My mother-in-law moved into Brookdale Morehead City six weeks ago. The workers are very caring and kind, the food is delicious, and if we go visit, they let us have lunch with her in the dining room. The memory care is small, they did not have many people in there, but shes happy, they keep her busy, and she does little exercises and different little things shes interested in. One day, they had her design a quilt. They dig deeply into her past, her family, what she loved to do, and pull things back and have her work in some of these things. She is in a shared room, but theres nobody in there right now. They have an activity room in the memory care unit, a big table, TV, a little kitchen area, and a separate dining room. They have a sitting room with a big, flat-screen TV, and they have a place where you can walk outside into a little garden.

My parents will be moving into Brookdale Morehead City. It was a very inviting, friendly environment. It wasn't institutional. It was more of a home-type setting. The person that gave the tour was very informative. She was very good. She explained how things worked, where things happened, how the medications were given, what kind of help that my parents could have, what kind of assistance they could expect, and how that could be given. They explained very clearly the spaces that they could occupy and what the options were as far as a single apartment or a single room. They were just very informative. They gave us a packet of information. They're very nice and they made the decision a little easier.

I toured Brookdale Morehead City. The people are very nice. It's an older facility, but when you walk in there, it's brand new. They take care of it. What you do at Brookdale, is you bring your own furniture, but it was a nice setup because they had plenty of room for a dresser, bed, table, nightstand, and stuff like that. The accommodation looks very nice. I wouldn't call that a negative because a lot of people would prefer that anyway. The staff was very good and very accommodating. I didn't have any issues.

Brookdale Morehead City wasn't quite as clean as the other one. The carpet had a number of stains on it. However, I like the director. She was very personable and very accommodating. I also like their facilities. It's a little smaller than the other place. It had a movie theater with plush seats in it, which was very nice. It also had a patio. They had exercise rooms and a beauty parlor. They had either the kitchenette or you could bring your own stuff in. The rooms were quite comparable size-wise, but their bathing facilities were very good. In terms of location, they have a friendly market that's right there, and there are a lot of restaurants and stuff just a block away.

I like that Brookdale Morehead City was large and airy in terms of rooms and facilities. The dining room was large and comfortable. Everything was clean. The residents seemed very pleasant and happy to be there. The staff was friendly. The physical building itself was older. It was not quite as elegant as the other place, especially in the residence hallways. They had better room options. They have one-bedrooms and two-bedrooms. Their prices were a little less. I did tour the kitchen and speak with the chef. It was between meals and was very interesting. It was very clean and very thoughtful in terms of the preparations.

I chose Brookdale Morehead City for my sister. I was impressed with it. It was a most attractive building, with a nice porch out front. The interior is very well kept. The staff is most pleasant to deal with. They've got meals. They've got the nursing staff. Plenty of activity rooms, two or three of them around, TV rooms, a nice dining area, and an area where you can sit and entertain your friends. And just overall, it was nice and comfortable. It's an older building, but it's in excellent shape. I liked the neighborhood, it's nestled right in a residential neighborhood.

What I liked the best about Brookdale Morehead City was the size. It was just what I was looking for. I toured the memory care area, and it was very cozy and very homey. I didn't get the feeling that I was going into an assisted living or nursing home situation. They've taken a lot of care and thought into how it was set up, the residents, and how they were conducting business. Jill was very informative and super nice. She took all the time in the world and answered all my questions. She couldn't have been any more informative for me. Then they had these little coves (like little workspaces). The seniors could fold clothes and do sewing, while the gentleman had craftsman tools. They also have knitting, arts, and a lot more. They had a beautiful garden with chairs, umbrellas, and a pergola that was secure (where the residents could go out and sit).

Understaffed and they only care about money. Management isn’t there to help. The only manager who helps is the kitchen manager and memory card manager

Brookdale Morehead City was good. They didn’t have independent living, only have assisted living and memory care. Everything was nice except they didn’t have the service that we were looking for. The rooms and everything was very nice. The staff was very accommodating.

We are able to move my mom to Brookdale. It is a nice facility. They make a change in their corporation, and they switch their name. I think they are not a different corporation, and I will have to say their staff in the new corporation is even better than what they have before. Each person can have their room the way they want. In other words, a lot of the people suffer from Alzheimer's or dementia, and so I believe the their sons and daughters decorate their rooms for them, so their rooms are nice. The staff is good. Their eating facilities are nice. It is formal dining. I will say that if you have a mother, you will want to put her there. She is in a locked-down part of the facility. I know that sounds negative, but it is not. Inside that facility, it looks like it is a shopping adventure. It's like walking into a mall inside. The ones that want adventure out, they have a bus for them. They are able to go to Walmart weekly. They are able to go to the bank. As long as the residents there are physically able to go, they are taken out by a nice woman. They have bingo, cards, and volunteers that come mid-week who sit around and spell words. There is a woman who volunteers there who meets with the children and keeps them informed about dementia and Alzheimer's.

My father, a veteran, was transferred to Carolina House in Morehead because he needed more care with his dementia. However, when they had him medicated, he tried to open one of the doors there and they screamed at him. This threw him back into Vietnam all over again ad he never came out of it. He attacked three staff who tried to stop him and I had to involuntarily commit him to a hospital. They had kept him in the psyche ward for two days and they were very good to him but he started going downhill. He lost a lot of weight. The dementia had hit him really hard. We transferred him to a hospice facility in Lexington and after two days, he passed away. I'm not satisfied with the whole company. I haven't complained myself enough to write a letter yet, but a letter is going to their corporate headquarters.

It was a beautiful place. The rooms were nice and the surroundings clean. The only reason why I didn't chose this place was there was no lift for my wife. She's bedridden and it's difficult for her if this facility doesn't have one. However, one thing that really impressed me was the way the staff accommodated their residents. I will recommend this place to others.
