The staff is top notch and the atmosphere is very loving. You can tell that the staff truly cares about the residents. The dietary staff is very accommodating if someone wants something other than what is on the menu for that day. They take the health of their residents very serious. The management is always available to family and residents alike. As i have been to other facilities and seen horrible treatment of the residents i was so surprised at the feeling of family you get when you are here. They have resident activities throughout the day. From beauty shop days, bingo, movies and outside music acts visiting, to cable tv and day rooms with video games and bookcases of reading material there is much to do. They even have one on one activities for the residents who are too injured or sick to attend regular activities.. I would like to congratulate the staff and management for their latest State survey as they had no deficiencies or violations. If you must send a loved one for rehab you could find no better home, whether temporary or long-term. Definitely a 5 star rating.

My husband, who had dementia was taken to Lifecare so that I could have some respite from caring for him. While the people there seemed very nice, it became apparent that he was not cared for and couldn't speak for himself. A CNA from hospice went to bathe him. He wanted water and drank 1 1/2 pitcher's full at one time. I don't know for sure, but I suspect he was brought food and then expected to feed himself. Several times I was there, the food was left for my husband and his roomate. Neither could feed themselves. When he came home, his teeth had visible scum on them. There was no attempt to brush his teeth as his toothbrush was still sealed in cellophane. I wouldn't trust them to care for a goldfish. My husband died less than a week later. I feel the lack of care hastened his death.

The Life Care staff was so good to our mom and our family! They treated her wonderfully and was there anytime she needed them. Physical therapy was awesome with her too! Very caring atmosphere, clean facilities, good food. Highly recommended for anyone.

My husband has just completed a 20 day stay at Life Care of Banner Elk. I was very pleased with the staff and his accommodations. The food was very good 90% of the time. Staff was attentive and knowledgeable. There are a lot of activities for the patients that are able to participate. This is a kind loving place where the staff really love the patients. When the new renovations take place this will be a very up to date facility. I was able to visit the kitchen, very clean, laundry facility, very clean and cleanliness for the entire facility inside and out. I highly recommend Life Care to anyone that needs assistance.

I didn't like Life Care Center of Banner Elk. It seemed dark, and the staff wasn't as interactive, but it's definitely secure.

I just couldn't manage my daughter, and Life Care was suggested to me by another facility. It is very comfortable, very pleasant, and rather new. The staff could not be better, and I'm just really pleased. She is in a private room, and she has got a view of the mountains outside. She has a nice flat screen TV on the wall and just a comfortable room. If she gets out of the bed, the alarm goes off. She is near the nurses' station, and they just come running if the alarm goes off. The food is good, and she is mostly on a puree diet now. They have bingo and lots of other interactive things like that. Sometimes she goes, sometimes she doesn't. This is a Christian organization. Everybody has such a great attitude, and the director and nurses are just fabulous. They have different churches and groups come.

They took care of my mother there and everything but the it's more like a hospital type of thing. The staff was great. It's just that they have so much on their plate. They have their hands full. They have people there that are really really in a bad shape. My mom is still mobile. She has Alzheimer's but she's still mobile. She can have conversation still. They did take care of her there but it's just a different situation. It's just a dark and very gloomy place. She was afraid there. I feel like she is not a fit with Life Care.

My grandfather has been in Life Care of Banner Elk for 3 years. He couldnt be happier. The staff treat him with total respect and are always there to provide him with any assistance he needs. The nurses are calm in serious situations and very helpful and knowledgable based of of my questions and experience. My grandfather is very happy but complains that there are a few nurses who dont really change his bed pan out as often as they should. I think that the staff should do more screening and require more qualification for employees to ensure a more insured wellbeing of residents like my grandfather. Other than this complaint, his linens and clothes are always fresh and he never seems to have any other problems. Overall, i would recommend Life Care of Banner Elk.
