I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father is a resident of The Meadows on University. They're more of a rehab facility, so it's nursing home rehab. They're not really long term, and they don't do much with memory care. He has a neurologic deficit, so he can get agitated, violent, and all that stuff. We're looking for more appropriate care for him. He's able to bathe himself, and he's able to do a lot of stuff for himself, but he's fallen a couple of times. When this happens they put him into rehab status, and they charge another three grand a month for the rehab. My sister takes care of the finances, and she said, "I told them not to do that." Custodial care is what he should get, because he's not able to take his own pills by himself. He can't cook for himself, and he can't clean. He can't do all his bathing or ADLs. He can't set up his medications for himself; he won't have a clue what medications to take. This was a nursing home because he had fallen. My mom had fallen also, and she ended up there; we needed a place for him, so this is where he ended up. His mother had been at this nursing home also. It's not appropriate for him. We've had some issues with them because he's left the facility, and he's also fashioned a weapon out of some of their silverware. So we haven't been too impressed lately with them. That's why we're looking to move him. I think they've also undergone a management change. I haven't seen the room he's in now, but he was in a semi-private room. Two people were in the room, and it was it was adequate. When we went, my dad was in therapy at the time: physical therapy and occupational therapy. They seemed to be OK, but they tell him they're doing well, and he says, "Oh, I'm doing really well." But a lot more goes into it. They need to communicate better. My sister has spoken to two different social workers, and each one of them has a different take on my dad and his condition. One thinks he's doing wonderfully and says he would do well in an assisted living place. The other one says he does not do well with the program most of the time. It's very conflicting in what they say. He has care planning, and I guess they call her once a month for care review. I told my sister, "I don't know why you're not telling them." They didn't have a clue that he had left, so their security is definitely lax. I know the staff have been there for quite some time, and I know they've gone through a lot of changes. It's an older facility; it's been there for quite some time. My father is a private payer. He has long-term care insurance, but the bill has gone anywhere from $7,000 a month to $15,000 a month. It's very inconsistent. They need to be much more consistent in their communication and their billing practices. It's a terrible place.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My mother who is 90 yrs old stayed here and it was a horrible place...meals served late, food I wouldn't feed my dog, a smell of stench in the hallways, unbelievably small rooms, no interaction or creativity for residents to keep busy with, ugly decor, needs to be updated, nurses from foreign countries who can't speak english and who move slow as turtles, the worst nursing home in Fargo, ND. btransferredhappresidents there where residents are treated like people. I can't say one good

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My brother was at Manor Care Health Services. It was not very positive at all. The staff was nice enough. The facility is not very nice; it hasn’t been updated. The services that are provided are very limited for the clients as far as any type of enrichment. The rooms are very, very small for 2 people.
