I visited this facility

Hampton Woods was recommended by the doctor. He said "I had some patients there and the experience has been nothing but positive with the administration. Your mom would fit in well there." Unfortunately, when we got there, it was a Friday afternoon, about 3:30 or 4:30, and a lot of their weekly staff had already left for the weekend, but the business manager was in and she was so nice and so accommodating. She said "It's OK. It's not 5:00. Of course, we'll show you through." She was just so nice about it and she took us around. She took time out of her schedule, which meant she was probably going home half an hour later and all that because she would have still had to finish up her paperwork. She showed us everything and explained everything. This facility had a New Orleans theme to it. The dining room was as if you were on a riverboat with the chandelier and the tablecloths. That's where people normally took their meals down there. So naturally, those people would love it because you were being treated like royalty. Kind of like if we took a trip today on one of those ocean cruises. The cafeteria food was on the bottom floor and things were arranged for convenience there. Their bottom floor had the exercise room, the little courtyard if you wanted to go out and sit in on the flowers, the laundry facilities, the nurse's station, and just things that would be, in our household, we would need to run into. The second floor and third floor were all rooms for people. The second floor seemed to be more for single rooms. The third floor seemed to be more like suites. The rooms were exquisitely furnished. The furniture was dark cherry wood. It was very nice. Sometimes you would walk in there and they would be like "I hope I don't do anything to ruin your furniture." It was really nice. They have a little kitchenette there for everybody and that was nice. You could have your breakfast there and they would bring the breakfast to you if you didn't want to go down to the cafeteria. We were on the floor with the suites and they were arranged like little semicircles. So, it would be a little cul-de-sac on your floor. The other people from the other cul-de-sacs came out to say hi. Then they had a big general family room in the middle of all those rooms so everybody could share the family room or if you didn't like that, you could be in your own little room where you had your own little living room. You would have 3 or 4 definite friends from the other rooms. When I was there, some people were going out on a trip with them. They were going to the mall (because they don't get out that often to go to the mall). These people were excited and they were running downstairs to catch the bus and all that. They had a mixture of people there. They have old and young people, as young as 50 there and as old as 90. It was a wide variety of age groups. There was no discrimination. It was beautiful. The food was lovely.

I visited this facility

I went to Hampton Woods Assisted Living & Nursing Center. It was nice, but it was too much like a nursing home. My father had dementia. So, we wanted something that did not feel like a hospital. We wanted something that felt more comfortable, like a home. The person who gave us the tour was very nice. She gave a lot of good information. The room is more like a shared room.

I visited this facility

We looked at Hampton Woods. It is an absolutely, incredible, beautiful facility. But it didn't work for my mother because you needed to be a bit more independent. It's set up on a social model versus a medical model. And she needed some medical care. The staff is fabulous. The executive director is like a pied piper. It's gorgeous and top-notch, but it didn't work for my mom. You needed to be more ambulatory and more independent. And it's set up as a social model, so it's more like independent living/assisted living. It just didn't work for her. It's spectacular. I would have moved in. That would have been my choice. Their amenities are phenomenal. The dining area was very nice. They have everything that you can think of like parties and Wii bowling. You name it, they do it.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I currently have a family member at the Woodlands. To say I am disappointed and frustrated is an understatement. Severely understaffed (1 nurse to 17 patients) and poor response time. They know this is an issue as we have received an apology. Patients are not permitted to have their doctor come in and the Woodlands doctor is only there in the morning. I would advise to stay away from the Woodlands.

I visited this facility

Woodlands was a beautiful facility. The staff was nice. Like all assisted livings, the rooms were small. However, they had a beautiful dining room that was restaurant style. The general atmosphere of the place was very nice and very friendly. They had a tour service. They had some singers, dancers came in, and they had bingo.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

First of all, Hampton Woods Nursing Center was clean, and it was beautiful and family friendly. When my mother was there for nursing, my grandchildren were more than welcome, and there were things for them to do. It was just like a little village. It was wonderful, and it was just excellent care, and everything was right there if you would need it, so this was the number one choice. Her room was very nice, it had a window with a beautiful view out into the woods, it was clean and really close to everything like the dining table and the playroom where the kids would sit in front of the TV; everything was right there, and there was an outdoor patio. It was really excellent, and the employees were really superior, over and above, very caring people.

I am/was a resident of this facility

It is called Woodlands Assisted Living. It is a nice place, but the food is bad. The staff is excellent, and the activities there change. The sanitation is very nice and very good. It is very clean, and it is a shared responsibility. They need to improve the food though.
