I went to The Magnolia last week just to do a walk-through. The staff members were very accommodating. They offer a memory care unit, which is specifically what I'm looking for for my dad, who suffers from dementia and Alzheimer's, so that part of it was great. There was nothing extraordinary about the place. It did not seem to be very lively. It didn't have what I was looking for as far as the care I would want for my dad. The staff members were very good. One of the directors who I have been speaking with is very knowledgeable and forthcoming with all of the information. The rooms that I viewed were two-bedroom hospital rooms. There weren't like apartments or anything like that. They were hospital-type rooms. They showed me the area where they would have their lunch, and they showed me the TV room. All of the residents were in the TV room. Both of those areas were very small and confined.

I toured The Magnolia. I liked the lady that showed me the facility. She was so nice and she was the person in charge of that. I like the fact that when I went in there they did have a COVID incident, but when I went in, I was hand-sanitized, I wore shoes and I was masked. And they were very conscientious. I would have picked this place if it wasn't so far between my brother and me. There was a behavior incident there, and I liked the way they redirected it. I liked the way they handled the situation. I like their philosophy on outdoor activities, and they had a nice sheltered area out back. I feel like because of COVID, they weren't able to do some of these things. I liked the attention they had, but the place did not look up to par at the time, and they were painting and renovating. I could tell they were very caring. I liked the fact that the staff called me back and cared, and sat down with me and asked about my mom's preferences. She asked a lot about my mom. She just wants to know her likes and dislikes and how she could make her happy in transition.

I have a relative that lives in the memory unit the place is bad. The food they serve is cold and usually not cooked enough. The place stinks and a patient soiled herself very badly so instead of a shower the staff washed her off and put her back to bed what a shame.

The Magnolia is the only facility in our town that accept dementia patients. I am not satisfied with my father's care and comfort there. I wish I was able to make other arrangements. I was there one day at dinner time and the food that they had served them was almost raw meat. I complained to the caregivers there. They went and get the director and she came in the dining room and apologized profusely. Then she made the workers collect all the plates. Although most of the patients had already eaten the food, my father had not. Later on, the director brought the dietitian or whoever was in charge of the kitchen came to me to apologize, too. ?
