I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister is at Autumn Care of Shallotte. The facility is not as nice. The care is not as high as I would like it to be as far as the nursing care and the food is not good at all. Her room is adequate. It has an adjoining bathroom that is shared with another room. It's a large room and it's adequately furnished. They help my sister with physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy. I think the therapist has done a good job. The office people have been fine, but the people that are caring for her day to day, I'm not overly impressed with them. The only activity she's been involved in is therapies She hasn't been involved in any kind of activities other than that. Her rehab period has been covered by Medicare and insurance.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My client is in a nursing home at Autumn Care of Shallotte. It's horrid. She gets released on Monday. My overall experience is not good. The nurses are not too good, but the therapists are excellent. I have no clue about the food because she is not eating, and she doesn't wanna eat. She was there one time before and they did OK the first time she was there. This time, I'm not up there, and they let her wound get infected. They weren't changing her clothes properly in the beginning. It's got a lot to do with the COVID because you can't go in and check these things or to check on the patient. It's just been really nerve-racking. You have to keep on with them to communicate. There's lack of communication. I'd give the therapy staff a 5, and the nurses about a 2 or 3. The facility is clean. When you walk in, it doesn't smell like a nursing home, you actually smell laundry. It is a clean nursing home from what I've seen. I think their price is kinda high for what we deal with.

Other

I have been receiving harrasing robocalls. I have asked SEVERAL times for these to stop, as I have no association with this facility or anybody within. I am not even in the same state or anywhere close! Upon calling to request help with stopping the calls, both Harriet and Pam were very rude. Neither of them had any courtesy or even cared to try and resolve or assist with th issue. I am glad I do NOT have any family members in this facility!

The patients do NOT have a telephone. In order to call, you get a main desk first - on weekends, you are lucky if someone answers. Then it goes to the nurses desk. The nurses are very often busy with patients; and the phone rings and rings; I have called 6 or 7 times in one day before I can get through. When I complained about this (I live 500 miles from my mother, who is the patient) I was told "most patients have cell phones". My mother is 96, has never nad a cell phone in her life, and has dementia. She does not understand how to use a cell phone. Others have given up commun icating with my Mom, which is sad as she looked forward to that. But it is just too difficult - that tells me they are worried most about bottom line, not patients.

I visited this facility

I liked Autumn Care of Shallotte. It was very clean. The lady who showed me around was very nice. The rooms looked great, nice, and clean. The food looked nice, too. The people were friendly.
