Gateway Family House was nice. The people were welcoming and friendly. It was a decent community and the facility was clean, although I would have liked to see people doing more activities with the seniors. I don't know if it was just the time of day, but when I went they were just hanging around looking kind of bored.

Gateway Retirement was reasonably priced. However, it was going through improvements and transitions right now. It was a little worn. But the people there were nice and we had a good experience with them. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were fine. They were not spectacular but they were good. They had big common area and it was a large facility. The activities looked good. They had the availability of options. They had different tours and shopping excursions.

The facility was average. The lobby and halls could have been decorated better, but it appeared to be mostly clean. Not many activities ever seemed to be going on. Music might have helped cheer the place up a bit.

The staff were very friendly, and the facility itself was kept in great shape. The grass was always kept green and mowed, the flowers and gardens were well manicured, and the interior of the building was in very nice shape. All the rooms looked exactly the same, which I suppose is pretty normal for assisted living facilities. My great aunt complained that several of the people working there didn't treat her how she'd like to be treated, but she complained alot about almost everything so we're not really sure if she was just complaining like usual or if there was a valid reason for it. Every time we talked to the staff members they seemed very friendly, and if my aunt needed anything they would happily go and get it- usually within a few minutes. She had a TV in her room with cable, and a window looking out into a nice green wooded area. We also really liked how close it was to our house, which I guess isn't exactly unique to any individual assisted living facility- it just depends on where you live and how close they are located. All in all, we were pretty happy with the place and with the care they provided for my great aunt.
