Menorah Park has a memory care facility and that's where Mom is. The people are doing a great job with her. She's doing fine, and she's happy and cheerful. It's a very good community and it's immaculate. The food is relatively bland, but it's OK. They take her to do puzzles and participate in sing-alongs. The staff is great. They get her to do as much as she possibly can. The facility is top quality.

My aunt moved to Menorah Park of CNY. It's not working at all. She's fallen six times. Usually, when you go there when she was on the second floor, I believe it was, the aides just sat in the nurse's station. There were none of them out with the patients. It's a terrible place. The staff was rude. The facility is incompetent. The rooms are hospital-like. They say there are activities, but I never saw any. They're way understaffed and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody.

I toured Menorah Park of CNY. It is a good option for me. They have a lot of good amenities. The place was clean. The rooms were kind of like dormitory rooms, so I wasn't impressed with that. But it's very, very livable. You could be happy there, but I just chose a different place. The staff who gave the tour was very good and very knowledgeable. I saw the menus and all the activities for the month.

The facility is attractive, and would lure anyone in. The residents rooms are a fair size. You have a choice of a room with a shower. Furniture from home is encouraged to make the room personable. Maintenance will hang photos as needed. Housekeepers have limited duties, but the woman does it well. The food is nothing to brag about. I had heard so many positive activities going on, and saw acquaintances photos of events. I was very disappointed when our family member was settled in. The activity programs are very weak, if lead at all. There was a change in staff since the events I heard and saw. We were crushed. There were family events, clubs, community trips. The fun left this place. As far as staff, I am not impressed at all. The Inn is assisted living where residents deserve more than they’re given. Staff has attitudes, they’re lazy, and they’re on their phones. They might perk up if family is visiting. I’m disappointed with the place. It’s about money and filling rooms up. I have no other choice at this time.

We visited Menorah Park of CNY. We spoke about memory care, but we visited the assisted living, which is The Inn. They're very, very well kept. The rooms were larger. The residents had many places they could meet. The lounge areas were a fairly good size. The staff seemed happy, which was important to us. If you like your job, you got to be happy. The sales department was really good. Their security was better than in any other place. You had to check in and they took your temperature and all that stuff to protect the residents. They had everything everybody else has and the views was much better, too. No matter what room you may have been in, you had a very nice view. It's very calming. The staff was great. The facilities were impeccable.

This is no longer one of the better nursing homes in the area. Only a handful of CNAs and nurses do their job well or treat the residents with compassion. The very few who are good are really good. The large majority are really bad and less than caring. Even when fully staffed, call response times are frequently 45 minutes or more. Residents are left in the common room for hours. Many are ignored as they call for help while the CNAs sit in the office on their cell phones and socialize. Many do not take Covid seriously. Too many wear masks like chin guards and enter quarantine rooms without PPE. Requests from supervisors for any outpatient appointments, discussion with doctors or therapists, even maintenance needs such as broken wheelchairs take weeks or months to be addressed. Administration makes empty promises and excuses. They are more interested in making money off their residents than caring for them OR their employees. A $25. gas gift card is their idea of giving incentive to 3 workers who have shown perfect attendance and have their name entered into a drawing. No wonder the aides and nurses have low morale which shows in their work. They do not want to be there and it shows in their poor care for the residents. The therapy and rehab department colludes with the administration to turn short term rehab patients requiring skilled nursing care into long term residents. The head of the department displays no understanding of the challenges or needs of the elderly, does not have knowledge of rehab needed after a brain injury, and has no bedside manner or compassion whatsoever. This is not the place to go if you want your loved one to have any quality of life. Sad, because their reputation used to be good. Not anymore.

When my friend/relative moved in there was a Rabbi and services for the sabbath . It has been a long time since my friend has been able to enjoy one of the wonderful parts of Menorah. Another concern is that some of the aides are not showing up to work and this leaves many residents without assistance with medication etc. Is there a director on staff at all times? Assisted living is a place where all residence need assistance. They should never be made to feel that they are not getting what they need or are paying for. Please look into having all residents tended to and bring back the Friday night Rabbi so the Sabbath can be part of what many look forward to and enjoy. In advance, thank you for looking into the concerns and making your residents comfortable and cared for. . . .

The rooms are a good size. Once personal belongings are moved in, the housekeeper dusts and vacuums. If your loved one isn’t able to clean their room, don’t rely on the aides to. They won’t even acknowledge you’re there to visit. They sit in the open on their cell phones. So there is no interaction with residents or families. They’re fake. For some reason, day shift does not supervise showers. It’s all on the evening staff. My alert family member went 10 days without a shower, because evenings were “short staff”. Activities aren’t what they were, even without a pandemic. The best activity director left 1-1/2 years ago with the help of the jealous aides. The residents loved her, and she had so much to offer. The residents would welcome her return. Food is kosher, so it’s bland. The facility looks nice and clean. I feel residents deserve more for the price they pay every month. I visit frequently as I’m disappointed in the staff.

Menorah Park was very nice, clean, and well done. It's larger than the other place I saw. It's self-pay, and they only take Medicaid if you're in their nursing facility; they don't take it for assisted living. The rooms were very lovely and very nice; the staff was gracious and also nice. They do a very nice job there, too. I also saw the main dining area. The rooms were a little larger than the other place, but you had to share a bathroom, which was a downer for me. They're also more affordable, and they had a toilet and a sink, but you had to share a shower, which was in the main hallway, and that's what I didn't like. They had an activities manager, and they had a staff person to do the activities, which included a little bit of crafts, exercise, board games, movies, and stuff like that. Their other rooms were also self-contained with showers, but not the most affordable ones that I inquired about.

My aunt was in this facility for about 3 years. The staff starting with the directors were friendly, helpful and available. The apartment she had was small but had everything she needed. Getting repairs was never a problem. The repair people were friendly and courteous. The waitstaff were helpful and caring. Everyone always had a smile and a greeting for you. I couldn't have asked for a better place for her.

The Oaks is smaller; my mother in law is used to a small facility, and she liked it better than a big place. It’s an independent facility with a capability of adding extra services as they become necessary; you don’t have to move, and that’s another thing we liked. She’s been there for a month, we haven’t seen any issues, and she’s really happy there.

My mom is in the Oaks. The place is fine. It is part of a Jewish community, and the food is kosher, which is an issue for some people because kosher food is not as tasty as regular food, but the community itself is very nice. Her room is very nice. It is well equipped with safety bars, space for a walker, and things like that. It fits her needs very well. In the independent living, the staff is really nice. They didn't do much care; you have to get services from other places. It is probably one of the best in Syracuse. They have lots of activities. My mom is legally blind, so she cannot do many of the activities, but they have musical things and entertainment in the evening. They have lots of things to do.

We chose The Oaks at Menorah Park because it is a small community. It has only 56 apartments and the management is very accommodating; the dining room is accommodating; everything is wonderful, really. The service workers are very attentive to the needs of the people who live here. The environment is lovely. Its huge atrium is very spacious and is kept very clean. There is always somebody at the desk 24 hours a day. It is like living in a fine hotel. We have a two-bedroom apartment, which is small. There are a lot of windows in the living room and you can have whatever you want; if you want carpeting you get carpeting, if you want wood floors you get wood floors, and they paint it with your colors. You do pay for those things and I think the charge is $25/hour for labor and the laborers are people who do all the work in the facility. The staff seemed very, very happy. They are very friendly and very ready to do what you need. They have a walking club and a discussion club. They also have chair yoga, and they take people to lunch or dinner and to their doctors. Round trip is only $5. They have movies in the evening and they bring in concerts once a month, but I am fairly new, so those are only some of the things that I am aware of right now. The food is okay; sometimes it is wonderful and sometimes so-so. They try very hard not to be institutional and it is very, very acceptable.

My brother is all set in Menorah Park. This facility fulfills all the needs that he has. They pretty much provide the usual amenities of any retirement communities like two or three meals a day, clean the place on Fridays, and give medicine in the morning and night. However, Menorah Park has a little bit more than the basics.

Menorah Park has a very quiet entrance and is set back from the road a bit with a long winding driveway. The grounds are very pretty and the building looks a very well constructed from the outside. Inside it was very nicely decorated with plants, tables and benches to rest on. There is this really big open space for a community area with lots of tables and games stacked neatly for the residents to enjoy. The apartment that Lucielle's friends were living in are bigger than my own 1 bedroom apartment in Albany! There were handrails everywhere which really gave me peace of mind because Lucielle doesn't have the best balance since her stroke. She could walk with her cane on one side and hold onto the railing with the other. The staff was pleasant and stayed out of the way when Lucielle was visiting, except to interrupt once (while we were there) to make sure that mediciene was taken. One attendant's perfume was a little strong but it didn't seem to bother anyone else. The nurses and aides seemed respectful of the residents who lived there and didn't have the barely hidden contempt that I have seen in hospitals. Stephen and I left Lucielle and her friends at the community room as they were all going to play Mahjong and cards while they visited. Stephen and I found a nice resturant locally to have some lunch. We also did some shopping and caught a movie, I forget what movie it was but it worked out perfectly as we were able to pick up Lucielle just before dinner time and head home. Stephen has taken her back to see her friends a couple of times since then but I was not able to go with him.

The atmosphere of Menorah Park was very nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful, very attentive to the need of the elderly. Every once in a while, the residents were visited by school children in the area from the local high schools and churches. The residents' faces would light up whenever visitors arrived. Food was given at a set time three times per day but residents were not required to eat together or at that time if they did not wish to; however, the option was available and many chose to dine together. The food is all made at the facility and tastes good. Games are provided for entertainment as is electronics and all things are available to all residents equally. Although the air is laced with sadness, the staff does their best to lift the spirits of their residents and talk to them as old friends, not as little children or wards to take care of. Special needs are paid attention to and the staff makes sure that each resident is getting enough food, activity, and social interaction to make their stay comfortable and enjoyable. Residents are never forced to do things they do not want to do. All in all, it is a lovely facility.
