus that they would take them on outings. It's right off the Detroit Road, and it's a very dangerous street running right there. There wasn't a place to go watch movies, and there wasn't a place to do anything. It looked like a house with lots of little apartments carved into it. There was nothing special to it at all. I only met one of the staff members and that was the girl that gave us the tour. She was great, but she wasn't one that did direct care, she was just the receptionist. I never met a nurse.

I saw the memory care at Bickford of Rocky River. They just gave me a tour of the place. The girl answered my questions to the best of her knowledge, as far as I'm concerned. She was working at the front desk. I was looking for respite for a week, so they showed me, and I told them that my mother would need to be in the memory care unit in a locked-down area. I don't need for her to be in a regular room and find her way out the door, because it's easy for them to do. The one thing I didn't see too much was the staff taking care of the residents. Of course, they could have been in the rooms with them. The rooms were OK and nicely sized. My mom wouldn't need a big room anyway. She just needs a bed to sleep in, a closet to hang her clothes in, and a bathroom to use. Everything else is outside. They had their meals in the dining room, and she said they have activities. She just filled me in with those kinds of things. They had a beauty shop there, a spa room, and an area where you could go wash your clothes, but they would have to do that for her. They have activities and physical therapy too. For a week, I don't know how much they can do with her, but the thing is just to have a safe place for her to be for that week. The girl who took me around just filled me in with little bits here and there about the place and what they do. She did all right with the touring and just letting me know they have activities, ice-cream socials, popcorn, movie nights, and bingo. It's a nice place. It's like an old Southern type of a house, and it's not a big place. It's not been added onto or anything. The surrounding area was very nice. They keep it up with flowers. It's very homey.

Bickford of Rocky River is very nice. It's small and kind of like a cottage; it's cute. It's very, very expensive; they're tiny and pretty expensive. The one lady I met was very nice and gave me a quick tour. It's a very pretty, newer building. It is well kept, and it smelled good, like brewed coffee. It's in a quiet, residential area, and it's close to a bunch of medical-care options, which is nice for seniors.

My mother is at Bickford of Rocky River. They did a virtual tour. The staff seems very nice and willing to work with me and my mom together to make the transition good. She's only been there a couple days, and I haven't been able to go in. I'm having my first visit today. My mom seems to like the food. She was in quarantine for the first several days because of the Covid. They were waiting for her test to come back, so she just started roaming around a little bit. I could see the windows. The facade looks beautiful. It's inviting. It's got nice chairs and seating on the covered porch area. There's plenty of space. There are plants and flowers. It resembles more of a large house versus just a building, which is part of why I chose that. It has more of a homier look to it than just an apartment building or a hospital type of a facility. They told me it's a very active community. Not so much now because of the Covid, but they still try to bring in some form of entertainment. They gather the residents in the dining area and have a live entertainment guy standing outside playing where they can still hear and see, but the person doesn't come into the building. They do arts and crafts and puzzles. They have a gathering room and a sitting room with an aquarium in it and another room where there's a birdcage. They're allowed to go outside. They did weekly trips to the store. They used to take the residents personally to church, but now they just offer services inside the facility. She said the food is really good, and everybody is very nice. From what I can tell, it's a highly rated facility. The staff has been working with me and has offered support to me as well as my mom with the change and moving her into the facility. They reached out to me also, which I felt very honored by. I felt like they were including me in everything. They're letting the residents come into the dining room to eat instead of eating in their rooms. They're kind of spread things out, so everybody can come down. Everybody has their own table with their names on it. They're allowing them to have somewhat of a social atmosphere, but yet still maintaining their distance. They have memory care. If and when the time came, I felt it would be easier to move her into that kind of care.

We picked Bickford of Rocky River for my mom and so far so good. The staff members communicate very well, and they have programs for all the residents. The coordinator seemed to be very on top of things there.

Sunrise of Rocky River was very nice as far as appearance, but they didn't have the accommodation for two-bedroom facility. The person who assisted us was very nice and very knowledgeable. She wanted to sell the place and get us to go there. The dining area was very nice, but you're limited to times that you can go for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Sunrise of Rocky River was a small place that did not have too many rooms. They had lots of windows and lots of lights; however, people were mostly just sitting around. There wasn't much going on at all. There weren't any activities.

We moved Mom to Sunrise of Rocky River. We chose it because it is smaller and not so big or institutionalized. It is very homey. The staff is wonderful, very caring and energetic. Their aides are very kind and attentive. They are really taking good care of her. They go out of their way to make her comfortable, especially in the beginning. My mom is not really crazy about the food. She feels like it is very bland. Her room is suitable, fine, and functioning well. She prefers something bigger, but she can't afford it. They have activities like exercises, games, and outings. She has started to fully participate in the activities. We are very confident that she is secure, happy, and well cared for.

Dad stayed at Sunrise for about a month. All of the staff there are just remarkable people. We chose the facility because my wife and I were just so impressed with the guy who gave us a tour there. I had a great feeling about the marketing sales manager, and I could tell he loved the people there. It's the kind of place where all of the staff knows every single resident by name, and they call them by name. Whether the person is wheelchair bound or lifeless, they treat them all with the dignity and respect that they deserve. It's a wonderful uplifting thing to see even though from my dad's perspective, he was depressed being there because there weren't too many people he could interact with. The nursing staff was great. All of the nurse aides were wonderful. Truthfully to me, that's all that matters is that they have people there who care and my dad was treated like he was the most important person there whenever they had an issue. The accommodations were awesome. They were more than adequate. As far as their activities and stuff that they had, I didn't even care nor did my dad. My dad is not a very social person, so he doesn't need activities planned for him. They had a nice Christmas program. It was very enjoyable.

When my family was looking for a place for our great-grandmother, we found a Sunrise assisted living facility in a few locations. We were given a recommendation through friends who had put their loved on in a Sunrise in Columbus. We visited their Rocky River location, and we have to admit we were less than impressed. Certainly the conditions were fine, probably as best as they can be in places as these, but the responsiveness of the staff didn't seem satisfactory. On the lunch room floor a lot of residents seemed to be going ignored or begrudgingly helped or sluggishly helped along. We understand that these people can't be chipper, perfect people all the time, but it just seemed many of the residents were caught into a routine of having to get people's attention. We thought about going for a second visit, but opted not to because of our previous experience and because of the distance. Maybe many will and have had better interactions there, but it certainly isn't at the top of the list of the maybe dozen homes we visited.
