Dad is at Vestal Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for long-term care. It is located in a quiet beautiful area, surrounded by trees. The staff is very caring, but I think they are understaffed, just like any other nursing home. Dad has his own room with a bathroom and it's nice. They have private rooms for families to gather in and lounges on each floor. They have outdoor spaces for the residents to walk around. My father raves about the food there, and it's the only thing he enjoys at this point.

My mother is at Vestal Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She's doing pretty good. She went in there initially for a rehabilitation after a bout with pneumonia. She's 96, and so after the hospital stay they recommend it. She needed a certain amount of time to rehab in the rehab center, so that's why we chose Vestal. There were only two choices, it seemed like it was the nicer of the two. And then overtime they moved her out of a skilled nursing regular rehab into like a memory unit, because she has some mild dementia. She seems to be getting better. I think with the rehab center it was pretty good. I'm not sure if memory is their specialty, but she seems to be doing OK. She says the food is pretty good and they do have activities for memory patients. The staff in her unit seems pretty good. I haven't been very impressed with the staff, like the administration, I don't think they're very communicative. But people actually doing the caretaking seemed OK. Because of the COVID they don't let people into the center. They don't have like a long-term rate. In other words they have a daily hospital, a daily rehab rate, which is fine when you're out of the hospital and you're in Medicare and all that. For the memory patients I think they have little activities to keep them busy. I don't think she's participated in a lot of them, which is probably more of her fault than theirs.

I visited Vestal Park, which is a brand-new rehab community. The only reason we're not there is because they're full and there's no room. The place was warm and welcoming.
