This is one of the most disturbing places I have ever seen. Alzheimer's patients are free to roam around into patient's rooms. The layout is radial, so there are 5 corridors and a nurses' station is at the center. The on duty nurse just sat there, and not bothering to answer the patients. My mom needed a medicated mouthwash...they never gave it to her, even though I repeatedly asked for it every day. They said they couldn't reach the doctor! The night my mom arrived (blind and just had hip surgery), two nurses started to move her. She screamed in pain, and they said no one told them! I saw a deceased person on a gurney being transported in the hallway, without giving any of the residents any warning, or closing their doors. This hole needs to be shut down. I wouldn't put a dog there. I have no idea why their license hasn't been revoked a long time ago. Fortunately, I was able to get my mom out of their within a few day.

Universal Health Care-North Raleigh had a two-day notice that my dad was coming. When he finally arrived, they weren't ready for him. The staff was fantastic (I can't take anything away from them) because they really worked hard to get to where my dad is at now. I understand that everyone is shorthanded with help, but it really showed that they were struggling at that point. Also, dinner would come in late, and sometimes food was cold. Sometimes it seemed like the food was excellent, but there was times where it was not. During the week my dad's room seemed clean, but they could have done a better job on the weekends.

My dad lived at Universal Healthcare/North Raleigh for over four years. The first few years were pretty good. He was a likable person and made friends with all of the workers. They took good care of him and his health actually improved. However, staffing turnover is a problem. The last year was horrible. The current administrator would benefit from some continuing education on how to manage a nursing home and how to communicate with families - that's putting it nicely. Due to COVID, I was unable to enter the facility to take care of things for my dad. With constant turnover with the aides, the care of the residents, dietary, and housekeeping has seriously declined. My dad contracted COVID mid-December and died nine days later. I don't have the energy to even discuss how horrific that experience was but I will say that 31 days later and I still haven't received all of his belongings. The administrator has been incompetent in her duties. All nursing homes have problems - the staff are not fairly compensated for what they are required to do. For most of the staff, it is a J. O. B. However, there are always a few that truly care about the residents - and for that I am thankfuI. Based on the current administrator and staff, I would highly recommend not leaving your loved one at Universal.

My family member was treated horrible there. Insulted by staff, and made to feel less than human.

My brother went to Universal Health Care. It was a beautiful facility. All the nurses were as nice as they could be. He said that the food was great. He loved it. The facility was clean. I never smelled any odor or anything. It was always very nice. They had activities like different bands went there. They had arts and crafts. They had all the equipment that you could think of. They worked out with him as far as getting him in and out of a car and be able to stand up. I think that was great.

I choose this facility because of location, the facility is clean, and the rooms are spacious. My mother received great care, Universal has caring employees and you can tell that the staff really care about the patients there. They have an excellent rehab department. My mother even liked the food that is served. I recommend this facility to anyone looking for a nursing home for their love one.
