I had a family member live here until she passed away. Her quality of life in the end was amazing. She had so many friends and attended so many activities. The activities were phenomenal especially the Second Wind Dreams that the facility held for the different people. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking of how happy she was. The Shepherd of the Valley staff always made us feel like family and were always kind. You can tell they they are truly their because they care.

Shepherd of the Valley - Poland was very nice. They had about 50 to 60 independent units behind their big building, which were like one-story duplexes that range from 805 square feet to 900 square feet. They're all two bedrooms and looked pretty nice. It's a nice little community. Every unit has a washer-dryer, refrigerator, stove, and one car garage. You can go into the main building and eat if you want to, but it's not included in your plan. If you can't go get your meal, because you're either not healthy or can't go, they'll charge you $1 to come and deliver it to you. The staff was very nice and very good. They had excellent landscaping and it was kept up well.

We looked at Shepherd of the Valley-Poland. The facility is nice, and it seems clean. The lady that gave the tour was not great. It didn't seem warm and engaging. It seemed rather cold. We did not try the food. They have a beautiful chapel there that we saw; that was very pretty as an amenity. We saw one of the rooms, the dining area, and stuff like that, it just seemed very cold. The lady that gave us the tour didn't seem engaging, she didn't seem excited, and it was just kind of flat. So it came off as being very cold, like not a warm place at all. Compared to the other facility which is family-oriented, and the staff is very engaging, very inquisitive and they wanted to know more about my mom. I didn't have any of that. It was very like a formal sort of very cold tour. But the facilities are beautiful, and they seem clean. We certainly have an activities calendar, and it seemed like they have a lot of things. We didn't try the food or anything like that, but it came across like it was a more institutional sort of setting versus a warm, friendly, engaging atmosphere.

My parents just move in to Shepherd of the Valley. They have beautiful condos, and they provide the support that my parents need to live as independently as possible. They provide all the exterior work on the house. They do the maintenance and the repairs inside. They provide security, and they are all wheelchair accessible. The rooms are pretty, big and have a lot of storage. It provides a washer and dryer. The rooms are all air-conditioned, and my parents have a screened in back porch.

I knew Shepherd of the Valley in Western Reserve with my aunt being there. They cared for her, and her room was very nice. It was homey and very clean. They wanted my mother to move there, but I said no. I didn't feel that they had the activities. I never saw a calendar as far as activities go. I wasn't really impressed with the outlay of the place. The main part was very nice, but when we got off of the elevator, you'd walk right into the dining area, and that was a turnoff. It was very simple, and they didn't cover their tables.

My husband and I visited Shepherd of the Valley to see if it was a good fit for my ailing mother. She is currently in her late 80s and we are no longer able to care for her like we can. My primary goals for her was to find a place that would keep her active for her age, have good nutritional options, and most of all caring and cleanly. I visited many other assisted living options in the Boardman, OH area and this one by far was the most cleanly and customer service friendly. My husband and I wanted to make the first visit to see what we think before taking my mother by to see it. Bridget the front counter rep was very courteous and welcoming. The cafeteria had great food offerings as well. I really do think that this one will be ranked in my top 3 places to narrow down to for her future care. I really liked that they would work with her primary care physician as well.
