My mom has been staying at Briarwood Village. She's in their assisted living and overall, we've had a positive experience over the last eight years. Our dad was initially there as well for the first three years before he passed. They initially went into the facility due to my mother having some memory issues. They went into assisted living together as a couple with one being independent and the other in assisted living but they lived together in the same apartment. Over the years, whenever there have been concerns of any kind, the facility has responded and we've worked through anything that came up. It's just that currently, there's not a memory unit for her. My mom's on the borderline between being able to stay in an assisted living area and needing a memory care unit. At this time, Briarwood does not have that level of memory care. I feel like with what they're working with and where they're at, the staff is very knowledgeable about their patient population. I have tried their food too and I feel like it was satisfactory. The place is not as new as the others but it is still on the newer side. I feel that they do a great job with ongoing upkeep and maintenance that fits the overall culture of the community. They do plan events too, and there are residents definitely engaged with them throughout the day. It's just that, at the moment, because of my mother not being in the most appropriate environment, her cognition limits her from participating in some of the activities.

My dad is a resident of Briarwood Village. We liked the facility because of the cleanliness and it's fairly new. It has a nice curb appeal. They have a microwave, and a small, college dorm refrigerator. The staff were very quick and prompt. I haven't had any issues with them. He seemed to like the food, of course, it's not like home-cooked meals and he's been on the farm his entire life, so it's a little challenging for him. They do have options if there's something that he does not care for. They can get a hamburger, hotdog, or a grilled cheese sandwich. They have different things that he can get if he doesn't like what's on the menu. They have cards that they play with. They had taken out a group of residents to the fair, so they do go outside of the box.

Briarwood is great. I would recommend it highly. They are very caring and conscientious. My mother is getting excellent care. She went from the skilled side and to the assisted living side, so she is now in a two-bedroom until a one-bedrom becomes available on Monday. It’s very clean and neat. She has her own bathroom and kitchenette.

I have encountered very few people who were not kind and compassionate. The facility is extremely clean and very well maintained. My grandma enjoys the freedom to interact with others, yet still maintain her privacy as she desires. When we come to visit, we are treated well also.

I have a close relative who was recently moved into an assisted living facility. The idea of moving into a facility scared her a little but she knew, as did her family that it was the right thing. Being an 92 year old widow, living at home alone, is a scary thought. Most people have negative reactions and reviews to nursing homes these days and for my relative she was uneasy about moving away from home. Several months later she could not be happier! She meets new people everyday, plays cards with friends, enjoys sitting outside on nice days, welcoming grandchildren and friends who come to visit and most of all the assurance of knowing somebody is always there to assist. While at the age of 92, things can get hard for someone, but they never want to feel helpless. Assisted living facilities allow residents to have as little to as much freedom as they need. Briarwood Village in Coldwater, Ohio is a great example of a close-knit assisted living facility where both workers and residents bare smiling faces.
