I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband is staying at Alamance Health Care Center for rehab. The staff is considerate. They care about what we ask them about what's next. They let me in on any plan that has to be done for my husband, and it's enjoyable. The cleanliness is fine. A lot of times you smell bleach and cleaners. His room gets clean and his bathroom. I feel satisfied with the cleanliness. I did try a beef stew that he had. He couldn't eat it all, so I tasted it, and it was fine. It was better than I thought it would be honestly. When I need to talk about something for him, even if it's just his Medicaid to talk to the worker, they're available. If not, they'll call me back the next day. They don't wait, so I do like getting to know things real quick.

When we first went into Alamance Health Care Center, we were kind of impressed with them, but as my mom stayed there longer, we were a little bit disappointed that she wasn't getting the care that we thought that she needed at the time. They did the basics, but there wasn't any real interaction with the residents. They needed to have more one-on-one care or personalized care. The place looked fair. It was clean, but the staff was not that helpful with the clerical end of the stay. Any time that we asked about paperwork or status, we always got the same answers that there wasn't any paperwork. So, we were kind of hesitant that we couldn't get anything in writing.

My grandpa has been in this rehab facility since January 21st. My poor grandma has been trying to get in contact with someone regarding her husband every single day, multiple times per day with NO response back. He now has tested positive for Covid-19... which for a place that doesn’t allow a single visitor is a whole other issue. Please tell me how visitors aren’t allowed BUT 2 strangers can be roommates with no barrier between them and no mask? Please tell me how visitors aren’t allowed BUT this facility can hold a job fair inside for strangers to come to. My grandma has called daily where they transfer her call and no one answers. She calls back over and over and over again. My grandpa has dementia and is confused to begin with. After an entire week of not being able to speak to ANYONE, my grandma decided to show up and demand for my grandpa to be discharged this weekend. Obviously he was not able to go; but, miraculously 10 minutes later my grandma receives a call that he’s having to be transferred by EMS to the ER due to severe dehydration. I truly would not ever choose to send a single family member to this facility. It has been nothing but neglect from Day 1. Then adding on absolutely zero communication or regards to family members is pathetic and inexcusable. During this time that family members can’t speak or see the patient on the inside, you better believe the bare minimum should be to call these poor families back. The facility should be ashamed of itself. All my grandpa got out of this “rehabilitation” center is no progress to his broken hip, more confusion than he started with, and now, COVID-19, which with all of his previous medical conditions could kill him. Word of Advice: DO NOT SEND YOUR FAMILY MEMBER TO THIS FACILITY.

This place was awful. Room was not clean. First day my mother went 6 hrs without any bathroom help. And from there it kept getting worse.( She has physical disabilities, not mental. ) Of course family could only visit at window due to covid but could see the cold environment and rudeness from the window. They did not want to be bothered.. staff talked to her and room mate terrible and she was thrown in bed roughly by a male employee who said the nastiest things she said she'd ever heard and she thought she had heard everything! . Of course they denied any wrong doing. Zero rating! I wouldn't have a dog stay there!

Alamance kept things very clean, and my mother was very clean. She was eating, so I know they attended to her personally because at one point, she wasn't. There was only one other person in the room with her, but the room was always well-kept. A variety of my friends and ministers went there at different times, and they all said the very same things like “It is clean in there, she smelled clean like they take care of her, she looked good, and she talked well.” My sister and I would go there at various times as well as my daughters, and they all came back with the same positive review. They were very caring people. They seemed to be aware of what was happening. Not that someone stood guard at the door, but they were always moving about and checking in. My mother was falling here at the house, and the bed they had at Alamance was as close to the floor as you could almost sit on the floor. If she rolled down, she would just be a slight bump, maybe 4 inches from the floor, which I thought was very considerate because now they are not allowed to put rails on the bed anymore. So they lowered the bed down.

My Mother was at this facility and I can tell you first hand that she did not get even the basic care you would expect from a professional health care center. A few things that you should know are: they do not file any charges for transporting a patient to a doctor's appointment with Medicare. You will have to pay for it yourself. Some of the staff are very good especially the physical and occupational therapy staff while others could care less. They will let a patient sleep in a wet bed all night rather than help them to the bathroom. You can press the button for help but expect to wait at least 30 minutes before someone shows up if at all. A patients gowns and clothes will disappear and are never seen again. I realize that you have bad employees anywhere you go but in a facility like this it means that if you are not there all the time with your loved one then they are at the mercy of the staff. Some are caring and some just don't care at all! The worst thing of all is they only have one doctor for this very large facility and he only comes to visit on Fridays and only looks at the nurses reports. If the nurse doesn't mention anything in the report he won't even check on your loved one. Let me tell you I had to personally wait for hours to talk to the doctor about my Mom's problems because they cannot tell you when he might show up. Then I had to insist that he check on my Mom's condition because the nurse didn't mention any problems she was having. I waited until 8pm one night to see him. She passed away the next morning. I came to get her belongings the next morning and they could not even find them.

I visited this facility

MY mother in law went to Alamance Health Care for rehabilitation after a long sickness left her very weak. I'll just say she was only there six day and she needed at least three weeks of rehabilitation, but we decided we could do better at home. First of all the place is not clean the staff is horrible when she buzzed for help it would be at least 15 min if they came at all then they acted like it was a burden, they tried to give her meds that she didn't need and that wasn't ordered by Dr if she hadn't been in her right mind who knows what would have happened. Plus not once did the Dr over Alamance Health Care come to her to check on her and I mean never so when we decided we had to get her out of there of course there were no questions ask they just signed the papers and we left. I hope this helps someone to make a decision on not putting their loved one in this horrible place it should be shut down.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

We heard Alamance Healthcare Center was a good place. At that time, my mother was at the hospital because she fractured her back at the place she had been living, an assisted living, and I had to find a place quickly. A lot of people I know were there. The people are good. I've gotten to know quite a few of them. If you have a problem, you can go to them and talk about it and they try to fix it. The rooms are not dirty, but it's messy sometimes. I think they can do a lot better about the food.
