My mom is at Autumn Care. They're very attentive to their clients. My mom is in a room by herself. It has its own bathroom with a walk-in shower. They have a really nice physical therapy room, a salon, and several living rooms where families can gather in very large spaces. They have one room up front that has a baby grand piano. From time to time, families go in there and can play. The staff is very good.

Food is horrible and cold. They were serving residents melted ice cream from a freezer that was broken. Torally understaffed. There is no 24 hours emergency number . It was 28 degrees at night and my mother's heater broke. She had just had COVID pneumonia. She started texting me at 3am and she was shivering. I called every nurses station and the phone number thet all had fir emergency rang and rang. None of them had the authority to move her to a room with a working heater. She was shivering from 3am until 8:30 am until the admin office actually opened. Do not take someone you love to this facility.

Most cna’s surly and not happy about their jobs. Their being short handed is not my problem. Shout out to “Lo” and Sarah! They were great. Nursing staff excellent. All of them. Shout out to Rebecca and Lucretia and Angela! PT, OT folks are excited. Compassionate and caring. Rooms are ok, but housekeeping came once in 6 days. No linens changed or garbage emptied. I had to do my own. Food is hit or miss. Menu is not followed and items are missing if you get a menu. I chose this place for its beauty in the pictures. Don’t judge a book by its cover. They could have done better with their help.

The facility at Autumn Care Cornelius is lovely. And it ends there. My steady and happy father was misdiagnosed as bipolar so they could put him on a drug called Lamictal. This allowed the staff to ignore him because he was sedated. Medicare allows a certain percentage of patients to be on these drugs, but if they are diagnosed as bipolar or schizophrenic they don't have to report it to Medicare. See recent article on the NYTimes about the dramatic increase in this type of diagnosis. When they learned we knew about the diagnosis, and the Lamictal, this info disappeared from his records. My father was left lying in urine and feces till the skin on his buttocks shredded. He had a bladder infection that was not treated. He had a bad reaction to the Lamictal: hallucinations, confusion, bloody rash on his back, whole body itching, constipation, heartburn and vomiting, arm swelling, nightmares, muscle weakness, slurred speech. He was starving because he was unable to hold a fork to eat and kept vomiting. I was there at Christmas and dinner was cold chili on a plate to be eaten with a fork. The staff was impolite and uncaring, probably because they were so overworked. As individuals I hope they are all good people, but they were in a situation that did not bring out the best in the staff. This likely came from corporate policy, not the individual nurses and CNAs. I pray for the staff and patients everyday - I do not want anyone else to go through this terrible experience. We saw that dad was dying so we rented a wheelchair and lifted him into it and took him to hospice care. Four months later he was dismissed from hospice and he is thriving.

Dreadfully under staffed, mom was left laying in her excrement when staff failed to respond to numerous request. Food was typically left in the transport cart and when arrived to rooms was cold. Doctors orders for treatment were sometimes followed and depended in the nurse on duty. Facility admin used Covid as an excuse not to leave main entrance open as noted on the info sheet upon check-in. If you showed after the front desk left for the day, 5pm, it could take up to an 45 minutes for someone to show.

Autumn Care is a wonderful, pretty, very clean, and new building, but it seemed to be lacking in professional care. The staff was friendly. In the 20 days my friend was there, he was constantly complaining about the meals.
