I recently had the opportunity to visit Atria Southpoint Walk with my mom, and I was thoroughly impressed. The cleanliness of the facility is remarkable; everything is meticulously maintained, creating a welcoming and comfortable environment. During my visit, it was heartening to see the residents so happy and engaged. They seemed to genuinely enjoy their time there, which speaks volumes about the community atmosphere. Stacy and the staff were incredibly helpful with all my inquiries, taking the time to answer questions and provide detailed information about the services available. Their dedication to resident care is evident and greatly enhances the overall experience. The dining room and common areas are inviting and well-appointed, providing great spaces for socializing and relaxation. The apartments themselves are a good size and exceptionally clean, offering a pleasant and functional living space. Overall, Atria Southpoint Walk stands out as a fantastic senior living option, with a focus on cleanliness, resident happiness, and exceptional staff support.

We toured Atria Southpoint Walk. We were there long enough so that we observed quite a few of the people who are living there now, and they seemed pretty cheerful compared to the other places we've been. The access to walking trails is very good there. We loved the fact that there was a kitchen in each place, which was nice. The lady that we talked to, I think her name was Stacy, she's a good communicator and she listens and knows that not everybody has the same concern. You could tell that it wasn't a memorized spiel. She was reacting to us, and that helped a lot. It's an attractive space.

We went to Atria Southpoint Walk. The tour was great. They were very good. They showed me everything and told me about all the different services that they offer, which I wasn't interested in at the time. The rooms were nice sized. They provided everything. They have game rooms and eating facilities. They have the whole works there as far as the amenities go. They have exercise rooms. The dining area was set up very nicely. They provided a good array of food. I just wasn't that much into it because I'm very independent. I would provide everything for myself. They had the rooms and they had the cottages and their own little patios out there. The outdoor was pretty standard. The staff was extremely good, very informational, very courteous, and very professional.

I liked Atria Southpoint Walk. I thought they offered a nice service that was very inducing for me to sign up. They seemed to be more focused and a more mature organization that's been running longer, so their things seemed to be a little cleaner, a little sharper, a little friendlier, and the staff a little more knowledgeable. I would immediately move into them, except that I don't think I'm quite old enough or senior enough to blend in as well with them as they were ready to receive me.

I toured Atria Southpoint Walk. The location was beautiful and the facilities were great. It was very close to the grocery and stores because there was a mall a few blocks away. If they need to go to the doctor, the dentist, or they want to go shopping, they would provide transportation. The staff was very nice, very courteous, and helpful. The food was not appealing at all, so I did not try having a meal there. The place was clean. It looked well taken care of. You could see that the maintenance was very good. They had a garden patio at the front that had benches. Some of the residents stay outside when the weather is nice.

I toured Atria Southpoint Walk. The place seemed nice and very friendly. It seemed like the people that ran it were nice and caring. They had a game room, a library, an exercise room, billiards, ping pong, and a multipurpose room which can be used as a chapel. It was rather small, but it seemed like the people there were all very friendly. It seemed like they had ways for people to gather together. I felt like they really work at making it a very pleasant experience for people that live there. The food was not bad. It was tasty. Because they provided three meals a day, maybe I would like to see more healthy choices. They tended to have things that were fried. The facility was a little older, but the building seemed well-managed and clean.

Atria Southpoint Walk is a much newer facility. The prices are quite a bit higher because it's a newer facility. The apartments are substantially bigger. It's a step-up and everything is included. They have a bus to take you places. They have a bus for activities and for going to doctor's appointments or whatever. They have lots of activities. They have lots of different rooms to handle some of those activities. They have a library, a theater room for movies, a place where they can play bingo and billiards with pool tables, and a nice area for playing bridge or more quiet activities. They have quite a few common areas. They also had outside common areas like a place where you could grow and have a whole little area for your family, like your private backyard, it was nice. The layouts of the apartments were nice. They have several options. They have some that have these small rooms or some that have little balcony porches. It's a nice set of options that you could look at, which is nice. They have menus that they put on the table that have several options. I feel like it's probably going to be pretty excellent. If you look at the menu and read, 'salmon and this and lemon pepper chicken,' it was nice. It sounded like it would be quite nice on a plate, and it looked appetizing. I only met the front receptionist and the salespeople. I also saw cleaning people. They clean the apartments once a week. I saw a cleaning staff in the hall with their things, and I saw maintenance people working and replacing things. I saw a lot of activity. It's a little too expensive for some people, but it's good. If you have the money and can afford to live there, it's a beautiful place.

I toured Atria Southpoint Walk and they were amazing. It's a little bit older and the rooms were smaller, but the staff was great. We even had lunch with them. If anybody is looking for a place somewhere in Durham, I would highly recommend them. The independent living apartments have a full kitchen. They have a stove, a microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher. So, they're really nice. The staff definitely knew a lot because they've been doing this for a very long time. They were very thorough and knowledgeable about what to do and prepared us for what we're going to do. We got involved with Joyce, and she was good. There's just an awful lot of walking that you have to do there. It was a long venture to get down to a room.

Atria Southpoint Walk was a much better place as far as the appearance. It was cleaner and looked after better. They have the same amenities as the others, but the quality might be a little bit more upscale and better. The only drawback was I would have some security concern. It's right on the road and it's not a gated community, so anybody could walk to different cottages. The main building where the apartments are would be locked, so the apartments would probably be more secure, but the cottages (which we would be more interested in) are sort of on their own.

When I did the tour at Atria Southpoint Walk, I didn't actually have anybody take me on the tour that was acquainted with everything. There was a woman who worked there, but it was not her job. The marketing people, one was off, and the one that was supposed to lead me was busy. So, I never got the full information. I don't know how much it costs or anything. I got walked through the place and my initial impression of it was I didn't like it. But then after comparing it to the other places that I've been, it's actually moved to my top two right now. I was looking for sort of an exercise room, and they had a PT office. There was equipment in there, but I wasn't really sure if you could just go in and use it. They've called me a time or two to follow up on it and to see if I had any further questions, so I was disappointed with that, because that was one of the things I was looking for. However, they did have nice but quite a few public rooms for cards, meetings, and movies, that sort of thing. Two meals a day are included, but I didn’t try the food. I didn't get in until after lunch. A lot of the furniture looked worn, the wooden chairs and tables, everything needed to be replaced or refinished. I only really had interactions with a couple of them. I saw a couple as we were walking around. We were introduced and everybody spoke. I didn't see anything untoward with the staff. She didn't have a nametag on, and she told me her name once, which I do not remember. There really wasn't anybody, knowledgeable, to give 100 percent knowledge of all that could answer all my questions that was available. The facility did look worn.

I visited Atria Southpoint Walk, and I was very, very impressed. I could not eat lunch as a guest in the dining room with the residents, but we did eat lunch in the private dining room. The food was delicious. The server was wonderful; he had started working there at 19. His grandmother had been a patient or a resident there. Then I did a tour of a couple of the rooms, just to see the 2-bedroom and a 1-bedroom; I was very favorably impressed. I saw the outdoor area. I saw the dining room, and the two units that would be available to choose from. We also talked about some of the amenities that they have lined up. I'm handicapped so that limits how much walking we did. They let me get in a wheelchair and rolled me to some of the places. I can't imagine seeing anyone that will top this. I was there at lunchtime. They had a resident who came down and was playing the piano. While I was waiting, I sat in the sitting area and enjoyed listening to the piano. They gave me copies of their activity sheets to show what they have planned for a month for the residents to do. They showed me what things are available for me to take part in, if I were living there.

We went to Atria Southpoint Walk. We only met three people and they were extremely helpful. The rooms were pretty big compared to a lot of the other places. Everything was nice and new looking. I didn't hear a bunch of people yelling and screaming through the halls, but that was independent living. Well, it's convenient. You're near Southpoint. There's another shopping center, drugstore, and there's another grocery store close by.

My mother lived at Atria Southpoint Walk for 2 years in independent living and during that time I saw her laugh more, move better and come out of her previously declined (physically and mentally) state. The staff was always helpful and kind to her and she loved the outings and group activities as well as having meals with other people. As a daughter, I couldnt ask for a better environment for my mother!

We chose Atria Southpoint Walk for my mom because they have this little efficiency apartment, while the other facilities only had a room. It's right outside of my neighborhood too, so that makes it more convenient for us. We've worked with them for a little bit, and we finally moved her and it came out good. We were able to stay all day with her, got her things unpacked, and got her situated. A lot of the people that work there came in and met her just to get to know her a little bit, which was great, because it made her feel more comfortable. The staff is very nice, very helpful, and they kind of get what it's like for someone to have to move in there. We brought lots of her things and her furniture. She loves books and all kinds of nature stuff, so we brought them in too. Her apartment looks very nice. My mom is very particular about food, so it's great to have a chef there. She had some of the food yesterday, and she said it's pretty good, a lot better than the rehab center that she was in before. They're bringing the meals in styrofoam containers to the resident's room right now and it would even be better if they could all eat in their dining room. The facility is very clean and well kept. The flowers outside makes it look pretty. There's one person that was a little harder to work with though, she was the clinician. She didn't help me to fill out the forms of things that I couldn't really answer because I'm not a doctor. That was the only thing that was a little difficult to me; the other ones really helped me. Because of COVID, they're not able to use their social rooms. These are rooms where you could go in and sit with other residents, chat with them, or watch TV or play games. They still do a lot of activities now, like they have a trolley cart that comes through for New Year's if people wanted cocktails. They also do some fun stuff, like bingo and other games.

Atria Southpoint Walk don't have much if any health care. The room looked very nice but it was like a motel; I didn't get a homey feeling about it. They had a program of activities but it was not at all impressive compared to others. Also it was in a busy intersection; there were lots of traffic around it.

I'm a resident of Atria Southpoint Walk independent living. They prepare your meals and always have activities to go to every day. We have meetings, a book club, bingo, jewelry making, and go on walks. The staff members include people in charge of the activities, an executive director, business manager, chef, and cook. I have a one-bedroom apartment with a kitchen, living room, bedroom, bath, and a washer and dryer. They also provide cleaning service every other week.

I didn't like Atria, it had both little cottages and apartments, but there wasn't any private outdoor space. It's very institutional. The quarters were very long, there were not many elevators, and unless you're near the dining room, you had a lot of walking to do. The residents complained about having to wait for elevators if they weren't able to use the stairs. I think the units were small, not every unit had laundry facilities, and you either pay somebody to do your laundry, or you could use their laundry room in different places there. I had lunch there, and the lunch was OK. I did like that they had community rooms scattered about, where you could play cards or have a book club, but they also used hallway space for that, which did not appeal to me.

The one that really stood out to me was Atria Southpoint Walk. The staff was very nice. The rooms were a nice size with a fully equipped kitchen and had a lot of storage including walk-in closets. What I found that I liked best was that it was called either a village or cottage that has a garage, and the community fee was reasonable. The food was very good, and the menu was good. Anything that you want to do is there. They have transportation to various places, housekeeping with linen washing and personal laundry, and they also have the washer and dryer hook-up in each room, so you don't have go down the hall. When they clean the room every two weeks, I think the help changes your bed and washes your linen. It was just very nice. They don't actually provide the washer and dryer, they have the hookup and you could provide your own washer and dryer. They have a full-size kitchen, plus you get two meals a day, and they have a salad bar. They provide flexible transportation, a doctor that makes house calls, and a front desk staffed 24 hours a day. They didn't have a pool, but they said that they could arrange for water aerobics.

Atria Southpoint Walk was quite nice; however, their prices were more than I could afford. Their rooms were quite nice, but they were overpriced. They provide transportation, but I drive my car, so that is not something I need. The staff treated me quite well. They were friendly, but not extremely friendly like the people at the other facility. They didn't invite me to eat there. People seemed happy, but they were pretty occupied. I went at lunch time, so they seemed busy, but overall, the atmosphere seemed great.

We also visited Atria Southpoint Walk which was really nice, and it seemed to have a lot of active residents. Atria Southpoint Walk is a very nice place. If you wish to stay there for a month, you don’t have to have a long term contract, and that is fine. We went to Atria Southpoint Walk, and my mom likes it a lot. Everyone was very helpful. They were well-organized and thoughtful, and they obviously paid a lot of attention to the experience they want to create for the people that live there. The only thing I think mom didn't like about it was that in their one-bedroom apartment, she would have to leave her bedroom to go to the bathroom; she'd actually have to go out in the hall in the middle of the night. The staff people were great. The people there seemed like they were happy, healthy, and very friendly.

I think a friend recommended Atria for my mother. They have a lot of amenities, and they have a lot to offer. It was very clean, and it looked kind of new. It wasn't very old like some of the other places. This one looks like brand new. It is five years old, but it looks brand new. The space was big. It was like you had your own apartment. The space was larger than most. I saw a lot of activities. The staff was excellent. I didn't meet anyone that wasn't pleasant. The grounds were good, and parking was not a problem.

Atria Southpoint Walk has larger apartment units with more square footage. They have three floors of units. They just had a turnover of staff. The new director came from Florida, and she seems to be exceptionally gracious and generous. She came on the day that the service didn't show up. She changed my parent's bed linen. They are much more generous than the last administration. People complain about the food there. They have a chef, and it is not home cooking. It is not appetizing. They do have an activities calendar, and they have quite a few activities. My parents participated in the bridge club. They had a Broadway play production. They have a book club, men's club, and a wine and cheese club. They have a very good social agenda to keep people active. They also take field trips to the local area. They have transportation to their doctors and to shopping.

Atria Southpoint Walk was very, very nice. They also have cottages and I saw one of them and it was extremely nice. It was probably about the same as the cottages here, which are very large. It wasn't as attractive, but if they had something available, it would have been on my list of possibilities. I didn't find the staff as friendly as the ones here, but most of them were nice except for one that didn't get back to us and put us off. I did not taste the food and I know they had a chef. I was probably attracted to the size of the cottage and the location. It was a good location.

I had been to the Atria before, and it's very beautiful. The rooms are very nice, and the people are very friendly and helpful. It's handicap-accessible, and they can wheel his chair into the shower, but it's way too expensive for him at the time. Everything else is so great. What stood out was probably the elegance of the interior, and the drapes. It's all upscale. Everything is extremely nice quality, and the furniture is beautiful.

Their common areas have very lavish furnishings. They have a fireplace, and it was just very pretty inside. If there's one thing they need to improve, I think they need to add some more rooms to their location.

I visited this facility

Atria was really nice but very expensive. The rooms were nice and spacious. The facility was very clean and well maintained. It was very nice. I would recommend it.

I am a friend or relative of resident

This is the nicest of the independent and assisted living facilities that we visited, and my father decided pretty quickly that he wanted to live there. The staff are extremely friendly and competent, and go out of their way to help residents get settled and find activities that they would enjoy. The food is fair, as they keep recipes fairly bland. However the Sunday buffet is excellent with many choices for discerning appetites. The apartments are beautiful, and cleaning is provided in the rent on an every other week basis. The place is always clean and fresh smelling and there is always a calm, quiet atmosphere in the lobby and halls. Residents are very independent and sophisticated. Excellent for older parents who need to relocate to be near their children.

Atria advertises that their food is excellent. However, the food at Atria Southpoint Walk, Durham, NC has not come close to the claims. Atria bought out the Durham facility July 1st, 2013, and the food is still horrible. Small portions, no seasoning, overcooked meats. The list could go on & on. Occasionally there is a good dessert. Since mealtime takes approximately 1 1/2 hours each (because of extremely slow service), twice a day, it is a big part of the day. The food is so bad that my parents are embarrassed to invite friends over & I would not in good faith recommend Atria to anyone.

I visited this facility

It's excellent, the staff was excellent, and the facility is beautiful. It was brand new at the time my mother-in-law went in there. Compare to other places I've seen around Durham, there's just no comparison. It's much, much nicer.

The facilities and amenities were excellent and the staff was second to none. From the dining room to the lobby to the bar area (a favorite of many residents, it seems) all of the public areas have a warm, open feel to them. The apartments themselves come with first rate equipment such as refrigerators, stoves and ovens. The staff is always available and always helpful. Medical staff and maintenance were always pleasant and efficient whenever they were called upon. Most importantly, the residents seem to be a happy group from a wide variety of backgrounds. This made all social gatherings into great times. If there is one complaint, I would say it is the food served in the dining room. Though healthy and plentiful, it often lacks in flavor. It is probably par for the course, but could stand to be improved. All in all, Alta Walk was a wonderful experience for my grandmother and for those of us who visited her.
