My mother stayed at Pennybyrn for respite care following her surgery. They were great. They have different wings for different therapies, like if you have dementia or if you are recovering from surgery. She wasn't mixed in with people who live there permanently. The staff was excellent. She shared a room. They have an exercise room, outdoor patios, a baby grand piano, and a chapel on-site. They also have a dining room inside the wing. I was very happy with the facility. They give out meal tickets for families to eat there with the residents. They have special activities like Mexican theme nights and a barbecue on the 4th of July. It costs more, but it was well worth it.

Independent living overall is tops. For the cost it should be. Mom lived there for over 10 years and was contented. She inevitably had to move to what is named skilled nursing. Costs are stupendous here. Most not covered by Medicare or private insurance. The overall care she receives is fair during weekdays. On weekends there are no administrators there and the care and concern for patients suffers greatly. I've suggested many times to have at least one administrator present on weekends due to staff falling back on patient care. I have yet to see this change. Would it be so difficult to have a weekend rotation for at least one administrator to be on site? I will not go into the issues I've noted on weekends but I've made them very clear to administrative staff.

Pennybyrn is one of our top choices because it's got a religious background. The place was very nice. We saw two available rooms. I remember the two-bedroom because it's brand new, totally modern, and it had a kitchen whereas some of the places we visited didn't have that. The staff members were outstanding. They were very kind. They gave us every piece of information about the place, and they made us feel at home. They were excellent. They had a restaurant. I tried their food, and it was very good.

Pennybyrn is all about looks not care...especially in the Assisted Living and Memory Care Units. IN those units they might have 1 LPN (in a building with over 100 patients) and the rest of the staff is a mix of Practical and just "clean up" staff. Pennybyrn really just seems to want the Independent Living customers that they charge a arm and a leg for. My mother has been there over 8 years and honestly while the grounds and facilities are super...the actual patient care has been constantly understaffed and not very good. The much less expensive home my mother-in-law is much smaller and doesn't look nearly as "swanky" with old buildings BUT they provide twice or better care of the patients and have their priorities correct. We constantly are trying to get Pennybyrn to communicate better, have better staff and improve communication with the responsible family members....to no avail. Now Pennybyrn is almost doubling their independent living but boy will all those people be disappointed when the day comes to move to a higher level of care.

Pennybyrn is a Methodist or Presbyterian home. They were just wonderful there, and they also have skilled nursing. It was well done, well appointed, and the staff was excellent. The rooms were adequate, but not as good as the other places I toured. We saw the menus, we saw the dining room, and it was very nice. The menus were excellent. We saw some activities going on, people playing bingo, and putting puzzles together.

The social worker gave me the run around about admitting my mother. She said she needed info from other facility. When I talked to other facility, she promptly called me and said she would have an answer for me on Monday. On Monday I called and I was told she never received the information. Who can play round robin when you are trying to get care for your loved one. I could add a little more "color" to this post but I want to be careful. Make sure you are of the caliber that will be approved before you wait on Pennybyrn!

My Grandfather developed Alzheimer's in his sixties. Our family was trying to care for him at home, but his health was quickly declining and he needed more than we were able to provide. We tried a nursing facility close to our home,, but quickly realized =he was basically "hospitalized" in a cold, sterile room with a window looking out onto a brick wall. The nursing staff were overworked and he was barely a priority. He declined even more. We thought we were witnessing the end of his life. We wanted a better quality of life for however long that might be, and looked into Pennybyrn. From the moment we walked in the door, there was a feeling of peace and contentment immediately. The community is gorgeous and immaculate, and the healthcare building was beautiful and homey. The households and rooms are welcoming, and the team members were absolutely the sweetest and most helpful people we've ever met. They instantly made my Grandfather feel welcome and began creating a bond with him that was heartfelt. We moved him immediately and he actually began to improve! He gained enough strength to walk and wheel himself around, his mental acuity skyrocketed, and his sense of humor returned. You could tell that he genuinely =enjoyed living at Pennybyrn and it was a miraculous sight to behold. We knew then we made the best decision in going to Pennybyrn and letting them create a home for my Grandfather that catered to his wants and needs and excelled his quality of life beyond our expectations. Pennybyrn is not perfect nor do they claim to be. However, if you are searching for a community that will truly love your family member and honor their right to the best quality of life possible, then look no further than Pennybyrn.

Pennybyrn at Maryfield was excellent, and the rooms are excellent and clean. Housekeeping is also excellent. The person who assisted us was excellent, friendly, cooperative, and caring. They had a swimming pool, and they had exercise. We ate lunch there, which was excellent. The dining area was very nice, light, and clean, and had excellent waiters and waitresses.

Pennybyrn is a buy-in, and it is over-the-top gorgeous. It was like six-star hotel living. The food was excellent, and the staff was great. This is where I want to end up, so that is why I am saving money, because I want to end up in this place. They take you all the way through to the end. You start independently, and then it goes all the way through to nursing care. It is not all in the same building, but once you are in, you never have to think about going anywhere else. They have a little tub and a swimming pool, and the apartments are amazing. They have the usual activities like movies, entertainment, little plays, and field trips.

Pennybyrn is owned and operated by Catholic nuns. It is extremely clean and well-staffed. They have lower nurse to patient ratio and more CNAs and LPNs. You'd feel like your parent or your loved one would get better care and more attention. They have big rehab PT area. The staff was all extremely helpful and seemed to enjoy their work. They all seemed to be friendly and knowledgeable. They have lots of activity. It's well decorated. The rooms are well sized and nicely furnished. They have doubles and single apartments. I like the setting and the furnishings, too.

the staff seem very friendly and eager to help with any and all question that my friend had pertaining to his father stay at the facility. They also had a starbucks machine that I always loved to use and a golf course for the residents to use when ever they wanted to. At times they seemed short staffed but the nurses always crossed me as pleasant and very helpful. Overall the facility is very nice my friends father was also in the rehabilitation department after he had surgery done on his hip, and again he had a great attitude about the facility and the treatment he received. most of the CNA would go out of there way to make sure he was comfortable and had everything he needed.

i had family here and even though the atmosphere is pretty, the care is not the greatest. I have seen residents left out "watching TV" while no nurse is around. Not impressed with the Administrator who does not have knowledge of nursing. It is sad. They had a wellness clinic several years ago that was the bomb but in the last couple years has declined. Not sure what has happened.

Pennybyrn at Maryfield is a reputable assisted living facility in the High Point area. While touring the facility, I found the general atmosphere appealing and welcoming. The facility itself is huge, offering several different levels of care and amenities. The facility was clean, organized, and comfortable. The staff was friendly and seemed to interact appropriately with residents. The residents that I passed in the hallway during my visit appeared to be clean, groomed, and happy for the most part. The doors leading to the outside of the facility were secured, which is beneficial for safety issues regarding residents suffering from diseases that affect memory. Residents were eating lunch when I arrived and seemed to enjoy their dining experience, but the staff in the dining room seemed less than enthused about their job. However, the food looked and smelled appealing and the options seemed to be healthy. My overall opinion regarding this facility is that, although expensive, Pennybyrn at Maryfield is an excellent establishment to consider when choosing an assisted living home for a loved one.

Nurses and staff are friendly and helpful, however it's more dedicated to helping patients maintain rather than improve. While my friend used to be doing physical therapy to help her walk and talk in an assisted living situation, this nursing home only requires enough physical therapy to keep her alive and wheel-chair bound, though she is capable of walking on her own if need be. Also, many patients are left alone for hours on end in "tv rooms" and it's difficult to find staff in an emergency (save for ringing an alarm)

This is a truly wonderful facility. It is very well taken care of and is very modern. I feel that the staff takes excellent care of the residents and goes out of their way to make sure they are comfortable. There are many activities for residents who are more active. We ultimately decided to provide care for my grandmother at home but this facility was one of my top choices.
