I am a resident of Brookdale Chapel Hill Assisted Living. Initially, I was unhappy because I was probably not used to this kind of place, but I think as I've settled in, they have listened to the residents. At least once a week they invite us to make comments on everything from the food to maintenance to activities. When I first got here, they were having problems with the staff and they've certainly made an effort to improve all that, so I don't have any complaints now. I've managed to make it more comfortable by getting additional storage. I think because this place didn't have too much in the way of storage to put things away. I've addressed some of that by putting some rugs on the floor. So now I'm certainly more comfortable. The staff cares about us. They are attentive. When you need something, they do respond to it. So they hired a chef who is making things much better than when I first came here. They have an activity director who's very responsive to us and tries to listen to our suggestions. So, they hire maintenance people who are much better and get things done. So they've done a great job in improving things in the time I've been here. It's more like a studio apartment, but the room I'm in has a small kitchenette. I've purchased the microwave and the ice maker. They didn't provide that, but other than that I think I'm self-sufficient. It's very home-like. This place has two floors and each floor has three wings, and each wing is like a community because each wing has a dining room for maybe 8 or 10 people. You get to know them and they become like not a family, but we know enough about each other now that we're pretty friendly. So that atmosphere is better than being totally on your own. They encourage people to get to interact and know each other.

My mother in law lives here now. The staff is stellar! They are caring, communicative and supportive. I am exceptionally pleased that my Mother in Law's health has improved since moving here. Rooms are adequate and the facility is clean and bright. The food is ok. The activities are fun and the guest entertainment is great. The staff is the highlight, they are simply awesome!

The tour I had of Brookdale Chapel Hill Assisted Living went very smoothly. The sales director was very personable, very informative, and experienced. He was thorough in explaining the services, and I got a very good feel of the facility. It was an established facility, so there were more established landscapes around the buildings, which was very nice. The crepe myrtles were in full bloom and it had a nice feel to it. He showed us a bedroom, but it was a little bit smaller than I had envisioned. We saw the library. They were having an ice cream social at the time and the residents seemed to be in good spirits and engaged.

We used to live at Brookdale Chapel Hill. The grounds there were nice and the rooms were adequate. It's an aging building so maintenance was huge. The biggest complaint about the rooms that I had was that they had central heating and air conditioning for the building, and being able to control the temperature in your room was very difficult. The cleanliness was excellent and the staff was awesome. The staff that we worked with on a routine basis was caring, concerned, interacted well with people, and was patient. We had some people that were on their way to memory care, and they dealt with those people with such compassion. It was just nice to see that. They do outings, they go to the grocery, they have crafts twice a week, and art classes and everybody loves bingo and fitness. The food was very good, there was a little bit of an issue with it being salty at times, but other than that, it was excellent.

The tour at Brookdale Chapel Hill Assisted Living went great. It was kind of homey. It's a 2-story facility, but I had a favorable impression. The rooms all look pretty and nice. Everyone had the opportunity to customize their room, which I think is a positive. The person who gave the tour was quite exceptional and very informative. I didn't try the food. I saw their multiple dining areas, which I found to be very beneficial. You don't have to go walking all over the facility to get to the dining room. They have activities, music, and transportation to other venues. They would take some people to an outdoor lunch, external lunch, or some sort of cultural activities around the area.

My wife has moved into Brookdale Chapel Hill. I'm very satisfied with the experience we're having. I just wish I had tried to find a place sooner for my wife. I did quite a bit of research and they turned out to be the best prospect, and I'm glad we went there because it's worked out very well. I'm really impressed with the staff. They've been very, very responsive to anything that we've asked for. I'm talking about the management staff. Also the nurse assistants and the aides have been really, really very good in their daily care of my wife. The facility itself is very nice. As a matter of fact, that's one of the reasons I chose it after seeing a couple of other facilities; it's the nicest one I saw. My wife, due to her health, is immobile. She's not able to take advantage of all the entertainment, programs, and things that folks are getting together to do. She is simply unable to do those. There is so much going on and it is unfortunate that she can't, but I'm impressed with all the activities to do for their residents. For example, almost every afternoon there's some form of entertainment. They have entertainers come in either singing, playing the piano, and playing guitar providing a form of entertainment almost every afternoon in the week. It is worth the money compared to what other facilities I saw, which would have cost in the same neighborhood. I would say we're getting our money's worth.

I toured Brookdale Chapel Hill assisted living in person. The community looked very, very nice. Alison, the person that I worked with, was more than willing to answer all my questions and be very, very helpful. She was professional, courteous, compassionate, and willing to help me any way she could. It just was over my budget. She showed me the common area, and after I realized that the budget was not for us, I declined on going and looking anywhere else in the facility. It looked very well kept, clean, and smelled good. They were doing exercises in chairs when I was there. The outdoor spaces were very nice and well-kept, and it was decorated with Halloween decorations. It was very nice too.

Brookdale Chapel Hill was awesome. My mom is actually going to move in there, probably in July. They did great. The staff was wonderful, and they're actually updating the design and layout of the rooms specifically for her. So, they're doing what they need to do to make us comfortable with the design. I was very happy that they were willing to change things and meet my mom's needs. The room seemed to be large enough, but we only saw what we were getting. We did not see the others, so we didn't see any of the other floor plans. The menu looks well varied. They have a library; a beauty salon; daily fitness classes; on-site OP, PT, speech therapy, and nursing; and a wonderful backyard patio with nice flower gardens that the residents maintain. They have lots of activities, so they're very active and very engaged, and they seem to be happy. They also get three meals and two or three snacks a day. It would be better, though, if they had a pool or something, but they don't.

My sister picked Brookdale Chapel Hill because it's closest to where she used to live, and they let her have her cat. She's a long-term alcoholic and they let her have a couple ounces of alcohol a day, but they handle it. They lock it up and they hand it out slowly, so they can slowly wean her off. A lot of places won't do that. She had a doctor's order for it, and it is easier to do that for her than to just go to nothing all of a sudden. Everything is really good. I really like it. It's a great facility. When you walk in, it's like being in somebody's living room. It doesn't look like a nursing home or anything like that.

My sister recently moved in Brookdale CH from another facility that wasn't working. We visited several facilities in the Durham Chapel Hill area and found this on to be the best of the lot. We really like the lay out with the smaller dining areas for each of the halls. This allows the residents to get to know their immediate neighbors. It also prevents people choosing to sit alone at smaller tables. Another plus was how friendly and welcoming everyone was. The overall atmosphere was welcoming with both staff and other residents making a point of saying hi. They are paying attention to small details that matter. The administration staff make a point of being visible not just hiding in their offices like so many other facilities. They assign the same staff to be with your loved so they can become familiar with the care level needed. I live else where but was able to stay for at least 3 meals. The food was good with simple choices if the main meal was not to the residents liking. They made a point of trying to find what the resident liked as much as possible. My sister has a nice studio apartment with ample room and a private bath. While I won't be able to visit very often, the staff made it plain that her friends would be welcome to come visit as often as possible. They seem to have lots of choices of activities and are eager to accommodate other interests whenever possible. The activity coordinator is a friendly young woman who has lots of good ideas for different outings and activities. They have a doctor who comes in once a week and a nurse who is there during the week and on call when she is not there. She is responsible for the Med. Techs who distribute the medications. Again they seem to be interested in providing as individualize care as possible. I am hopeful that my sister will be happy at Brookdale for many years.

Brookdale Chapel Hill was a nice, clean, newer facility with spacious rooms. I intended to take my mother there, but they don’t accept Medicaid.

Brookdale Chapel Hill (formerly Wynwood of Chapel Hill) was very homey-looking, and it was reasonably priced, when you compare it to others. They had the type of room that we wanted for my mother-in-law, and it's a little bit larger than some of the other places. It's almost like a little studio apartment. She has only been in there for a few days, and we're still learning about it. They do bingo, bridge club, and they listen to music. They have small dining rooms, not one big, huge hall. They have a van, and they go on field trips, shopping to Walmart, movies, museums, or dinner.

I've got my mom in a place called Wynwood of Chapel Hill. All of the employees are very nice. On my initial visit, I felt very welcome; people were talking to me and asking me if I needed help, introducing themselves and telling what they did, so that was very helpful. The people were very responsive to my mom and made sure they were attentive to her needs when we had a conversation about what she would need and what she wouldn't need. The cleanliness of the facility was a plus, and the variety of the activities that they had and also the attention of the chef with the residents in regards to the food and what they cook wa great. The chef meets with them once a week to get feedback about the food, so that is pretty important. And their desire to take care of her for as long as they can was also a plus.

Wynwood has a unit for dementia. My mother has dementia. Right now, she's able to live in the regular part of the facility but as the dementia progresses, she will be able to transition into the adjoining area. My father will still be able to be near her. I'm about an hour and a half away from the location. It seems to be a very nice place; it's very clean and well-run. The only complaint either of my parents have about it is the food, which is not to my father's liking. I think my mother is fine with it. I know that they have movies available to see a couple of times a week and there is a sing-along type of activity that's available to them. My father is getting physical therapy. I know they have activities like flower arranging once a week. I like the fact that they were able to take things from their home and decorate these two rooms so that it feels more like home to them. The staff is very attentive to all of their requests. They are also aware of problems to make sure that there aren't any difficulties. They've just been real caring.

Very pleased with the excellent care my mom has had at Wynwood. Staff is attentive and go out of their way to attend to her needs. I am always updated with any changes and her doctor is always in communication with me about her health status. I have always found her clean and well dressed and happy with her life there. I have friends that pop in to visit her and they have given me excellent feedback. Mom says she enjoys the food and has even added weight . She has made friends with some other people living there and has her own social circle. Lots to do there and a great front porch!

I recently put my loved one in this facility for short-term care. I am very sad to report that the care here is disappointingly poor. My loved one needed much more care than this facility was able to provide. But beyond that there was a lack of communication among the care givers, medications were missed or well over 2 hours late. She was not bathed for over 5 days despite constant requests. The food was extremely poor. Even the long-term residents warned me of the problems and the food. There are multiple issues that were shocking and highly worrisome. On a good note, I think they are trying. I think the facility is clean and attractive. But the care for the individual is extremely poor. The focus seems to be on the bottom-line and not on the wellbeing of the resident. I could not recommend this facility at all.

We have my mother-in-law at Wynwood of Chapel Hill, and so far we are doing well. It's been a month now since she's been there. We chose this facility because we felt that the food was a cut above everywhere else, and they had a very active itinerary compared to some other places. Everybody is extremely friendly. The administrative staff were very accommodating. The rooms were much nicer than the rooms that I saw in other facilities. They have different activities, like they have religious services, they have arts and crafts, and they also have different card games.

My mother is in Wynwood Of Chapel Hill. There was a good feeling when I walked in. It is clean, welcoming, and very friendly. I'm happy with the facility as it is. I definitely recommend Wynwood. I like best the staff and their care. Their work attitude is great. They are really responsive and very attentive to my mom. They seem generally pleasant and happy. The facility is very clean. It is very well maintained. It is very pleasant, and it smells good. Activities - so far so good. They have a lot of things planned every day, though it is a little slow on the weekend.

It was a very nice place. I like it for myself but it was not suitable for my aunt. She needed more nursing care. The staff was very nice. The lady who showed me around was very gracious.

Wynwood was a nice place. They're pretty close to where we live. However, they're not going to work for us; the room that was available at that time was at the end of the hall. It seemed like it was a long walk for my parents to go to the activities.

We toured Wynwood of Chapel Hill and we find the place beautiful. They have a classy and medieval look. We love the place. They have all the things that you will need. The residents look really happy and I had a chance to speak with one of the residents. She's been there for almost 10 years now. She said she really love living in Wynwood. It shows with all the people who live there. This is one of the greatest assisted living facilities that we visited.

My father's oldest brother has always been a very active man and now that he is in his 80s he needed to find an assisted living facility where he could live life on his own terms. His only concession to the aging process was his mobility. Arthritis had robbed him of his vigor and freedom of movement, yet he prided himself on the fact that he could still do a lot of things on his own; he just needed some help with other tasks of daily life. Wynwood at Chapel Hill has provided him with a home and new life that he adores. We have visited monthly during the year that he has been a resident and we are so happy with his new living arrangement. He had just returned from a shopping trip to Trader's Joe when we made our last visit to see him. Of course he had to update us on the yoga classes that he is now taking. In fact this exercise program has even helped lessen the pain caused by his arthritis. Each day the seniors at Wynwood have a list of activities in which they can participate if they choose to do so. Meals are simply wonderful and the cooking staff always uses the freshest ingredients possible. In my opinion, these meals are better prepared and tastier than those dishes being served at a majority of local restaurants. I have eaten the grilled fish, roast chicken and perfectly cooked asparagus- and cannot say enough complimentary things about the talented chefs. These individuals can make low calorie, low salt recipes taste positively wonderful. My uncle has never been a fan of low sodium meals, but even he has now been won over by the healthy, tasty meals that he gets to enjoy each day. Kudos to this facility and each staff member!
