I went to Kempton of Jacksonville. I liked immediately the friendliness of the place, the very open friendliness. But when I got to the memory care, which was the lockdown unit, I was just sad there because nobody was doing anything. The patients were just sitting around not doing anything. And several of them came up to me and asked, "Could I get them out?" There didn't seem to be interaction between the patients and the staff. They have a courtyard that could be accessed but nobody was in it. It looked clean.

My grandmother is in Liberty Commons of Onslow. We had a really good experience there, but in the last few years it really changed. They had a little beauty shop and courtyards, but they don't have access to the memory care unit anymore. They had some activities for the regular residents, and they had outside activities for the memory care residents, but they don't anymore. They have a shuttle bus for doctor's appointments. Part of the problem has been a lack of staffing, and this puts a lot of pressure on the staff. The facility itself is pretty.

Liberty Commons had a private room, a room with two bedrooms with a shared bathroom, and a semi-private room with two single beds in one room which reminded me of a dormitory, where each person has a closet. They were bright and cheerful looking. The location is good and looked very nice. I thought it was a very attractive place and appeared to be very clean and maintained very well. The staff was friendly, helpful, and answered my questions. The bathroom they showed me had a shower seat that was slippery, which they don't recommend people to use. They had transportation to a local doctor's office if the resident needs it.

Liberty Commons is great. It’s a smaller facility, and it’s very clean. The staff is really happy. There’s a lot of personalized care. They pay a lot of attention to my mother-in-law, and they seem to do a good job. We have family that lives there, and they go to see her everyday.

My dad has been in Liberty Commons since March 15th. It's an assisted care facility though there are some nursing home patients in there as well. My dad is in a shared room. It's a little bit small for a semi-private room but it's not too bad. This is better because he doesn't want to stay in a private room. There's 24-hour monitoring system, but my dad has ample freedom and he can go if he pleases. The staff are wonderful and their food is also wonderful. It's a really good facility.
