We're looking at Orchard Grove Residences for my friend. My mom lived there for eight years before she passed away two years ago. They treated her wonderfully. The staff doesn't treat them like a job or a patient, this one girl would come over and hug my mom and kiss her on the cheek. They treat them like family. They had a lady that came in and they would sing along and they did bingo and they had other little things that they could do. And every week they either went to Walmart or the next week they would go to Wegmans. They would take them. They had a patio outback. I took her to one of those big swings, and they could sit out there on the swing and have a cover over it if the sun was too warm. Sometimes in the summer, they would have their lunch out there if they wanted. They had a grill out there where they would grill hotdogs and hamburgers for them. I told my kids, if I have to be someplace, put me there. They're all single rooms and each room has its own bathroom. And the other thing that I liked was when they do laundry, it's not community laundry. When it was my mom's shower day, they did her laundry while she was taking her shower. It was just her clothes. Some of the ladies had the choice, they could do their own laundry, or the staff could do it, and a couple of the ladies chose to do their own laundry.

We went to look at Orchard Grove Residences. The rooms were much smaller, and there were no cooking facilities. There was an unpleasant odor. The staff was average. She was in a rush. It didn't seem as friendly. It didn't seem as open. Their living area was smaller since it was only for a group of either five to six rooms. They had a fireplace which made it warm and more friendly. But when we were there, no one was there sitting in it. Everything seems small maybe it's because people have a lot more stuff. The rooms we visited were just full. Other than that, if people prefer smaller groups, it would be a better place to be. But if you're quite social, the other place that we visited was better.

I moved my husband to Orchard Grove Residences, and it fits my needs. He seems to be well-taken/cared for. The staff is very helpful, they're friendly, and caring. My husband says the food is good. It's only one level, and everybody comes to the main dining room, which is nice. It is very clean and very well kept. The area that it's in is beautiful, they can get out and walk on the sidewalk, or the front porch.

We chose Orchard Grove Residences for my mother because it looked very nice and comfortable, and everybody seemed very friendly. We thought she'd be happy there. She said the food is always good. She has done exercise classes, and they have a TV area where the residents sit around if they don't want to stay in their room. She has a small apartment, but it's big enough that she can have some of her own furniture in there besides what was already in there. They provide a bed, a dresser, a wardrobe for her clothing, a rocking chair, a little table, and a TV. We brought in her own lounge chair. It's a really nice apartment, and the bathroom is quite large.

I had the opportunity to visit this lovely community over the holidays to see a long time family friend. Her room has a huge window and a bathroom twice as big as the one I have at home! It was the first community I have ever visited in this area that was set up in this way, I believe they call it "small house" but truly it is set up like a nice new home with room mates. So much more comfortable than an apartment style building in my opinion. The staff was very accommodating in welcoming us to dinner even though we just dropped in on them.
