My mom was here at this facility for rehab - she had a knee replacement. The facility is great! Very loving staff and the therapists were excellent. My Mom, who can be stubborn sometimes, was up everyday and truly enjoyed the "workouts" they gave her. She is back home with me now and I am very appreciative.

South Village Nursing Home of Rocky Mount NC is a horrible place. It should be shut down. While there are some good people who try to make a positive difference there, it is STILL not enough. My mother was recently there and had to be IMMEDIATELY removed when I walked in and saw the horrible condition she was in. She had been placed in a room all by herself. The lights were off. She and her bed had been pushed against the far wall and she was lying in her bed struggling to breathe. For each breath she took, her body would tremble. As I walked in to her room and approached her bed, I could feel the heat coming from her body. When I asked the attendant to take her temperature, I saw this assistant place the thermometer on the OUTSIDE of my mother's cotton gown. I asked her to take my mom's temperature by placing the termometer next to her skin. I was told that my mom's temperature was 96.1 which I KNEW to be inaccurate. As I pulled the covers back on my mom, I found her soaking in feces and urine…. so much so that the attendants who came to change her had to remove ALL of the linen and wipe down the bed. It was just AWFUL. I fight everyday to have this image removed from my mind. Furthermore, as I leaned down to give my mother a kiss on her forehead, I realized that her hair had not been washed or combed; that is smelled TERRIBLE. I found a washcloth and began to wash my mother's face (I didn't want to wash her hair since she had a temperature). As I washed her face the washcloth LITERALLY began to turn BLACK. My mother was FILTHY. When I washed behind her ears, I saw nothing but BLACK…yes ..BLACK streaks of dirt. When I washed in her nostrils….NOTHING BUT DIRTINESS. When I washed between her toes, there was NOTHING BUT GUNK…the thick dirt one finds when someone's feet have not been washed in a long while. Her feet were scaley and dirty. She was in a pitiful, sad, awful state of being. Her teeth had not been brushed it seemed it WEEKS! I had my mom immediately removed from this place after a worker (one of the conscientious ones) informed me that my mom's temperature had escaled to 101. When my mom arrived at the hospital her temperature was 104.1. I believe my mother would have died had she remained at that awful place. Nurses at the hospital commented on how dirty and smelly my mother was when she arrived at their location. I did not have my cell phone with me; but had I had it, I would POST the images I describe in this post. The ONLY reasons I rate this place with a ONE STAR is because there is not way to rate it a MINUS star. STAY AWAY from South Village Nursing Home if you love your friends and family.

Good Morning, My mother is a nursing home patient at South Village Nursing Home located in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. This letter is to commend the outstanding services that they are providing for her and other patients that I’ve witnessed during my visits. I've worked for numerous healthcare organizations: Kaiser Permanente, Georgetown University, Capitol Hill Hospital, Columbia HCA and Virginia Hospital Center. I was never ever fond of nursing homes. I am writing to let you know that my Mom has been in this nursing home for quite a few years and the care has been exceptional! I live out of state and I never advised the time or date when I will be visiting. However, when I arrived everything is clean and my mother has never once complained!! The Nursing staff and Food Service staff are always clean and everyone is extremely kind. All of these things matter when you leave your love ones in the care of strangers. Also, South Village staff easily makes favorable impressions and gains acceptance by displaying genuineness in dealing with others, which conveys willingness in promoting team efforts. In spite of some of the bad ratings reviewed online. It is my professional opinion that is one of finest nursing home you could experience. Respectfully;
God is watching

I've been to South Village for a visit, and it was an OK facility. When I first went there, I noticed that a lot of the staff needed more professionalism. On my second visit, I saw that they have undergone a lot of renovations, they have new people, and they have made significant changes to their buildings. It looked very, very nice. The staff are much more professional, and I don’t see a lot of them just standing around anymore or doing nothing. They made a lot of changes in the last three or four months.

The staff at the time was not very good. There was a urine odor in most of the rooms, some of the patients were not turned properly, and My aunt couldn't stand being a resident there. The amenities were up to date. The bathrooms were never clean. The receptionist at the front desk was always polite. Some of the nurses seemed to have bad attitudes. If you need assistance for anything it seemed as if the would take their time to assist with your needs. The older people that I met on different occasions would tell me of stories where they would need to be changed, or their room-mate needed to be turned and, it may have taken awhile for the nurses to come. When you walk on the inside of the facility there is an odor, I didn't like it but my guess was that's just the way it smelled. Unfortunately my grandmother, and one of my aunts passed away. Eventually my other aunt was moved to another facility.

My Father lives at this facility. My family and I are very satisfied of the way the staff is treating my Father. I visit Dad several times a week. I really appreciate the way I'm informed If anything happen such as a falling incident. The staff treats my dad like family. They keep his clothes washed and his hygiene's up to par. I truly believe its safe to say that we chose the right home for him.
