I’ve recently moved into Brookdale Meadowmont. It is a friendly, small place, so the staff and the residents really know each other, and the people are very nice. The staff is very good. They have an activity director and some activities. There is a nice variety of activities here. They have a therapy room, OT and PT, but no pool. There’s a variety of different floor plans. It has a residential feeling. There are some shopping areas in close proximity.

I went to look at Brookdale Meadowmont. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. The facility looked clean. It is an older building, so it could use some updating. The food was OK. They gave me a handout stating the activities of the day, but I didn't actually see any going on when I was there. The rooms are a pretty good size. The showers are not handicapped accessible. You couldn't drive a wheelchair in there because the showers were small.

When it wasn't convenient for the management to keep my mother in their dementia unit they "hospital dumped" her. After 4 years and nearly $300,000 in fees they sent her to the emergency room with trumped up cause and then discharged her the same day. My sweet 90 year old mother, with dementia and in a wheel chair with no place to go. Management here is ruthless and uncaring. The only reason they get one star is the immediate CNA's and MedTech's were always very kind to her. Don't for a minute trust that management won't do what is best for them and not the resident. Also this is an "a la cart" facility which means they get you in at a low dollar but quickly increase fees 10-15% annually. In four years there were five different executive directors and the only leadership they could come up with is "hospital dumping". The docs at UNC emergency room told me this isn't unusual for this facility. BEWARE AND STAY AWAY. This facility is a long way from the old "Carolina House".

Brookdale Meadowmont was excellent. The place is very good from what I saw. The rooms were nice and the dining area looked fine. They have a place to do crafts, a meeting room, and the memory unit was separate.

Brookdale Meadowmont was older, had three stories, and was more like an apartment in Manhattan or New York, not an apartment in a rural area. They had a room for everyone on each floor, and the eating area was nice. I liked that they had salon services for my aunt and that it's bright with lots of light inside the building. They had two nurses, and the manager seemed to be very straightforward and not hiding anything. They seemed to have a lot of activities to help people who want to do activities. They invited us to a barbecue cookout where they bring the neighborhood to join and introduce people. They also had a senior house where someone would come and play piano or play music or dance. Once you're in the room, it's the same as other places. Outside, it didn't feel as nice.

My mom has been living at the Carolina House since July 2013. I can not say enough about the personalized care she has had since she has been there. When she arrived, she was in trauma. My dad had just passed, she left her lovely home in Virginia and she had beginning stages of dementia. We started out at Carillon in Durham. It was a disaster and my mom began to decline quickly. Knowing that she was not receiving the individualized care she needed, we began looking around. Carolina House was the answer to our prayers. The intense support she had when she first arrived, the love and personal attention she felt from every single staff member, the activities, the meals and the connection we had with supervisors and nurses/therapists were just some of the highlights that I will mention. Little by little my mom began to adjust to her new life and now is thriving in the community. She has friends and family visits often. What is most significant about the Carolina House that I can say is that this is like home. When I visit, I don't feel like a stranger. I also just feel comfortable like I am visiting my mom at home. There are not a lot of airs and fancy outward appearances (with little substance behind them...beware of that). This is not about how someone "sells" you something. This place is just real good, everyday normal living where normal is extraordinarily comforting and loving. Also, just to say the med tech staff is very knowledgeable. Medication rounds run like clockwork at CH. At the other facility we were at, it seemed like it was a major complicated event every single time!! I was not even sure my mom was getting her correct meds there because honestly she was just a name on a card in a numbered room. That is not Carolina House for sure. We are thankful to all those at the CH!!!

Carolina House was another choice of mine, but it was just one big building, like a hotel. The facility was very clean. It was very nice. They were really welcoming. There was an Alzheimer's unit that was separate. The staff was very nice. They were great. I like the staff a lot. The rooms were actually very nice. They have high ceilings. The dining facility seemed good, too.

Carolina House is an excellent place, but it was a little farther away, and my wife needed a little more help. It was a newer facility, and the staff was very pleasant. The rooms looked very nice.

Carolina House reminded one of one's home, in fact, better than one's home in certain circumstances like library and what have you. It looked like a very comfortable place to associate with. I thought it was very clean, very nice and presented very well. The rooms looked adequate and the people that I talked with seemed competent. The staff was very good, very thorough, very open and very considerate. They had the usual card games and they had a little bus that will take them shopping and to various places.

Carolina House was not as close to our house, but it was close. This one was our first choice. If we have to move my parents today, that's probably where we will go. I like that it was actually smaller.

Carolina House was my first choice and it was the one I would have taken my mother hadn't they moved her to where she was at now. They also had a memory care unit. It was extremely impressive. When I went there, there were residents wandering all over the place and they were well dressed and they told us how much they loved it there. The gentleman while he was giving a tour saw a resident needing help, he stopped and helped that resident right that minute. He told me about the call bell system. I watched how fast the call bell was answered and that too was extremely impressive. It impressed me also that the residents actually had a board that made decisions about some of their activities and the improvements they made.
