My friend moved into Brookdale South Park. It's a memory care facility, totally memory care. It's very homey-like. They have their own rooms, but the rooms are very small. And it does have a bathroom, but no shower. So they have to go through a whole shower or a bathtub. Interaction with the staff is good most of the time. My friend doesn't go to any of the activities. They don't have that many. They have a beauty salon and a lady comes once a week. They have an outside little courtyard that they can go out to, but it's totally fenced in. But they have a little sidewalk around. It's a pretty good walkway, it's like oak. But she doesn't get out and walk because she's got a bad hip. And, usually, the staff is not out there to walk with them because it seems like they don't have enough staff. There are four or five different halls. I mainly just go to my friend's hall. She's on the garden path hall. They're all named something different. Each hall has its little dining room, which is nice. They don't have a big, huge one. It's memory care. They get to know the people that are in their dining room, and the food is good. They cook the food there.

My dad was at Brookdale South Park. There wasn't really anything for him that he could participate in. There were some activities, and I saw a few of the residents painting or making a picture or something, but that was the only thing I saw the whole time he was there. They had a minister that would come in, but unless you had somebody that would roll you down to the minister, then you didn't get to participate, so my father never got to participate, but he would have liked that. He would have liked the singing and the listening to the message, but no one ever rolled him down there. They were very short of staff. I would not say it was clean, but the layout was fine. The food seemed to be OK, but it was the same menu three or four times a week. There wasn't any variety. The rooms were fine. They were one level. There was plenty of space in each room. However, they did not keep the residents separated, and that was my mother's biggest problem with them. There was a lady who kept going into my father's room and putting her stuff in there, taking his stuff and putting it in her room. And when we asked for them to be separated, they were not. So that made our visit even shorter than what we really anticipated it was going to be.

I went to look at Brookdale South Park. The rooms were small. The carpeting was excessively dirty. I was very disappointed with this facility. The staff was very nice and very knowledgeable. They have a lot of good activities.

We toured Brookdale South Park. It's a smaller unit, but it's all memory care. We were much more pleased with their memory care situation looking at it compared to the other place. They have very friendly staff, and the residents are very engaged (if they want to be). They had an activity program going on at the time so we could actually watch them in action in the activity room area where they had a table set-up. The people who were in there were having a good time. One of the residents came out and said, 'You haven't introduced me.' They filled us in about her a little later, and it was just interesting hearing what her background was. You could tell that the people enjoyed what they were involved in and what was going on (the social part of it especially). Of course, they weren't forced to go do this. There were residents who were in their rooms watching TV, resting, or whatever; they didn't want to go and participate in that that day. The rooms were nice. This facility also had outdoor space that was enclosed. They have safe areas, where residents could be outside for a while and could enjoy being out in the sunshine or out of the building for a little bit. Everything was in a secure area, so they couldn't wander off or anything like that. To me, it seems a little bit like an older facility. It was nice enough that there wasn't anything wrong with it, but it wasn't going to blow you away when you walked in. However, all the staff are very good and very friendly. Even when we were leaving walking through the parking lot, somebody who we hadn't even met spoke to us. He was a very friendly staff.

My mother just moved into Brookdale South Park. What made me move there was its close proximity to where mom was. She's in memory care and they were very helpful in getting us what we needed to move in. The staff seems very friendly and accommodating. She does not articulate really well, but she seems to be eating and she seems happy. The place is laid out to accommodate each person in their location. It is kind of set up like a wagon wheel and each area is labeled, so if you are able to comprehend where you are, then you will know where you need to go. It appears very clean. She is getting her value's worth for being there for such a short time. It is close to a hospital.

We did not like Brookdale South Park. We left with a bad feeling about it. It was dark and dreary. Their people were categorized by their level of need, and they were also grouped by neighborhood. It looked dirty.

Mom has been at Brookdale South Charlotte in the memory care unit for about two months now. The care giving team has been wonderful to my mom even though she can often be a challenge. They give lots of attention to the residents, treat them as we would want our loved ones to be treated, and are very good with communication to family. Although I am still not used to having my mom in memory care, the team has helped both of us to transition as best as possible.

Brookdale South Park required at least one month's payment. They didn’t show me a room and had a lot of residents just hanging around. It wasn’t a good feel for me. They weren’t too friendly, so I didn’t really want to go back. The staff was really busy. They had a lot of residents, so they definitely need more staff. They offered me something to drink and a piece of fruit. They were nice; it’s just that they were really busy. I don’t think they had the time to show me a room either.

We placed my mom in Brookdale South Park. They have great staff there. They’re attentive to what our specific needs for her care. It is secure environment. Overall, it is a great layout, and a friendly inviting environment for my mom. The dining room is nice. I haven’t tried the food myself, but it seems adequate. They have daily activities anywhere such as games, puzzles, arts, crafts, and music. They have daily activities that they can participate in.

Brookdale, we were looking at for my father, and that was three months ago. I liked the one at South Park. The staff was friendly, and the people were nice. I knew one of the little CNA's that works there because she is actually an old friend of my daughters. They were helpful, they've called back, and I've talked to a couple of them since. However, the facility was small and older. If I remember correctly, all the rooms were private rooms.

The dining area was not very impressive. Brookdale South is a little worn; it needed painting and decorating. It is a very small facility. The staff was friendly. I liked the way they did things, to try to make it interesting, but it was farther away and that was the reason I didn’t choose it.

Emeritus at South Park was very clean. They seemed to have a good program for memory loss patients. They had a good staff and good activities for patients there. Also one reason why I went there was because our memory loss doctor also visits there. Like the other facilities I visited, this one was exceptional as far as their staff and their programs for people with dementia or Alzheimer's.

Emeritus South Park is dedicated completely to memory care, which was what mom needed. The staff there was extremely helpful, very nice, and caring. The food was very good. It's very nice place. Mom has her own room, own closet, her own bathroom, and we were allowed to decorate her room for her.

Emeritus was very good, but they didn't have any room for mom. The staff was very helpful and nice. They took me on a tour; the place was very spacious and nice. The only thing that I didn't care for very much was that they didn't have a garden area.
